How do I get into PvP?

I've gone through random arenas and all that, and now I'm in HA. What do I do from here? I've faught a few matches with a more or less random team, but we tend to get slaughtered by some PvP guild. Getting a perty in itself is hard enough, because everyone askes for rank and as I'm new to this I don't even know how to figure out what my rank is and how I show it. Not that it is up to their standards.

So my question is this: How do I get started? So far it's been boring as Hell with all the waiting and stuff, I miss PvE already.

Pretty much get into a guild that let's you PvP with them you probably can't hope to get into a decent pug since most require a rank.
Rank go to Menu and Hero or Press H and select title(aka rank for pvp) however since you said you're new I assume you don't have the title in that so when they ask for rank you might as well say you don't have 1.
This is mostly for Hero's Ascent and GvG

Thanks for the answer, but in that case I won't bother. PvE suits me better it seams; exploration and stuff you know.

I hope the system gets improved in GW2, else I wont play competive PvP there either (WvW sounds fun though).

Unless you get some contacts, you can't get into HA. You can still do low-end GvG though, that's still pretty popular.

You can do Jade Quarry, Fort Aspenwood and Alliance Battles as long as you own Factions campaign. You can do Random Arena and Codex Arena, but you will need to unlock skills. Hero's Ascent and GuildvsGuild require teams that practice together to be successful.

Except for the Factions PvP, I stick to PvE. I find it much more fun. But if you decide you really want to do the high end stuff, find a guild. Check out Guild Connections for guilds that will take beginners.

It will be different though in GW2 surely. As it's a new game, there won't be a ranking for any of the players starting off - you'll need to build your reputation up from scratch again as it's a new game.

Therefore getting into any PvP match when the game is new should be a breeze. Nobody will have a rank yet!

So delve on in asap, learn the new GW2 mechanics, learn the skills, create awesome builds and start dominating PvP in GW2.

But then I want to jump into the PvE part of Guild Wars 2 as soon as I get it.

The change I wanted was perhaps different leages where rank 1 fights against ranks 1, rank 2 against rank 2 and so on. Within each rank discrimmination should be impossibe.

There is nothing like that. Ranks are individual in HA and by guild in GvG.

Here is a link to a guild that is recruiting for PvX. Their post says they do HA on a regular basis.
