I just created a ranger, and i'm looking for black bears in presearinc. I found like tons of them in wizard's folly, but the problem is, I can't charm them. They have an attack that knocks me down and interrupts the charm. Any ideas on how to charm them? It takes like 10 seconds for the spell to work... Rrrr

do a search. somewhere on the forum, there is instructions for how to get a bear in presearing. its kind of hard, and will require a second person.

In Post-Searing you're free to charm bears.

yeah you will have to just keep the stalker you charm in pre searing and then go to jarrell the tamer right outside of ascalon city (when you get to post searing) and then you can charm a bear as soon as you find one

HOW TO CHARM A BEAR IN PRE-SEARING: it's a combination of the warrior hammer knockdown and the monk bane signet to keep it off you for 10 seconds

Oinker is just what he calls his warthog.

Anyway - The exploit where you could get a bear presearing has long since been fixed - Now NO MATTER WHAT if you hit Charm Animal - He breaks it.

You don't get the chance at a bear until much later on. Black Bears are in the Southern Shiverpeaks.

I of course Don't suggest using a bear though.

Their inherent use of "Brutal Mauling" style attacking makes them the slowest animal - and has been tested and proven not to make them any more powerful to any other animal.

SO their basically slower with no good side to back it up.

The first occasion to charm a bear is in the Northern Shiverpeaks just outside Beacond Perch.
Exit to the Lornarrs Pass - after the first group of avicara is a black bear (in most cases).

Ask a few friends or guildies to help you with the monsters and you can get one. My ranger got her bear over there, before going to Kryta.

You forget their inherently high cuteness factor and large ass.

It's relitavely difficult to charm a bear. I did it with my ranger in presearing, but you have to get help from the right type of person. I managed to find a Mo/Me to help me do it. He used bane signet/imagined burden and that gave me enough time to charm one. I know it can be done other ways, such as having another person in your party and the bear attacks them instead of you. Although, without another person in your party, I dont see it happening.

Having the bear attack the second person doesn't work. I have tried that a number of times. the bear will stop fighting your partner and will break your charm and go back to fighting your partner.

Exactly, giving you enough time to cast the charm, your partner to use bane signet, then imagined burden, and by then, the charm is complete. Go ahead and try it, I've done it.

What I find starnge is this:

Why were bears made 'uncharmable' in pre in the first place?..

Oink is the piggie at the beginning of the Gates of Kryta mission. Is it charmable? No, I tried.

cause those bears are enemies, not normal animals.

It's not that, because the wolves in presear are enemies as well, and I charmed one of those.

No idea. It doesn't even seem to make any sense; I haven't tested the attributes of a bear charmed in pre-searing, but if they are like other bears they are sub-standard anyway. Perhaps initially they had a nasty "Brutal Mauling" attack, but as it is now (wild, in pre-searing) they have no such ability (I allowed one to attack me and recorded the brutal mauling damages and the regular damages and they were the same) so I see little reason excepting perhaps having a novelty pet later - but then why introduce bears at all in pre-searing.
