I can assure you that this is not the case.
Haha. perhaps.

But yea... Could we possibly know the reason in particular for the move? Purely for curiosity reason(s), of course.

Ah well then :

Let us rejoice in this thread with new update - Thursday, August 5, 2010 :

-Updated the 2010 Automated Tournament Series Trophy in the Great Temple of Balthazar.
-Updated the Automated Tournament map rotation.

Exciting isn't it. Do you ever experience a moment of joy when you see new date on wiki's upper right corner. Then click on it and this pops out.

No worries. I posted the Network News info on my wiki page first (a couple hours ago) but I wanted to wait until it was live on the website before I posted it on Facebook, Twitter, and the forums, since the website is the official place for Network News updates. You just beat me on this forum. (If you were getting the news from Facebook, you were actually getting it from a community team member, too. ).

So...can we know the reason for the move? Or is it one of those secret, "we f'd up" kind of things that we're not allowed to know about?

Will it improve game stability and reduce lag? Or are we downsizing?

Legacy systems get moved offsite to make way for the newer systems, aka GW2.

So maybe we get computers built in the 21st Century to run this game. If we don't get <50 ping, = fail.

It’s probably like tossing out that 1950’s dinosaur of a refrigerator out the door, and bringing in the eco-green small LED light weight but same space severs to take it’s place. Metaphorically speaking of course; because like we all know technology jumps when a millisecond goes by. Hopefully some better connection rates do come out of this.

It would be funny if all the data for GW1 does get reset in the process though.

It's all a lie and they need time to properly set up the start of Ebonhawke. A lot of things need to be put in it's proper place.

conspiricy! i like that. And id say downsizing the servers. since they wont comment on it(legal issues or otherwise) id say its a bad thing. No one wants to tell the community "Hey were downsizing your game srry kkthxbai"

just my 2 cents.

I dont think Downsizing, up to 5 year, old servers is even possible nowadays. You have to think back to what the server technology was at around 5 or more years ago. If it takes up to 24 hours, then it sounds as if they are actually moving the physical servers and not just the data.

If Anet were to only move the data, then they could copy most of the stuff beforehand and only move the player database at the time of the change which wouldnt take much time at all (considering the speed that servercenter Backbone lines run at).

I wonder: Is there some kind of downgrade going on here? Given that GW1 rakes in negligible amounts of money and it's 5 years old now. It'd only be a logical thing to do given those types of [outstanding] circumstances & all.

Maybe they are preparing the GW1 server space for GW2, seeing as the game should be playable soon (Gamescon).

It's not like it's the same servers anymore, thoose machines are built to be upgraded on the go. Only remains of the original servers is probably the 19" racks and server houses.
