Sorrows Furnace
Asrai
I spent the evening in Sorrows Furnace and cleared the place... except for the main furnace... I found 4 entrances into it, but all were blocked and I couldn't figure out how to open the gates... no gear boxes for those. How do you get in ? And, I thought the drops would be better. I got nothing but junk. Was hoping for a gold bow, but never saw anything even close, not even a purple anything. Is that typical when clearing SF ?
Chronos the Defiler
Typically you want to do the quests for Sorrow's Furnace, there are several you need to do in order to fight the final boss deal. The NPCs are scattered through Grenth's Footprint, and the final quest after they are all done is taken right outside Warcamp

Oh, and the greens are worthless for the most part.
Divine Ashes
I think Rago's staff is still worth a bit...also galigords stone staff and dragos flatbow...but not too sure lol.
But yeah, get them quests. You can only open up the furnace and the final, unique boss of the area by doing the other quests and unlocking the Final Assault quest.

Eragon Zarroc
You must complete the quest To Sorrow's Furnace 1st, which is a series of mini quests in which you help out multiple people. It is then followed by The Final Assault in which you will do The Forge Heart, allowing you to gain access to the main furnace.

I still have fun in Sorrow's from time to time. As Eragon (and others) said, you have to do a series of quests which involve entering Sorrow's Furnace a total of five times. You don't have to do them all in one sitting, fortunately. Only the final quest chain (Final Assault) allows you past those locked gates, thanks to some judicious powder kegging.
I completed the series once, just because, then again so that I could keep the Final Assault active and never hand it in. That way I always have access to the heart.
What I do is go down there with my Rit SoS spammer and the ubiquitous three necros. Kill all the big groups with the heroes then flag them off-radar and spirit-spam the bosses for greens. Even though most of the greens are pretty much worthless, you still can't beat a lovely Drago's
Oh, one more thing. When you do the Kilroy Stonekin quest (awesome and easy) - don't open the reward chests as you go along as the drops from these are shared with the heroes/henchmen. Finish off the final boss, collect the reward then flag the party away as far as possible. Now retrace your steps and open all those keyless chests (3 or 4 of them - I forget.) Your reward will only be purples, but lots of them and a chance of a very rare crystalline - and formerly rare dwarven axes.
Enjoy!

That's funny... I'm on my second round of Prophecies, and I figured out early that henchies were getting shares of gold that dropped, but I had no idea they got weapon drops as well. Guess you don't 'farm' with henchmen
Thanks for the information and advise

The Final Assault is a repeatable quest. You can turn it in safely and re-get it from the dwarven NPC that is directly outside of Deldrimor War Camp. You don't need to do any of the "To Sorrows Furnace" quests again.

Henchmen get the same drops a human player would - in other words, you would get the same drops whether you have H&H or humans with you.

There are also quests obtained inside Sorrow's Furnace without doing the "To Sorrow's" quests.

Seems like the majority of the quest you just do for fun... exp isn't a compelling reason when you're 20, sure is a lot of it though. Did Kilroy Stonekin. Had to laugh, reminded me of the old wow days and Leeroy Jenkins

Aw poop - really? All this time I've been running around with that quest
tijo
Yeah it's repeatable any number of time. To me Sorrow's Furnace brings back good memories from the time of oro and FA farming before the gear nerf and with B/P teams afterwads. (that 5 man farm was actually fun).

Yeah I also have fond memories of Sorrows. First "Elite" area I ever farmed.
