post searing questions

So I finally got some more playtime in and hit post-searing ascalon. WoW! Big difference.

I have to say I love the post-searing style, I love the more mobs roaming and the feel etc. It feels more open in many ways, and is just really cool and well done after playing pre-searing. Sometimes I will be walking around and suddenly realize - OMG that's the place where that guy gave me that quest and I killed a rhino or w/e. Totally cool.

However, I am now finding that soloing won't be possible until I am quite a bit above the level required for the area, or have uber gear, basically because mobs tends to come in packs of tough guys now. I have some henchmen but I am finding that I only get 8exp per mob and that I am crawling along with exp. I know the game is not about the exp, but I do like to progress at a good pace. Is this normal and is better just ignored and focus on questing the story, or is something I am doing better done another way?

I also notice the henchmen seem to get a cut of all the gold drops, which again, hurts my progress in coin (not that this seems unnatural). Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Welcome to the "real" game!

Soloing is really difficult in GW before you hit the level cap and have a good stash of skills because foes are so much stronger in post. You can use henchmen (or, if you have the other campaigns, jump over to Nightfall at a certain point and pick up heroes--basically customizable henchmen) or other players to help with this.

When you roam with others, be they AI or PC, drops are split between the whole party, so you'll get fewer weapons and gold than you would solo. Not a huge deal though. Armor upgrades aren't very expensive, and you can always use dropped weapons while you save up.

For XP, questing is best. You'll get a fair amount from killing things (if they are at your level or higher--the higher the foe the more XP. You can also use scrolls (Scroll of Hunters/Rampagers/Etc. Insight) to gain XP faster, but it can get kind of expensive.

So yeah, do quests for levels, and don't worry about money and drops too much. If you need any help, shoot me a message, too, either here or in-game: Corin Fah.

As xxfah said, you should do all the quests, as many as possible. Getting a high level can help you a lot for the incoming missions, quests, high-level mobs areas. And yes, the amount of gold is shared between the party, no matter if there are real player or AI controlled NPC's, henchmen.
Good luck with leveling and welcome to Post-Searing

Once you enter Old Ascalon City head north to the very back of the city. There you will find the first mission in the game, The Great Northern Wall.

I'll be happy to assist you for any of the missions. PM Zodiac Ele.

Welcome to Guild Wars post searing.

Money in the game shouldn't be a problem, don't worry about henchmen taking their share you can still do just fine.

Pick up everything and sell what you don't want to use yourself.

There will come a point in the game where armour protection reaches maximum for your character class, there is no point in buying armour before you reach that point as its very costly in materials and gold.

Use the collectors you meet during the game to get armour, you will only be a couple of points of protection behind what you can buy.

If you reach a point in the game where you are in need of a cash boost go back to an earlier point in the game where enemies are lower level and solo the area.
Do that a few times you should get enough money to carry on, Players call this farming and later on in the game it becomes a way to build a stock of cash and materials when you solo the really hard areas.

It is impossible to do the game solo. You need to bring henchman or real people along as content is designed for the party size in that area. Make sure to use an Identification Kit on any colored drops you get. This will get you more gold from the merchant. Otherwise, gold will accumulate in sufficient amounts as long as you don't want max armor at level 10 or want to buy an expensive weapon from a player as soon as you reach Lion's Arch. Make sure to start saving the materials you will need for the max armor you want to get.

thanks for all the replies and offers of help folks - awesome. I am a bit confused on what max armors mean? I saw some crafters in old ascalon or the city in post that can make armor for gold + materials. Is that what you mean? I also have the weapons from the bonus trilogy et, which while I know won't last forever, seem to be better than what I can get now. I also get the imp which seems to vastly out damage me.

I was mostly concerned over only getting 8 exp per mob with henchmen, and wondering how to level with only like 250 exp per quest. I will try to just not think about it and focus on questing. Any advice on what kind of armor to be thinking about, were to get weapons etc. So far I only understand - find quests, finish quests, find more. I have a few pre-searing collectors pieces, but other than that and the /bonus nothing new. I don't know where to look to next for upgrades and growing my character.

Hi and welcometo Guildwars,

As you are now in post and you say little xp.A few things first

Armour...yes you upgrade your armour as you go through various missions ect
getting you further along in the storyline.

Gold/ yes if you are just in proph then when you get to the Desert seek out the collectors if you are low on cash as they will give you max armour for collecting items in the desert.

XP/ this could be that you are higher level by 4 above the opposition
ensure you do the quests for not only xp but for free skills for your class

Have a look on what elite skills are available to you in post and obtain them with ..signet of capture

Have a look on our Campfire section
under the profession you are using to give an insight to the class you are on

Just to add to the above, max armor refers to armor which has the highest AL for your profession. For Warriors and Paragons it's 80AL, for Rangers, Assassins, and Dervishes, it's 70AL, and it's 60AL for the rest.

You already received enough good answers. I just want to say, don't worry too much about experience, Prophecies has such a slow curve that you'll level up slowly and you don't need to go faster than that, other way you'll be too strong relatively to foes and you won't enjoy the campaign.
As I understood you're just going out and killing foes + doing some secondary. It's good to move slowly the first time to appreciate everything, though you'll want to progress through the storyline doing cooperative missions. As Zodiac said you'll find the first one adjacent to ascalon itself.
Max armour, you're only going to get it in southern shiverpeaks, and believe me it's going to take a while before getting there, so ignore that for the moment. This is the list of collectors, or here so you can have a coincise scheme for your profession.
You'll be good with bonus weapons for the moment, just make sure you meet the requirements or you'll have minimum damage. The only other possibility is getting a better weapon dropped (but I don't think it can happen until you reach further areas), cause usually weapons from traders/collectors are crappier, for a while.

Collectors vs Crafters

When you were in the presearing you should have come accross collectors outside the towns.
There were a number of them and each one did one piece of armour for your character.
These are free as long as you have what they want in exchange.

So its kill stuff till you get enough for an exchange then its one free piece of armour, there are more of these collectors in post searing.

Crafters are to be found in and out of towns one type of crafter is the armourer he will make armour for gold and materials.
This is expensive and gets more so as you progress through the game to better and better armour.

Continuing to buy armour is a complete waste of money best to take the free stuff then when you get to the guy selling AR 60 for your Mesmer then buy.
You may want to check out the various styles of armour and go for the one you like best if you can get to the armourer that makes it.
I went for the Krytan and dyed it black, looks pretty good I think.

Check out too the materials needed and start putting them one one side so your ready.

In guild wars instanced areas, the mobs don't scale with party sizes.

So it's basically impossible to solo early game, and bringing a full party (even if they're just dumb henchies) always makes it easy.

As for leveling --> try doing the missions and quests. In prophecies I think you're *supposed* to hit lv20 fairly late, compared to the other campaigns anyway.

Very much so

In Factions and Nightfall you can easily be lvl 18 or 20 by the time you leave the start Island.
You also get to have an 8 person party by that time too.

Prophesies you get a very slow progression and don't get to 8 people in your party for a heck of a long time.

This comes in handy when you are running through the game for the 2nd 3rd or more times as you can nip across to Factions and do a pile of 3000 xp missions and level up yourself and your heroes.
