What about those of us that are in the camp of, "Updates will come when they do, just be honest about it and don't tell us it's every 2 months when it obviously isn't"? I honestly don't care about the actual updates. I have fun playing GW. When it gets stale I take a break for a few months. The thing that steams me is being told by the PR team that updates will come on such and such times and then they don't.
Morphy
You should know by now that they don't follow that 2 months bs anymore. Just stop mentioning it, it won't become any more real if you keep talking about it.
jazilla
@Morphy: Do you have a link that says they don't follow that anymore? If you don't then to me, ANET still thinks they are on that timeline and that is precisely the problem I have. I am just stating the problem I have with the system. Saying one thing and doing another is the "bs" you speak of. I can't be ticked off at that?

Gah. All he asks is for ANet to be honest. That's not too much, imho...

I changed my main page from Guru about 6 months ago, I check it about once every two-three days, sometimes post. I can't think of any reasons to play GW over League of Legends, Bad Company 2 or any other player vs player online game. Hell, I'm more excited about the new 2D Worms game coming out on Steam than about Guild Wars or the sequel.

I honestly just expect it at this point. I'm not upset. I'm not even really disappointed. I'm just....lethargic. They obviously don't care anymore, so why do we make a big deal out of it? Let this go. This is the new (or should I say old?) status quo. |

GW1 is the best MMO of all time!!

Update August 5th: Still playing this game just so I can keep complaining about it.
Karate Jesus
Did they fix the map rotation yet, or are they taking the weekend off?

Why do you need a link? Use common sense and look for yourself. They haven't kept to this promise whatsoever. Why would they suddenly start doing it? As I said in my previous post, it's not going to happen, stop QQing about it.

As much as Karate Jesus says he loves this game, he never seems to miss an opportunity to call Anet out on lack of content and/or promises they never kept. He's like a fan-troll; someone who keeps posting scandalous crap, and always focuses on that one thing. I don't think I have ever once seen him excited/appreciative of the free service we all get.
Hell, I can write a 5-part series on people like him, but I'm too lazy.

A lot of people don't realize that anet can't let GvG die if they want to maintain whatever credibility they have left. They created a test krewe for the sole purpose of feedback on potential updates and to try to spark life into the PvP community. Although all it's doing right now is slowing down the rate at which people leave competitive play, they can't just let their pride-and-joy PvP format die without making attempts to help it if they want to convince the hundreds, or possibly thousands, of ex-PvPers that GW2 is turning over a new leaf and making organized PvP more accessible while still remaining competitive.

Okay, so there were 56 teams that turned out last month.
448 players, is not considered competitive PvP in any game. That is barely larger than a decent sized LAN Party event for a FPS game.
Now estimate how many people actively PvE. My guess would be somewhere in the 6k-10k range. PvP had its day and I have participated in both formats. It is no longer worth consideration imho. They need to accept that and quit diddling about if they don't want to lose even more of their fan base that is currently playing to game.
One good thing though. I don't really know of a large amount of people that left the game on ill feelings towards GW the game. Some people left due to Anet's subpar handling of many things. I think that all of the players who have moved on will probably end up playing GW2. Pure speculation on my part. One thing is for certain, at least it isn't WoW.

Haha, but I do think it's cute how majoho seems to have labeled me his arch-nemesis.
And, hey, maybe it's helping. I made a thread on bots and several weeks later almost 4,000 were banned. I made a thread on the lack of CR communication and a week later they start posting here again.
I'm not taking credit for those things, but maybe I'm at least...pseudo-helping draw attention to things. And, honestly, I don't really see where I've complained about this update other than them messing up the map rotation, which I hope any sane person would think is a little fck'd up.

I'm going to innocently accept it as a compliment. Thanks!
However...I think this is becoming....off-topic at best. Although, it would be hard not to get off-topic, considering that nothing really happened....and we're trying to discuss the "nothing".

edit: adding on, I think it's much harder to keep a game competitive and balanced than it is to provide fun PvE, which is already relative to begin with.

Anet's made it clear they want to keep at least some competitive play going in this game, as Tearz1993 has put so well.
I think those that genuinely feel PvP getting updates seriously detracts from their own game are a very small number, and considering nearly everything seems to be done by the TK i doubt it even detracts much from the PvE work.

Let's be honest, it wasn't. The map rotation and trophy take probably 5 minutes to do - max. Assuming that any more time was given to it is just ridiculous.
And, to be perfectly honest again, a lot of PvP'ers are worried about competitive play in GW2 and with good reason. Anet has obviously learned that PvE players are where the money's at, and designed a new game with an 80 level cap and all kinds of creative PvE stuff, but we haven't heard one single word about PvP yet.
PvP isn't going to be a large focus of GW2, and the competitive players of GW1 know that. That is, of course, unless you consider brawling mini games as PvP.
RedDog91
It'll happen when it happens.
Until then, just be quiet and play (and no...playing and arguing on Riverside Inn does not count)

I meant updates generically, not specifically this map rotation. As this happens everytime anything is done with PvP.
Personally i'm more intrigued than worried, as it's clearly going to be a very different game to the current GW. Be interesting to see how things work out without the devoted heal class, but then arguably the monk in gw isn't a devoted heal class.

Like I said, they can't let GvG flat out die more than it already has if they want to retain most of the competitive population. It's credibility for gw2 rather than the current gw population's needs.
|
And I know many people that have moved on and feel similarly. Many people who moved on from GW are not going to be coming back because of situations such as the current one. Anet's past shenanigans with GW1 aren't going to suddenly disappear with GW2. Those in this thread defending Anet need to pull their heads out of the darkness and accept this despite their fanboi obsession.
Now I will go back to playing SC2 and waiting for D3!

Wow, THIS thread is exactly why CR is dead on GW1Guru.
shoyon456
So wait, when someone makes a legitimate concern (albeit rather rudely) Anet CR gets a pass on addressing it?
Then again, there isn't much more they can say other than "it would take too many resources from GW2," right?
