See the title

We've had the storage panes for 15 months now.. Time for a half-price sale!

If people are still regularly buying them Anet wont drop the price.
If sales drop continually then they'll drop the price.

Also, I think this might be in the wrong Board... or the wrong forum altogether... but im not sure >.>
Well I saw almost the same thread 3 months ago in here, and figured it was time for a refresh

I'd think with the growing interest in GW2, sales for GW1 might start dipping by now! GW2 Public gameplay demo is in 3 weeks I think? woot (edit: err let me qualify that by saying 'displayed to the public'. Not publicly playable, heh)

I doubt you will see any drop in prices for store items. This is ArenaNets income resource while they work on GW2 after all.

Would be quite impossible for Anet to have been developing a game for 4 years now only to be funded by the odd campaign or Costume that's been sold for GW1...

NCSoft may foot the largest part of the bill, but if there is no income at all they might start questioning the whole F2P format.

This is correct and NCSoft doesn't do "Micro" payments, they do payments that are anything but micro. Other games 2-5 bucks for stuff related to their games, ncsoft? 10 bucks minimum. Screw ncsoft's "Micro" payments.

You're better off buying a second game from somewhere cheap and using the 4 character slots for storage mules

If they decide to sell them all 4 for 10$ they will get my money! Otherwise lol, the current price (40$+some tax that wasn't there before) is so absurd it's beyond my words.

They alrady stated it will be F2P. So they can question it all they want.

What it's time for is a half-price deal on the campaigns. I might upgrade my mule account if the online store prices weren't so preposterous.

I would not consider storage panes a waste of money if it was either cheaper for each pane or if you were to get two for the same price. Right now the better investment storage wise by a mile would be getting an extra character slot.

Speaking for myself but I'm sure others, I have a job, a very good technical job resulting from my degree at a very respected Californian university. I don't throw good money at bad deals, whether that's Napa Valley wine, supermarket food, or comp games / micro transactions.

When I can get a trilogy for $20 with 8 chars full of storage (and gameplay), it's silly to pay $10 for a few panes.

I have 3 comps at home so it's no issue muling across accts.

I have to agree. But how much more silly is paying $40 for those pitiful few panes?

I was just kidding

Yeah they are horribly overpriced and as a whole the storage system in GW is probably the worst in any game EVER. Just the fact that every single type of mob have a unique collectible drop is ridiculous.

Or even better, get a new copy of the game. For about $10, you can get 4 new character slots, if you dont mind the added inconvenience of transferring items to another account.

Everyone should just boycott buying panes and buy character slots at the same price but with potential for MORE inventory. Also, last time I checked you can play those new characters too. It always was a head scratcher for me that people would buy 20 slots at $10.

Everyone should just boycott buying from the online store period.

If you buy a Trilogy for $20, that's about $10 going into the retailer's pocket, $5 for packaging materials and transportation, and about $5 to Anet (estimations). If you buy anything from the online store, 100% of that money goes to Anet.

Why would you prefer your money going towards packaging and retailers to it going to the company that made the game you're playing and is currently developing the sequel?

If it's the same price there is absolutely no way i'm giving money to retailers over developers.

1. To send the message to Anet that their storage panes are miserably overpriced. This is the term popularized by the media called 'voting with your pocketbook'.

2. They aren't the same price, storage slot-per-storage slot (not remotely close).

I'd accept that argument for storage panes but you said "anything", that includes campaigns so my first point still stands.

OT: I'd buy storage panes if they had a reasonable discount on them, sure I could buy character slots or another account but it's far easier and more convenient to just have more storage slots. I don't need them that bad, which is why I haven't bought any at the current price, but i'd get them if they were cheaper.

The thing I find odd about the online store is that it costs ANet literally no money (or negligible anyway) to create storage panes and yet the price is extortionate, I imagine they'd make more money by lowering the price, I know i'd buy some at a lower price and I imagine there are a lot of people in the same mindset as me.

It sounds like you still live in California, in which case I'd call BS - you're already throwing good money into a bad deal (been there done that).

This proves a point - it's all in the eye of the beholder as to what is a good deal or bad deal.

Having a full set of bank tabs is much, much more convenient than having to be bothered to switch toons. I have the money to be that lazy. I don't see it as a bad deal (for me). If the price point was higher then at some point I would see it as a bad deal (for me). $20.00 for a dated online game that many people consider 'over' and having no future would probably be considered a 'bad deal' to quite a few people.

I consider RoM's storage system a 'bad deal'. In that game (which I also play and spend every now and then) you rent your extra storage space, not buy it.

Shared storage is a godsend. In almost every other game I play I have to mail items to/from alts to manage inventory. In GW having (and being able to expand) shared storage rocks. It minimizes having to switch toons to manage inventory. I only really have to switch for obscure items I have stored somewhere or when I actually want to play (gasp) a toon.

So maybe we can all just agree that the definition of "value" is a personal choice.

There are those of you who feel that the convenience of multiple panes is worth the increased cost per storage unit as opposed to switching items amongst accounts...and those who feel that lower cost per storage unit is a higher priority than the convenience of saving a few moments and a few clicks.

You're both right. Now, can we all just get along?

I was referring to the quote and living in California. The cost of living in California IS a bad deal. If you don't think so, well then welcome to my point about opinions and it being relative :-)

btw, I would point out that since you multi-box, it's a whole different deal than not as far as mules, storage, and switching toons is concerned. I enjoy logging into two accounts as well, and I admit that it is not a problem when dealing with the currently logged in toons on each account. I just can't be bothered to switch back and forth between mules when I can throw a little bit (relative, of course) of cash at the problem.

I can't say the same for my toons on RoM. I don't feel like subscribing to or renting storage. Someone else may feel it's worth it. I mean, people do pay 100-150 dollars a month on a full suite of cable tv channels that they probably don't watch most of.

I DO pay someone to change my oil though :-)

Let's boycott California.

The whole concept of boycotting over some silly storage panes is laughable.

Back to the OP's topic, maybe Anet will have another sale around the Holidays season, not sure if it will be on panes though.

As I have said in the past, until they find a way to give me my free panes, I will not buy any.

Many, many moons ago, I helped my friend get stuff on his account, using my NCSoft account, character slots, I believe. His account and 2 of my 4 are linked to same account. The other 2 are linked to another account(s), but nobody can find the account(s) linked to. And as far as I know, I only have 1 NCSoft account.

Give me my other 2 freebies, then we will discuss further purchases.
