Starting again after 3 years and not sure what to go for..

So basically, the last time I played this was 3 years ago (and that was only casual gaming as well) and with all the news of GW2 I really feel like playing again but I'm really not sure on what build to go for. I've had a read of a couple of builds and had a look at PvX but I'm still unsure.

Just a couple of questions:

1) Basically, I'd like a decent PvE build that can also do a bit of farming for when I need a few plats (I'm interested mainly in the story though at this point). Any recommendations?

2) Which campaign should I start with? Back when I played, I only had Prophs and Factions but I've now ordered Nightfall and EoTN. I'd really like to start with either Factions or Nightfall. I remember levelling up very quickly in Factions but then after getting off the starter island finding the game very difficult so I think I'm leaning towards Nightfall.

How quickly do you level up in Nightfall? I'd really like to hit 20 very quickly like I did in Factions.

Also, if you start in Factions and level up to 20 and then move over to Nightfall, how much story do you miss? I remember when in Factions if you moved over to Prophs, you started about halfway through. I already had a character on prophs so I wasn't too bothered about the missed story but I've never played Nightfall and don't want to miss any story.

3) Any decent farming spots nowadays taking into consideration the build I'm going to follow? I've had a look at some guides and some YouTube videos but they're a number of years old now and there's a possibility most of the stuff I'm seeing has been nerfed.

Thanks

1. Well what profession are you talking about using? And if ur suggesting what new character to make I'd say go with Elementalist if u want to do dmg or Monk if you like to heal/prot. Looking at ur other questions you might also want to start as a dervish if you start in NF as they are melee and are getting a "fix" from Anet in the near future. As for builds and farming spots I'd say just look at wiki as each build is different for each farm spot.

2. Well, in my opinion, id start prophecies for the storyline, factions for the easy lvl 20 and assassin and ritualist professions(you can only make an assassin or rit if u start in factions) since that classes are a very good farming classes(possible nerf in future), and Nightfall because you havent played it yet and fairly easy to get lvl 20.

I cant remember where factions characters start off in NF but i know its still noob island.

visit pvx wiki and glance thru the farming section - this will give you a chance to see all 10 professions and go for what you feel you are happy with - nothing worse than being told builds that may not suit your style of play.
Each campaign has its own start area and foreign heros start part way in - natives get a bit of background story but its not much tbh and even starting part way you dont miss anything really important.NF for example if native is getting used to foes and doing a lot of missions leading upto what can be called the merge - the part in storyline all players need to do to continue - that merge point is where the storyline really comes into effect.

yeah faction characters start off in kamadan then quickly move to the Elona mainland, so u miss most of the "noob island" mission and quests.

Ele sounds good. I've never played as an ele so it should be interesting. This dervish "fix" sounds interesting. Any ideas on when abouts? Also, I've played through prophecies and really don't want to do all the Ascalon stuff again hence why I'm thinking of starting in Factions/Nightfall and porting back to Prophs seeing as you miss all the Ascalon stuff that way.

I'll give pvx wiki another read through then, see which ones I like then post a few here to see if they've been nerfed or not. Ah right, well that's okay then looks like I won't miss any story which is good.

I did have a 55hp SS N/Mo back then which I used for some light farming for when I needed a few plats but I never really did it to accumulate masses of wealth. Have they nerfed the 55hp builds yet?

I think what I'll do is, if I don't want to start a derv, I'll start in Factions and power through the starter island gaining quick levels and then port to Nightfall. You can port to Nightfall as soon as you get off the starter island, right?

I would go back on my account and check myself but it turns out Anet now require you to enter a previous character name at login and I can't remember the exact spellings of my character names so I'm gonna have to open another account and start from scratch (which I don't mind seeing as I didn't have much stuff on my old account). I've ordered the GW complete collection for £12 (BARGAIN.) and it should be coming in a couple days.

Really appreciate all the help from everyone who's replied. Thanks.
Nothing definite. It'll depend on how much they change, how many bugs they have to fix and how much testing they do. Don't hold your breath. It'll probably be a month/2 months if not more. If you want to play a Derv you'll be happy until then anyway. The difference between Wars/Assassins and Dervs isn't all that significant. You can play frontline perfectly well for now.

All builds on PvXWiki are current unless they have a nerfed tag at the top of the page. All builds linked to the main page are current, so you shouldn't need to worry about whether they are nerfed.

Have they nerfed the 55hp builds yet? Not really. It's just that other farms are generally more lucrative now that no one does it. You can't use them in the underworld now though because there is a new monster in there (Skeletons of Dhuum) who have attacks that bypass Protective Spirit. If you want to farm, Necro isn't really the best choice.

First thing to try is looking at old screenshots you might have, asking anyone you used to play with (real life friends maybe), anything you might have written down digitally or otherwise, looking at previous posts on forums, etc. If you still can't find a name, you can contact support. They'll request things like access codes and if you give them enough information they'll give you your necessary account information. Despite the fact you've already ordered a new account, you should do it. When a character has existed for a year/2 years/etc they get birthday presents. You can either open them and keep the minipets or sell them. They're worth a decent amount of cash; with the later year ones (3rd/4th/5th) being worth more.

55 builds have been replaced with 600 builds where the person has around 600 health and uses both prot spirit and spirit bond to stay alive.

Im not sure about nightfall but i know prophecies and factions have 15 attribute quests so if u start in factions and decide to go to NF right after noob island u might be missing 30 attribute points.

Both of the Factions 15 attribute quests are on Shing Jea Island. However, it is quite possible to miss them if you're rushing to get out.

Nightfall is the easiest I think to start out. You get heroes and the 30 attribute points basically go along with the sunspear title/main elona storyline

Nightfall is pretty easy to start out, you level fairly quickly (not as fast as Factions though), and you do miss a lot of story if you just port in from another continent without doing all the questing on Istan, IMO. There's little in the way of background for you when you go to Nightfall, so you'll probably be thinking "why the heck am I fighting these guys?"

Awesome reply, very helpful. I'll also definately try finding my old name then and see if I can get hold of these birthday presents.

Had a look at a youtube vid as well and it looks pretty good and alot more fun than a 55hp necro. Thanks for that. Even though it has been mentioned in this thread that builds using protective spirit can't farm UW it doesn't bother me too much.
