"Guild Wars 2 Arena"
jazilla
My idea is to have an arena that is based on the news that Guild Wars 2 will
NOT have a dedicated healing class(check the guildwars 2 page I am not
gonna site it).
Every class in Guild Wars 2 has a dedicated "healing slot". This means that
everyone does damage/mitigates dmg./ and helps to heal other party
members in GW2 without there being someone in the battle that takes care of
the party. I was thinking this would be perfect for Guild Wars 1 as well if we
had an arena dedicated to it.
Here is my list of reasons FOR having this style of arena:
1.) This arena would tie-in greatly with the Guild Wars Beyond stuff that
ArenaNet is rolling out to help tie-in Guild Wars 1 with Guild Wars 2. What
better way to be able to throw some Guild Wars 2 flavor into Guild Wars 1's
PvP to compliment the PvE?
2.) It will create combat similar to what we will be seeing in Guild Wars 2.
3.) All classes could still participate because they already all have access to
damage and monks don't have to heal in a format such as this. Also, the
Official wiki has a statement that Smiting Prayers is going to get an update of
its own in the future.
4.) This would offer a PvP format for monks who don't want to play as healer.
5.) Arenanet could do a 4v4 version of this. It may just be me, but I see this
as way more fun than sealed deck.
ArenaNet would have to work out the kinks with Prot/DF/Healing Prayers and
what could be taken in, but I would let them work that out. They know what
would make sense.
I guess an issue that I could think of is that many people would go monk or
rit secondary for their one healing skill, but there are other options in other
Primaries.
I just think it would have a nice balance and matches would be quicker. I was thinking it should also be random teams of 4, but I am not opposed to built teams in order to replace what was lost in TA.
Any thoughts?

fricker
GW2 beta sounds better, I'd ask for that instead.
jazilla
thanks for the (sarcasm here) invaluable input fricker. way to contribute in a completely useless way.

Sounds fun to me.

good idea.. would be better then that codex crap they have now <3

All monks should get pre-nerf ursan due to the lack of our usefulness /signed.

That's probably one of the worst ideas I've ever heard. GW is balanced around monks. Monks don't just push redbars up, they also remove conditions, hexes, and help prevent some KDs and interrupts. Playing as a warrior or some other frontliner would be horrible, as you would get permanently snared, blinded, or hexed with things like faint or empathy. You could bring hex and condition removal, but that completely limits what you are able to do with your build and it would be costly on your energy. On the other hand, if you're a warrior and you face a team without all these counters, he could completely steamroll any caster. This type of arena more of a crapshoot than what the current RA is.
1) This has nothing to do with Guild Wars Beyond, which purpose is to help link storylines from GW1 to GW2.
2) This would be a horrible example of GW2 combat, as GW2 skills and over combat will need a complete rebalance compared to GW1.
3) Um... k
4) People play monk, because they enjoy it.
5) There would be no way to possible balance this format.

@Sniper22: Empathic Removal would see use for sure in this format, and why not? It would also be a different style of game play for sure. I also said that the gameplay would be faster. The matches would end sooner. I understand your opinion and you make some valid points, but you also offer no solutions. in response to what you said about monk: Monks get FLAMED in RA for using Smiting. People rage because of it and it's RA! RA is the bottom feeder version of pvp in GW. Lots of monks would like a break from the heals all the time, myself included. This would give them that format in a straight match sort of way that isn't factions related.
your response to my #5 about balance: you think that there is balance mow? Where? I really think this format sounds really fun.

Of course I don't offer any solutions, because I am not supporting this arena, therefore, I'm showing you my argument.
Yes, smiting is a pretty bad attribute line with a few exceptions. People won't bring smiting to this arena either because it's uses are very limited. If you want a break from healing on your monk, try another profession. Bringing smiting prayers on a monk is like trying to bring traps on a ranger.
Also you have to define what your definition of "balance" means. IMO the game is actually in a decent state of balance. Yes, there are definitely underused attribute lines/professions (dervish), but to me that doesn't make the game unbalanced.
I'm also not sure how much faster matches can get. A lot of RA matches end in 2-5 minutes. I don't think a complete zergfest is what we want out of pvp or gw2.

@Sniper22: My comments were aimed at the upcoming Smiting skill update that is on wiki. It's in my OP.
Shayne Hawke
GW does not have a GW2 mindset of balance. Do not want.
Ugh
Sounds kind of like costume brawl, but with more options and less balance.
It would be fun if they could balance it well.

Sounds fun, but I'd rather just wait till GW2 tbh. But hey, I wouldn't be opposed of Anet adding this. It's better then broken Codex that died faster then TA.

Hm... make is an event arena in which we can enter with pre-made characters (A norn, and asura, a human, a charr) and I may think about it.

Every prof in GW has a role. The monk facilitates the damage output of his team. He has a very important role. And you ask for an arena where his role is forbidden?
