I think the highest percentage drop rate is the aatxes. But they are alot slower to kill then the others. The best farming area is probably pools, plains, or pits in terms of drops in the area. Smites are popular because you can do a run really quickly.

i have never got a ecto from a smite before and i have been farming for 3 months :/

but yea i think i remember aataxes dropping the highest % of ecto, but they take forever to kill and they do a crapload of damdge. I also get alot of ecto from the skeles, just saying.

i would suggest having a friend(or an alt even) go and duo this. Thats personally what i do when im doing the UW usually i just take my alt with me and manage both of them and benefit from increased drop rate and whoever gets the ecto its still me 
. Duo spirits is really nice b/c its near impossble to fail when your farming and its really easy(especially in NM) hope this helped!.

Aatxes, they're at 4% which is the highest. Best choice is probably Smite Crawlers though as they're easy to kill, most builds focus on killing them, there are tons of them and they're drop percentage is 2%.

When I used to uwsc a lot, I'd go for the charged blacknesses if I had time to kill extra stuff.

Physwaying UW sees the death of pretty much every foe in UW; Aatxe die as fast as a Smite Crawler it seems, too. Only things that don't drop ectos are Grasping and Coldfires. Oh, and Behmoth.
