KSMod 3.2 - High Definition Textures, Multi-Client Virtualization, UT99 Sound Effects

I keep getting a "Unable to enable High_Def_Composite". Like maxxfury, I'm running winXP Pro. Any ideas why I'd be having an issue with this?

I can't use the Multi-loader. For some reason it's not working. How can I enable the Virtualization?

I have no idea why it wouldn't work.

At some point in time, I installed a browser toolbar called ForceField (came with my zone alarm security suite according the their website). That's what caused the problem. I'm still trying to find out where to uninstall it. Just killing the process for now.
Weird thing is...what would the toolbar have to do with ksmod??? I'm still trying to figure that one out.

Oh boy I am happy!. This was what kept the high rez and the ut sounds from loading. Forcefield came with the Zonealarm Tool bar. Weird that kept KSmod from working properly. You ahould be able to use the remove/add programs from the control panel to get rid of the tool bar. It should be separate from any other Zonealarm stuff.

Thanks, I updated the OP to reflect the security software that is incompatible with KSMod.

Dunno if this bit of info is relevant at all to KSMod, but here goes:
If you installed a game in the default Program Files folder and want to mod it without Windows (Vista/7) getting all angry on you, do the following steps.
- Locate the installation folder (eg. Guild Wars) within Program Files or Program Files (x86);
- Right click it, select "Properties";
- Go to the "Security" tab;
- Click "Edit...";
- Click "Add";
- Enter your Windows username in the provided field and click "Check Names";
- Click "OK";
- You're back to the Security window, with your newly added user selected. On the bottom half, there is a list of permissions. Tick the box for "Full control" (under "Allow" ofc
);
- Click "OK" all the way.

Tested with Comodo Firewall Pro v. 3.0 in WinXP Home SP3 (32 bit).

Anyway to turn of the sound effects?
BuD
In the Settings.ini make sure the line reads
UT99_Sound_FX=0
0 = disabled
1 = enabled
UT99_Sound_FX=0
0 = disabled
1 = enabled

Don't know if this is anything you can fix, but a little oddity I found.
Seems virtualization locks changes from happening to the .dat, which makes sense if you want to run an unlimited number of copies from that. However if you have a freshly -imaged .dat file, a lot of the inventory icons will be somehow compressed or in need of some other conversion/manipulation. If you start KSMod virtualized and check out some icons you haven't seen before, minimize the screen and then maximize again, the item icons will be gone. Need to really watch this if you plan on doing any trading, seems to affect just about all (new to you) minis for example. |
My install dir is e:\Guild Wars\, so it's not a weird name thing, and my e drive is a separate partition with nothing on it but GW.

Thanks guys, I'll look into this bug at some point. I think I might know what the problem is.

I'd like to add that random stuff in my inventory and storage (which I obviously HAVE seen before) is also coming up invisible upon game launch, such as my Igneous stones in Pre-searing, various minipets (new ones I acquired and a few old ones), and some stackable items, some non-stackable, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. I deleted and rebuilt my dat with -image the other night, to no avail. All items appear normally when directly running gw.exe. The quoted post above is the only reference to the problem I've found.

I disabled virtualization and can now see the icon. In the meantime I'll stick to running a second instance under sandboxie (which uses up a few extra gigs of disk space, so not the ideal way of doing things).
OS is Win7 x64.

I've been running this for a bout a week now and the virtualization feature is great. The problem though, is that the GW launcher fails whenever I try to download the high def textures using the -image switch. The download will begin but will never get past the 10% mark before the error occurs and I'm presented with the GW bug report form.
Just wondering if anyone else has had trouble downloading these textures and, if so, if they were able to get around it.
Thanks.

You probably shouldn't launch KSMod with the -image switch. Just make a shortcut of gw.exe to do that.

Recently grabbed 3.2 and found that it had TR/Spy.7680.89 inside the ksmod.exe. Just wondering whether it's one that slipped through or just merely code that looks malicious, which would account for the reasoning behind disabling security software. I use Avira which is ok, but does the job.

Yea, definitely ran into this same issue with virtualization enabled. Seems to get worse the longer the game runs. Will have to disable that for now, but it does help performance on my little Acer Ferarri One, so I would greatly appreciate a fix for this.

I've seen this as well. My guess is that some inv images need to be "decompressed" or otherwise altered in the GW dat, the decompression is done once, flagged in memory as done, and the results attempted to save to dat. Virtualization locks the dat and prevents some of these things from getting done. But since the game memory already thinks the image is decompressed, it checks the dat file and finds nothing.

Thank you Brett for making this.
I thought I'd take the plunge and install KSmod (I really hope anet don't ban for using it
), and in it went as smooth as glass.
Booted up, no missing gfx, only had to restart GW as I thought the sound mods were on as default, which they weren't, took seconds to change.
Had a nosey around, everyone looking very shiny and hi-def, went into RA as a healer Rit, and I must say the UT sounds are great to keep track on how your team is doing when you're looking back and fourth at red bars.
Am I right in thinking it counts kills made by your party, not just by yourself?
I think the option for hi-def gfx for all should come built-in the game.
Again thanks for a great addition to GW.

Does Ksmod make skill 8 look like skill 10? (When using no texmod at all but ksmod, the skillbar has numbers, 1-8. But after 7, instead of 8, it says 10. XD)

Hi,
after the last update from Avast I get a Waringmesage. If i want to start Guild Wars with the ksmod.exe (3.2) Avast blocked the *.exe and put it in to the container.
Here is the mesage:
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
And here the results from a scanning with www.virustotal.de

what command line do we put switches in? (eg -bmp). Target has no effect, and start in rejects them... T.T

False Positive with Norton Internet Security 2010, you need to disable auto-protect then add the guild wars folder into an exceptions list or just allow that certain "adware" which is kinda risky.
Some textures are buggy, sometimes random items will not show. I found this true with the War in Kryta items like medals and such. Works fine without KSMod, so maybe a collision somewhere?

The missing textures are from the virtualisation option i believe... i had to set it to 0 and restart gw, and it streamed all the textures i was missing....
then re enabled it to multi boot.
then re enabled it to multi boot.

Is it possible to use this with Texmod?

Okay, could someone clarify what "Make sure to use the -image command line option to download all the High Definition Textures" means?
Does it mean that I'm supposed to put it in the settings.ini just after the "Command_Line="-part? Or does it mean something else?
Cause I tried this and didn't notice any difference. :/
I also read some post in this thread, a guy says he "reinstalled GW with -image"..?! What does he mean by that? Do I have to reinstall too?

Although, when I did that it only shows the update window for like a second, saying "Connecting to ArenaNet", then as soon as it comes to "Loading" it closes.
Does that mean I already have all the updates? Who knows, with my bad memory I might have done this sometime before and forgotten about it..
My gw.dat is "3,67 GB (3RED ENGINE GO950RED ENGINE GO370RED ENGINE GO816 byte)" according to windows, shouldn't it be bigger with all updates? :/
EDIT: What the... it's supposed to say (3 950 370 816 byte) above, though I just copied and pasted before... :S
