Best H&H build for newbie?

I'm going to be playing only with henchmen and heroes (unless I can find others to join a party) so I want to make a character that will be "good" through out the game with H&H. I'm thinking I want my primary to be some kind of warrior (not sure what type of weapon is best for pve or what secondary I should choose) or a Necro of some sorts (I like summoning things I'm not necessarily looking for a class that's gonna dominate the whole game, but it's just my first character and I don't want to get stuck or put off from dying a lot or killing super slow. I'm starting on Prophecies btw.

Things I'm concerned about:
survivability
aoe damage and killing mobs
bosses
how well my character plays with Henchmen and Heroes

Any suggestions on good builds? Thanks.

Play whatever you want. It's definitely possible to beat everything with H/H even with professions that are deemed 'useless'/'crap'/etc. Don't be concerned about screwing yourself over with your profession. Also, when you get to a certain point in the game you'll be able to change your secondary as much as you want so don't stress about it. It is a bit harder to play with H/H when your character doesn't target foes often (the AI doesn't know if you want to attack or not) so if you're really concerned, avoid playing a Monk. Both Warrior and Necro are suitable for what you want to do.

Regarding builds/weapons/secondaries, read stickies in Campfire.

Spiritway is my favorite generic hero build.

It depends on your class and what you can access at the moment. Like Marty said though, You can practically beat the whole campaign with heroes and henchmen team. It's when you get to specifically harder places that you really need to worry about in H/H build organization. In any case, I'd suggest going to PvX wiki for some good ideas.

I've personly liked discordway, but recently ive fallen in love with spiritway. Either of them works . Oh and i wouldnt use "best" in the title because im sure someone will say "there is no best just use what you like blah blah -inscert random fact about their cat here-"

and im going to commit blasmphey and mod a yoda quote for this : do or do not there is no "best".

The best way to learn is to play with others. Join a friendly guild/alliance and play with experienced players. (But don't pug to begin with unless you are some kind of masochist.) They will teach you more about the game than reading any wiki or webpage.

Drop me a pm in game sometime if you want someone to play with or if you fancy joining a big alliance. IGN Samsara Zheng

(if u got all campaigns) imo spiritway and some sort of sabway are the best, though a lot of people use also discord

If you are starting in Prophecies, you won't have any Heroes.

If you have heroes, an HB monk, an MM, and an SoS Ritualist are always useful. The rest can vary, and of course there's always the various "ways" if you really can't handle doing it yourself.
