Inconsequential yet annoying Mouse issue.

Not sure if this should have gone into the Software section,as movement speed is set by software. Or if it should have gone into Hardware because the issue only appears when accessing my 2nd HDD. Anyways.

It seems every time i open a file on my slave Harddrive (WD Caviar 120gb) the mouse (standard optical Dell) cursor movement speed reduces dramatically and will stay that way even after closing said file/window. Only will it return to its normal speedy state if i interact with a window,such as firefox, or a file on my C: drive (WD Caviar 40GB) which contains very little besides the OS.

As I said its nothing substantial or critical but moving my mouse across the desk three times to get to the other side of the window does annoy me.
Movement speed is global unless pre-determined by open programs,correct?
What causes this and is their a really obvious solution to such a minor inconvenience that im just missing?

Why does the cursor movement speed reduce when interacting with files/programs on my slave HDD and return to normal when i interact with something in the master drive?

hmm... when the mouse movement slows down, is to slow and 'smooth', or slow and laggy?

Because sometimes the issue is not mouse slowing down, but your computer being slow and hence mouse feels laggy.

Other than that, I can't think of an explaination. It sounds very odd. However:
If that's the case, a quick Alt+Tab to switch to a window like firefox would restore your mouse speed.

Mouse speed is software set, in Control Panel --> Mouse. It's a computer wide setting.

Its not a laggy type of slow, the movement is still fluid.

Yea i know this, thats why its puzzling as to why it slows down when interacting with certain peripherals.

It's a very odd problem, for sure. The only thing I can think of off-hand is to ask if you installed a "mouse driver" that came with your mouse? If you did, try un-installing it. (Windows doesn't require a mouse driver.)

Another question - what's the name/model of the mouse? What OS are you using?

Ive never installed any drivers for the mouse and ive been using it for a very long time.

Only did this issue start occurring within the last few weeks and i cant think of any changes ive made to the computer since it started.
My OS is XP Home SP3 and the mouse is a Logitech M-UR69(only model number i can find on it)
Told you it's a cheapy but its always done my bidding very well.
