So, I played GW a ton back in the day, starting when it first came out. I haven't played in over a year, and after the recent news about GW2, got the urge to play again.
However, I could not log in to my account when I tried. I realized that my login (my college email) was no longer in existence, because the school had changed mail servers and given me a new student email. Apparently, having talked to NC support, the only way to find my account, give it a new email / ANet account, and reset the password so I can log in is with either the access keys to the original cds I bought (long gone) or the debit card number used to purchase games on the account (as of 3+ years ago, long gone ... I have since switched banks and have no idea what these numbers are).
Anyways, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? I would really like to get back to my (heavily played and medium-accomplished) account and characters, to fool around with until GW2 comes out. Thanks!

My login email is for a long dead email address and it works just fine, password is changed frequently for security but email is an old one.
It doesn't have to be working for it to allow a logon, of course if you have forgotten the exact wording or have forgotten the password your out of luck.
You will also have to remember the name of one character.

If you're having trouble remembering a character's name, there may be a small chance you have a screenshot from a long time ago save somewhere on some computer.
The login e-mail and password should be fine, if you remember them.
I think that account recovery from CD Key or Debit is pretty good for those it applies to. I can't think of any way else you could recover an account that wouldn't be an entry way for unauthorized use.

yeah, i still log in on my second account all the time and it has a dead email. that part doesnt matter. you need to know the password and a character name and you are in business.

fyi if your email address got deleted and is on a public domain, any old scumbag can go and create the same email and password reset. especially hotmail, there were tons of free accounts up for grabs before they introduced the character name to login. don't know how in the world i would know this of course!

The only problem caused by your dead email account is that if you ask NCSoft to send you a new password or something, you won't get the email. You CAN, however, use the dead email as your username at login, provided you can recall your password and a character name.

If you don't know those things, and you no longer have any proof of ownership, your only choice would be to buy the game and start over.

Yeah, I remember my login ID and password, and all of my numerous characters' names, but I still get a Code=227 (cannot recognize account login information error) when I try to login. I guess my only course of action is to try and find the debit card number for the bank card I used to buy the games, and give that to Support. (The access keys to the games are loooooong gone.)
Edit: I guess the only explanation is my account was compromised somehow, and the login information changed, or the characters deleted. Since people seem to have accounts working on dead emails, I can't think of what else might be keeping me from logging in.
