Hello everyone, I'm quite new to the game so if this seems like a noob question, I'm sorry.
I've recently started and finally got past the mini-Academy mission. Right after, I closed Guild Wars (I was in a hurry to get somewhere). When I came back, I wasn't next to Captain Osric anymore, I was in Old Ascalon. My friend told me I had to start all over because I needed to speak with him to get a mission and now I can't go back to him.
Is this true?
Thank you very much for you help and time
Mission Question In Old Ascalon?

Do you mean by "Old Ascalon" the explorable area with that name or the pre-searing ascalon? If you are in the explorable area you have successfully finished the tutorial. Welcome in the "real" world.
To makes thinks easy:
Everything is shiny and green: Tutorial
Everything is brown and depressing: Post-Searing, tutorial is finished
Edit: If you lost a primary quest in prophecies - don't worry. You can beat every mission if you reach the mission outpost. (unlike Factions where doors are closed if you don't have the right primary quest or Nightfall where you have to speak to someone to start the mission).

You should always log out while in a town, not in an instanced area. This game doesn't "save" your location when you leave in the middle of an instance. If you want to return to the same place when you leave the game, make sure to be in a town/outpost, and not still in a combat area.
As for your specific question about Osric, gosh, it's been 5 years since I've made a prophecies character so I really don't remember.

Sorry for my noobness, but mission outpost? Is that just the location of the mission? I know my first mission is supposed to be Great Northern Wall. Are you saying that by just going to where I'm supposed to go, I'll be able to do the mission?
And thanks for all your replies guys, I really do appreciate it.
@Post above me- Yea, I've figured that out now.
The Great Northern Wall;
"Speak to the Captain. He will brief you on the situation and tell you to scout the wall to find the Charr army. Head outside the gate and travel to the north-west following the path. Eventually you will find a Devourer or Grawl boss near a gate with a lever. Pull the lever to open the gate and follow the path heading west for a short distance, until you reach a split with several devourers. Continue north where you will find a large group of Gargoyles attacking some Grawl. Wait until the fight is over to attack or simply run past them as they don't tend to follow. Pass the bridge and take the first path to your left, heading west. At the end of that path you'll see a campfire with some Charr and a boss. After you have killed them, run through until the cutscene starts. "
So it looks like I can't do this mission without speaking to him, right?

Not the pre searing Ascalon, the burned down and depressing Ascalon.

While it's true that you can't get back to pre-searing, there is no need to either.

Alright, thank you Quaker. I finally got it. I appreciate all of your help, you've just saved me plenty of time. I owe you a drink gents!

The Captain you are refering to is in the Great Northern Wall instance (mission). When you start the mission, he is just a short distance from where you start.

Its a Quest, not a Mission.
Though, reading the Quest walkthrough, it seems u dont miss much.
