Super Newb needs halp

The boyfriend asked me to try and play the RP campaign for Guild Wars. I figured I'd give it a shot, however, I am having some character creation problems.

I'm getting through most of the process just fine, except for when it comes to the name. Now...for one, I'm not sure what that colored orb is in the bottom right hand corner of the screen..switches from green to yellow/brown? Also, there's no way for me to tell if the name(s) I am trying to use are taken. No matter what names I have used, and I have used some completely random thrown together things...the "create" button will not highlight for me to hit.

I'd ask the boyfriends help, but he's at work..and has not played in a few years so he has no idea wtf is going on either. Can someone please help me

The "orb" you mentioned has nothing to with the name, it just shows you the speed of the last ping.

Names in Guildwars must not contain any special characters and have must at least consist of two words. (So no Shádôwdéàths in GW)

While typing your name there is a list of reqirements (max. length, at least one space,...) for that name which turn green whether they are met or not.

Edit: I don't remember when the game tells you that a name is already in use...

Yep, the orb you mention is just to tell you what ping you last received to the servers, whilst choosing a common name might be difficult - try throwing together random names / words.

You've said you try the random approach and still get errors, but whenever I quickly do that I get no problem. Maybe my imagination is a bit more crazy!

I know all this. I don't usually use special characters in names anyway lol, and I know the max length and such. I've apparently "passed" all those checks, as I had 4 green checkmarks that..to me, indicated I was ready to go, but still couldn't hit the "Create" button.

I'm not crazy, and I never said anything about getting an error. I haven't gotten any errors, I said that no matter what name I use, the "create" button never lights up for me to click.

You seem to know about the character length limits, special characters, numerals, must have a space etc... and if you're getting all four green check marks under the area where you type the character name it SHOULD be letting you create the character, there are NO additional steps... sounds like a bug. Probably need to contact support. Sorry.

OKAY, SO.....Guild wars character creation just hates me or something. But yeah, here's what I had to do.

Apparently his last character creation slot is messed up or something. I asked him if I could delete one of his unused characters that he made to test something, and he said yes. So..I deleted said character, and went about the character creation process on that slot. Got to the end, typed in a name BAM.."Create" button turned green for me to push.

Thanks and yeah, sorry if I sounded snippy at all, I was just on the verge of beating the thing in the face. Like I just posted, it seemed to be the last character creation slot. I'm going to let the boyfriend handle contacting support, since it's his account.

Oh, this probably should be mentioned in hushed tones... It IS a violation of the Guild Wars User Agreement to share an account with other people... it can get the account banned.

If your boyfriend is going to contact support about the flaky character slot, he might want to NOT mention that he's sharing the account

GOD, I LOVE HOW I COULDN'T SPELL MY OWN NAME -_-' I didn't realize it was spelled wrong until I went to log in and it wouldn't work. I couldn't use that name so I changed it's email and then reregistered with the correct name lol.

And Nerel...that's not fair I mean, I can understand for privacy issues for passwords and stuff, but, he bought the games and the expansions, there are what..8 character slots? I don't think GW should limit who decides to have a character. They're being played on one computer, and it's stupid as hell and they are being greedy if they expect me to buy their games again all for my own account >>

Thanks for the warning though. And thanks everyone else and dear god, please don't turn him/us in for sharing and account -_- I didn't know and I'm not sure he did either, and if he did...that's another mark on his lack of memory (cause he forgets things all the time...)

Relax. Im sure Nerel isnt heading towards support right now A lot of people share accounts with their bf/gf, brother/sister etc. Just dont go botting so people report you. And just tell your bf not to tell support about it

It is technically Illegal but nobody cares about it, kinda like jaywalking. Don't let people here scare you.

Oh, I didn't just mean Nerel on that, I meant anyone. I mean...I've been around enough websites, either gaming or other, that if you do something even slightly against TOS....they come running at you with a threat to turn you in, so yeah lol. As far as botting goes..I know what it is (based on what my boyfriend said about people doing that on RO, and there are just botting things everyhwere. Gaia, Neopets, Pogo.com :/) As much as one could totally get rich doing it (or so I have heard), It's not something I would do. Takes all the fun out of it lmao.

They frown on sharing or reselling because they make their income from people buying the games. But they don't usually chase anyone down for letting a friend create a character to try the game.

You'll be fine. I know lots of people where husband and wife, gf and bf and brothers and sisters have characters on the same account.
