So over the 4 years I've been playing GW, something wrong has always occurred to my computer. Currently, I have absolutely no control over my mouse.
Normally, I go through months where I will play, and months where I won't. During the months I do play something, like this mouse problem, always happens to this computer.
I was wondering if you guys might have any idea on what's wrong, and if you guys could give me a hand
The alternative is I'm no longer allowed to play until I can prove everything is fixed, or GW isn't the problem

Is the mouse problem the only thing happening? Explain any other happenings..
But I don't see how Guild Wars could cause your mouse to wonk out like that, sometimes when you have too much stuff plugged into your usb ports it can cause things like that to happen. Is your mouse wireless or wired? is it PS/2 or USB?
Try unplugging some stuff or trying a different mouse in the mean time and see what happens then.

I had a similar issue with an infrared mouse where the cursor would just jump all over the screen and more times than not it would land on the logout button. It seemed to happen more frequently when the screen was full of flashes or different lighting effects. I can't remember how many times I logged out due to an inadvertent click. The problem was solved very easy by just getting a new mouse.

Sounds to me like you have a background task taking up a lot of cycles. I know that if I don't pause [email protected] before I log in, I get an issue to what rkubik describes. But at this point there is not enough information to say anything for sure.

Right, I'm using an infrared mouse. It's plugged into my computer via PS/2 port, and whether I'm playing the game or not, my mouse takes random spasms and the cursor flies around the screen and I have absolutely no control over it

What exact mouse are you using. Computer operating system, cpu, video card, ram? Are you running anit virus and other programs in the background that could be hogging up resources/ram? Is your cpu/gpu covered with too much dust?
Most likely it's cuz you don't have enough ram to run multiple tasks or are running single core cpu or both. On rare occasions there has been problems when cpu was over heating, so check that. But most likely it's what you have running in the background or the mouse itself doesn't like playing nice with your set up. Mouses go on sale all the time and you can a cheap usb2 loigtech mouse for under $20 if you search around.

On topic - believe it or not - try a new mousepad. Something plain, like a cloth covered pad with a solid colour. Also, clean the lens on the bottom of the mouse.
Naturally, of course, the more you use something, the more likely it is to fail. You would probably spend more hours using the computer than your dad does, so it's more apt to break while you're using it.
On the other hand, make sure you don't have the graphics in GW cranked up to where it causes overheating.

I'm using an HP mouse, no idea what model, sorry about that.
The cursor goes crazy whether I'm playing GW or not. I've uninstalled the game, and so far things are fine.
I noticed though, before removing GW, that if I used my mouse on the plain table without the mouse pad things would work fine. No idea if that's relevant or not
I've yet to go through background programs.

But I suspect that it is most likely the pad, though I would also be suspicious of the basic infrared mouse plugged into the PS/2...I would suggest trying another mouse plugged into a USB port to see if the problem shows up at all...it could be your PS/2 port is having issues.

By goes crazy I mean, that at random times it'll go from wherever the cursor is to an edge of the screen. If I try to bring it to where I want to click, it'll fly to another location on the screen. It's completely random so I have no way of controlling it.

Definitely check with another mouse if you have a spare lying around too, USB preferably since it would help to determine if there's an issue with your PS2 port.

A brief history - in the old days, when mice had balls, there often wasn't enough friction on a table top to make the ball turn smoothly. So, they came up with the idea of using a small "pad" with better traction to use under the mouse. Nowadays, laser mice don't need "traction", so a mousepad is actually superfluous in most cases.
So, if the table top works, just use it. There is no "requirement" for a mousepad, except to reserve a space for the mouse to sit on (if your desk gets cluttered.)

I've seen this exact thing happen in 3 different scenarios:
1 - your mouse is dying and need to be replaced.
2 - you have a mouse driver that is either corrupted or is for a previous version of windows (ie XP driver that doesn't work correctly on Win7)
3 - your mousepad is shot and needs to be replaced.
either way I think you need to replace either the mouse or the pad and not GW.
you could just not use a mousepad, but if you have a mouse with higher DPI that could cause it to be waay faster than you want.... experimenatation is your friend my friend....

Lol I love the parents that blame games on damaging various computer hardware, espically the hardware pieces like mice that don't have heavy load CPUs inside of them LOL.
Anyways I used to have this same problem back in oh...2000-2001 when it turned out the optical mouse I was using was trash. The pointer would just move by itself. Sometimes I'd open up mspaint and hold down thr left click to see if some weird ass dude from another dimension was trying to write me a message.

Yeah I had a similar problem on a cheap Logitech mouse I used to have. The cursor would occasionally move gradually across the screen on it's own until I stopped it.
Upgraded to an MX518 and haven't had the problem since, so that pretty much points the finger at cheaper opticals.
