They both have the same armor rating, it mostly depends on personal preference on which one you like more. Obsidian is going to be more expensive, and material is based on which profession you want it for.

Thanks, but which is considered the best? Like among players? I know they are equal in stats, but when I get an elite armor set I want the one that is considered the best among other players.
EDIT: Ah, never mind. I checked how much obsidian armor would cost andI think I'll pass ![]() |

Ugh. This is why I hate it when there's one super elite thing in a game; it breeds conformity.
You forgot rangers. Is their Obsidian too mediocre to fall in either extreme or did you just neglect them because you're from Anet? ![]() I agree with your conclusion, though I'd put female eles in 'terrible' and male paras in 'terrible.' And I'd put both ranger versions in 'good' under the condition that female rangers wear whatever skirt that is often mixed with it instead of the actual Obsidian pants. |

Like they said, get what you like best.
Obby armor dyed black was cool the first million times someone showed up in it. Spend those ectos on fun stuff, title items, that rare mini you have wanted, etc etc. The skins on weapons and armors are great when you are applying your own personal tastes and looks. I dye my armor anything I want. I experiment. I don't have one set of black armor, only because I wanted to look different. Enjoyment of the game should be your goal. That feeling of "I have the most expensive armor dyed all black and I look freaking awesome" only applies if...well, you think you look freaking awesome. ![]() |

You seem to think there's some fundamental difference between doing something to be different and doing something to be mainstream. They are both based on your opinion of popular trends. If you had said "I don't have one set of black armor because I don't like black armor", you could have avoided hypocrisy.
It's fine to argue whether you prefer to fit in or stand out, or whether there is some problem with popular culture that you reasonably believe should be different, but to treat fitting in as somehow morally cheaper than standing out is simply incorrect. How did you calculate the mass of obsidian armor's hands and body? Is there a hidden (or undiscovered-by-me) database of densities? If you assumed some arbitrary uniform density, why not make the simpler and equivalent comparison of volumes? What is your calculated hand:body mass ratio, and how does it deviate from the expected value? What range of values would be deemed acceptable? With these questions unanswered, and a general lack of evidence for any of your arguments, I fear your "/thread" may have been premature. |

Female Ele in terrible? Why? Ok, it looks like she wrapped a set of old tires around her, but dyed white it actually looks quite elegant tbh. Male Ele has not a single nice set of armor though, don't get why they made one in the first place.
Ranger looks crap though, /agree on that one. |
