good level to join acadamy
sparx
what do you think is a good, high enough level to join the acadmy is? if it matters, i am a w/r.

I went in as a level 5 N/Mo...but ended up getting paired with all henchmen and, therefore, getting my ass beat into the ground. The score ended up being 10-4...I got all 4 kills
I think 5 at the lowest would be just fine though

i get the basic skills for all of my characters and then head out as fast as i can. its usually around 4 or 4 and a half. i never have seemed to have any problems with my characters.

You want to be really prepared for the academy. I left pre-searing at level 8 after finishing 'all' the quests and even going past the gate to fight charr.

Why do you want to be "prepared"? I mean, once you have the stuff you need from pre-searing you go through. At least I do; I don't worry too much about winning the match as you get paired up with absolutely anything - I've been paired with all bots and there wasn't even a healer on my side, while the other side had two people and two bots, but they had a healer. Was a slaughter. Back in the betas it mattered, because they didn't give you bots and Rurik didn't help with the cave - I had to solo the cave with a level 6 monk, since my "partner" disconnected. Took many tries and a lot of time, but now it's so easy that you probably could just let Rurik take everythng.

Hmm. I will say, that you need to be lvl 8. Remember to take all the quest when you are ther. Dont just thÃnk that it shall be fast. Take your time enjoy the good grafik..

I think with the two characters I've played so far I left too soon. The human mobs near the Abbey have the tendency of dropping dyes like crazy which sell for quite a bit post-searing. I was able to nab 2 silvers and a black dye from those guys. Also, you could collect the worn belts, trade them for the pouches, and sell the pouches post-searing. It's much easier to solo and get drops pre-searing to collect a lot of materials for crafting later. Finally, if you do several of the collection quests you can get a good set of armor which offsets the need for spending the gold later.
All in all, I'd recommend spending time simply building your resources pre-searing.

I left at lv8 and did all the quests that I could do alone. Didn't want to leave the beautiful world behind.

indeed mang, i cant believe how nice GW runs with these graphics!!! how do they do it???
Last Gasp
They do it with pretty good Level of Detail code. Good enough that you don't really notice them if you're not looking for them, while they're still saving you horsepower for the important polygons.

dont worry as long as you are lvl 6 or higher and get lots of henchmen at the academy u will do fine

are you guys serious? why grind in pre searing for so long? i only stay to get my skills (i usually dont even finish the quests since they give you the skills first) and leave. Almost always just into level 3. You guys are talking level 6-8??? My god man, by then im at yaks and by 10 in maguuma. Why do the grind in places where drops only net a couple gold?
Seriously a couple hours worth of drops in pre searing wont even be worth a single drop past shiverpeaks... why bother?
The only point i see to the beginning areas is to get skills and leave asap... I want to get to riverside at least before grinding out levels
on a side note... i find it hilarious to be seeing people lvl 13,14, even 15 still on quests like fort ranik and surmia, while im still level 3 or 4 and completing the missions just as easily (usually just sprinting to the cutscene). you could be at riverside by those levels and *SHOCK* even earning EXPERIENCE!!!

lvl 7 works fine for me. I did all the quests I wanted to do in pre searing for all my characters and leave at 7 each time. Never had problems at that level. I think a level 5 would get eaten alive by the lvl 3 and 4 scorpion outside of ascalon
relientK_fan
I left at four, and so did all my guild. We did not help each other, and I am level 10 at the ruins of surmia. No problemo so far.
Taranis
I left at level 9,6, now I'm level 15, almost level 16 in Yaks Bend
Azreal911
I left at level 7, and was totally unprepared for some academy fight since it was my first time. Paired up with a Pc and two henchies vs the same type of opposing team of 2pc and 2 henchpeople. Once i was there i got bang up pretty bad outside by scorpions and gargoyles. Realizing now i really have to setup my necro skills accordingly in order to survive at all. After putting some thought into it i'm doing much better now! Pre searing was such a beautiful world sitting in town on a bright summer day and chatting with others was such fun!
bloozmahn
is there some signifigance to the academy fight i'm missing? i've found that since i've gotten used to the game, i jet out of pre-searing asap to get things goin once i get my res sig and my secondary picked. the armor sucks and most of the time i have to borrow money to get into my storage and get my good stuff i've set aside for the new guy.
healer of u
I went with my warrior at lvl 4 and my monk and aeromancer at lvl 2, its not hard at lvl 2 if u have prior experience in gw (I beat the game b4 i made my monk and aeromancer) but for beginners u will have no trouble at lvl 3-5 and/or up.

I suggest that you need to be around level 6-8 if you want to do any soloing when you get to post searing. Also important, you want to have enough money to upgrade your armor in Ascalon City right away, which means around 2000 gp if you don't have any materials. If you hold on to any dyes you find in pre-searing you are probably ok.
EmperorTippy
I left at lvl 16 on my last char and that seemed to work out great.
25 kills to 0

For your first character, sit around and enjoy pre-searing and do all of the quests. That'll probably net you level 8 or so.
All characters after that, grab your skills and leave ASAP. If you need money you can just transfer it over from another character.
