Imroving the /report : having to be on the same map isn't good
Eowin Of Rohan
Hi
As you know, you can't /report anyone who isn't on the same map. Then, you can't report
- a guy who's pm-ing you either insults or real money gold sale offers
- a guy who left a town 1 second after spaming account sale / real money gold sale ...
Of course, this limit is necessary to prevent everyone from being able to report anyone anywhere jus because they don't like them.
Here could be the new rule:
- you can report anyone on your map
- you can report anyone who wrote in a chanel you were able to read during the last 5 minutes (the guy who came, spamed, left ; or the guy who found you in party search and pm-ed gold sale offer, but is in another district, for example)

or you could do this:

and people leaving pvp matches is not a reportable offense anyways, that is what the dishonor system is in place for.

Don't they already get dishonor points for leaving a match prematurely? Are you insisting they doubly punish them? If that's the case, GW1 PvP will be dead far before GW2 ever arrives!
Hope that's part of your plan: You vs. NoP.

Anyways,
/Not Signed, there is a reason there is an HTML web based support website.

1) pvp leaving was an example, the idea could work without this example. Just remove the 3rd point in my post.
2) I know ther's a website.
But I can't screen + write down the exact time + make a full post to explain what happened, where, when and so on... I did this twice, It's realy harder than just typing "/report" and check "selling gold for real money".
I posted here after I heard people in my guild having the same problem.
Also, I agree with you about pvp, there is already the dishonor system , forgot about this.
I'll remove this from my 1st post.

while this would be a great idea for RMT and things like that i can see the system getting really clogged up if everyone types /report in like kama against a gold seller.
so in theory this is really great but you have to remember that there is a limit to the system and just that much pressure would probably just clog the system(also the gold sellers could get on like 9 accounts and spam /report to clog up the system so when their time comes it takes longer for them to be banned etc.)

It would be interesting to have when people map out and scam on runs, but most pm fights are usually provoked and anet doesn't have the time to deal with 1 on 1 bickering.

You could always submit a report here.

I know people are saying 'there is web based support', but to be honest I think this should be implemented. I am not exactly going to drop everything I am doing (could be in the middle of something when it happens) to go to a website to do it when I can just /report, especially when it can lead to negative impacts (you subsequently get reported for leeching when you are reporting someone else), and if you do wait, the info of the person can be lost when you go to scroll up.

Reporting a person for Inappropriate Character Name works if you get a lotttttttt of reports against them. I was with my old core in tombz on a Saturday night when about 100 people or so (over the course of an hour) reported him for his name and he got suspended by the automated system when we were holding halls.
Reporting for botting, in the past, used to yield next to no results. But that changed (or so I believe) when Arena.Net recently stepped in to officially start handling all the bots as a higher priority in their list of things to do (but for all I know this could have been said just to put people "at ease of mind").
Screenshots. That and, chat logs are saved. For example, Support can go as far back as 3 months (just an example. for all we know chat logs can be saved as far back as a year or more) to see an infraction as long as you have the time and date of when said verbal abuse occurred.

the report system is terrible
anything to make it easier or strengthen it will make things worse

/report does next to nothing apart from the "leeching" option. Support/Regina/Gaile has even said so themselves that reporting a player in-game is not the best method. /report for verbal abuse, scamming and spamming were implemented to put the kids "at ease of mind". To which part, I am not joking.

As for the screenshots, I will go back to my initial reply: you are in the middle of doing something (tombs is a good example, or RA or something which keeps your focus) and the chat box is running quick with other stuff, where do you have the time to take these screenshots? You may get their name and tidbits of what they are saying, but even then you are concentrating on other things anyway

Open the chat window, screen shot the offensive text, email to support. Give them the name of the person in the text that you are reporting. No further info is needed. I have done this and watched the gold sellers "log off" in minutes, never to log back on. Takes no more than 5 minutes. Too much time and effort? Live with the offending communications.

I agree with this. I'm tired of people pming me to talk smack after a match, or kiddies spamming up ToB/RA with racist/misogynistic/sexual talk. Instead of having to fill out a ticket and writing down the exact timing and district of the offense, if there's a way to /report it immediately ingame, why not? It would be easier for support to check the logs too.
For those who say the ingame /report doesn't work, well once I reported a guy in JQ for spamming vulgarities. The next day, I saw him again on his other account. He said that his main had been banned for swearing. so yes, in my experience /report works for verbal abuse and inappropriate name at least.
I'm all for more effective ways to keep the game clean, so /signed.

Wow, that would really suck. Has anyone been banned for using a single swear word? I remember seeing a thread somewhere where support said that a single word was not sufficient grounds for a ban.
I don't think name reports are auto though. Those words are already filtered at the creation screen.
