I am having this issue with Guild Wars and Windows 7 every time I switch towns it goes to desktop and then back to game again all the time.

There is second issue and that is window media center keep launching after I exit the game although I unchecked it in misconfig.

Don't know about the first issue.

The second one can be solved by removing the -mce command line from your GW shortcut. See this link on command lines if you don't know what they are. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Command_line

The first issue happens on my notebook as well. During the loading screen, it goes black and I can see the desktop for a second.

ON some ATI systems a flickering black screen when entering new areas of GW is common(some other games have a similar issue). Actually going to desktop and back again is a different story though. What are your system specs?

The good news is, it's not a Windows 7 problem - that is to say, Guild Wars normally works fine in Windows 7

You need to remove the -mce from the GW command line. However, if you are starting GW from the Games folder, I don't know (atm) how you can change any start up options for it.
For now, find the Guild wars folder under Program Files (or Program Files (x86)). Right click on the file "gw.exe" and select Properties, then Send To > desktop (create shortcut).
That will create a GW shortcut on the desktop. Check the "Target" line in the shortcut to make sure -mce is not there (if it is, delete the -mce)

An alternate way to create a desktop icon in Windows 7 is to open the Games folder a right-click on the GW icon. Select "Copy". Put the cursor over the desktop and right-click and select "Paste Shortcut". That will place a GW shortcut on the desktop, however, I'm not sure if any commands like -mce show up (or can be added) in it's target line.

A note to MicroSoft - Windows 7 is great, but could you fix the dam Games folder so people can modify the startup commands. Even Vista could do that.

I guess this could be related to the ATI flickering screen if you have an ATI GPU but seeing the desktop does seem weird. I get the flickering screen in GW but i never saw the desktop.

In any case, try updating your video drivers if they are not up to date to see if it fixes the issue.

I am not getting this anymore I guess I was probably letting all the info load and will do with the -mce.

Thanks

I get the flicker to black and back on Windows 7 with an ATi card as well and I also see the desktop for a split second.

(When only Zoning only of course)

Other than that, I get nearly constant 60+ Frames all the time and great performance.
