Hi, i've done a basic search through to see if this question has been answered anywhere, it may be in some basic guide somewhere but i haven't been able to find it.
I am E/Me, but i can also play E/Mo, i got a quest that gave a monk spell as a reward... i acquired the quest, completed as E/Me (my normal build), then i turned the quest in... no skill reward. I understand that as the skill was a monk skill and as neither of my professions were monk i shouldn't have received the skill onto my skill bar.... however are you seriously telling me that this means that:
A) i can't switch my secondary profession back to monk and use that skill
B) that i haven't at the very least unlocked that skill for my account and can now use a regular tome to collect it...
C) now i have completed the quest and as it's not repeatable there is no way to get the skill I've just done a quest for... other than getting it from a skill trainer/faction unlock + tome/signet of capture...
sorry for the perhaps slightly irritated tone of the post... :P I'm just fairly annoyed I've potentially wasted a fair bit of time/effort.
Thanks
Skill Quest Rewards for non profession skills.

Which quest did you do? I think that there are some quests that unlock skills for your character, while other quests give rewards based on the professions that you currently are set to.

First one was http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/The_Last_Hog which to me just seems bizarre.
Second was http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Replacement_Healers which after what you've said makes sense at least

you should have gotten leech signet from the last hog as a reward instead of the monk skill.
since you were e/me when you turned them in, you will get those skills but have to buy or use a tome to get the monk ones

Skill quests reward skills based on your primary and secondary profession at the time of completion (accepting the reward) and only the skills of your primary and secondary profession at that time. Other skills the quest might offer are not learned or unlocked (meaning you can't just use a tome like jackinthe said, you will have to unlock it first in order to use a tome).
To answer your question: your statements A, B and C are indeed (and regretfully) correct.
The second quest you linked (The Replacement Healers) is a good example. If I go to Serenity Temple as E/W (that started in Prophecies), the quest is not available. If I change to E/Mo, it becomes available. I take the quest and change back to E/W. I complete the quest and accept the reward as E/W. All I get is 500xp. I don't learn or unlock the two monk skills. Had I changed back to E/Mo prior to accepting the reward, I would have learned the monk skills (and thus also unlocked them).

thanks very much for clearing that up... i only asked because it seems stupid and completely out of line with the general way guildwars seems to be layed out but oh well will just have to get some faction or pay out a few platinum
