Hey guys...I finally had to give up on google. I just dont know exactly it is im looking for.
At work, we use citrix. We connect to a server, run the window in full screen, and voilla! a fully functional connection to a remote windows computer.
I have an older slow laptop, and I want to run visual studio/eclipse on it but I switch back and forth between my laptop and desktop quite a bit. I would like to "log in" to my windows 7 computer and access it fully from my laptop in a similar way that a citrix connection works.
Is it possible to log into my desktop remotely and use its software and whatnot without affecting my desktops current log on? Not super important, but it would be nice.
If the best solution will be a remote desktop program, what protocol would you recommend? I am on a wireless G LAN, and wont be connection outside the LAN.
Thanks!

Maybe you've already tried this but doesn't Windows ship with Remote Desktop Connection or something like that? Have you tried using that? Works for me or maybe I don't understand what the problem is.
You might have to use VPN depending on how your network works.

I use RealVNC, works great.

Ok. I hadn't used any much before, but anytime I used/ saw them being used, it was mostly "tech support" between computers, and annoyingly laggy. But LAN should fix that.
I guess what I am mostly looking for is something that lets me use my desktop remotely that wouldn't interfere with whoever was using the desktop. Sorta a background process.
Update:
I have only used things like "LogMeIn" or other tech support services..."Shadowing" the user, I suppose. I didnt realize that RDP let me log into a seperate user without my computer showing the activity. Very cool.
Now when I am done, i can just logoff and reconnect my desktop to my user.
Its a tad laggy over the lan, but I still havn't figured out if thats my Ubuntu laptop or its the connection. But I think this works.
Thanks for the input.
