I'll answer that question as if it was a serious one, just in case someone else is curious about the answer.
I donated to every award this year so I didn't have to rely on donations to make the prizes substantial. I might even pad them further in the future. So no, you don't have to donate and this is intentional. However, all donations are, of course, still welcome. They could help take a prize from "decent" to "epic".

Would also make sense, seeing how if you go for the scariest, you can't really go for the funniest. :x You are not the first person to request the chance to submit several entries. I agree with your reasoning, and I don't personally see a good reason why it shouldn't be allowed. However, I would like to hear from the other participants whether they would agree to it, so:
Question for everyone: Should participants of the Workshop be allowed to enter more than one submission to this contest, and should there be a cap to how many?
I updated OP with some new names and progress galleries. Here's Penguin's progress so far:
Mod Edit: I've added the recently added spoil tags to shorten the post.

Wauw Penguin, that looks great! I love the colors especially on the scythe.
If you want to improve it, you might want to concider putting some more detail on the scythe or show some more of his body.
As to the public question, I think that everyone should be able to submit 1 piece of artwork per category. But also should be able to post every image/story etc. they've made so we can all comment and help that person choose their best piece.

Does make sense, minami, but I have a rebuttle about one comment:
Quote: I don't think people should choose which category they want to submit their pictures to [...], every picture submitted by the artist should qualify for each category I think people should strive for certain categories, due to two of them, scariest and funniest, being mutually exclusive (well, I at least cannot see how a scary thing can be funny or a funny thing be scary, but maybe my imagination is just limited - then again, I find next to nothing "scary" - an interesting aspect for a gothic writer :/).
As to the two-entries thing: I suggest that it is limited to one artwork medium. That is, if you do a traditional work, you can make a costume/plushie, a digital work, a written piece, etc. but no second traditional work piece. And I would agree with Minami's limit of two submissions with only one winning (unless the judges say they'd be fine with more).
Due to not many people being open to a multitude of different medium (some people good with traditional may not have access to digital, and those with access and talent in digital may not necessarily be good with traditional outside of lineart), let alone having the time to do so many pieces, I don't think that a number would be that problematic if the category limit and winning limit is put in place.
That said, I'll be doing two works (just two): A traditional piece and a writing piece. Got an idea for my traditional piece, but not sure if I wanna make that my full choice (still thinking of possibilities... mainly concerning my GW characters, as I feel that Thorn and Dhuum are/will be overdone).
@Penguin's Dhuum: That's really good and I don't know where to go with critique/criticism. However, if you're wanting to make that more Dhuum-like, I suggest altering the eyes to give them a green glow akin to his "glassy" eyes from the game or the green-ish glow seen in the concept art.

Scary? I've seen a scarier jigglypuff. |
Well, Aeronwen, on one hand you have everyone with an equal chance (theoretically) to enter multiple works intended for multiple categories - a person can, for instance, work on a funny work while also working on a scary work. Though, of course, due to personal speed in work and free time, not everyone actually has an equal chance in this.
But on the other hand, when knowing that some will enter in one work, others will enter in 2 or 3, those with 2 or 3 have more chance at winning a prize, even if for completely different categories. If a person were to win Scary and Funny with 2 different works, they'd be getting far more prizes than anyone else. Would they have earned it? Certainly, I would think (unless there is bias among the judges, which I doubt will happen given the current mood), but some people may be bitter. To limit to one win would be to give others a chance at winning.
Mind you, however, that I am not for or against people winning in multiple categories - I know I certainly would love to (I need ectos! >.< And could always use armbraces... Bloody HoM). But it's really a matter of personal views - would it be fair or unfair, and to whom?
I think so long as a single piece of art cannot win multiple categories, and so long as there is a (low) limit to how many works a person can give (I still suggest one per medium), I think it is okay.
Personally, I think the list of mediums (I'd rather not call them categories, as when I say/read categories, I think of the prize categories) needs a slight edit - there's "fan art" (that's everything), "concept art" "Illustrations" and "wallpaper" which can all be split into "digital art" and "traditional art" - then there's the "Cosplay" and "Costume Design (& Creation?)" which I consider to be the same under "Costumes." But now I'm just rambling!
Uhm, erm, *thinks of how to make a relevant post that isn't nitpicking*, oh! I currently got three thoughts going on and I'm not sure which to go with. Each idea is more of a character being focused on. I got an idea for one of them, but I don't know if it is scary enough.
The idea for the one thought out is to take Byleth (brief description: white(ish) hair, one eye, very tanned skin, tattoos all over his chest, and a very devout follower of Dhuum) with his scythe (inspired by the Undead Scythe in its design). Basically, it's a portrait with Byleth licking the blade of the scythe (it's clean, as opposed to the cliche "lick the blood off of the blade" idea) and in turn cutting his tongue, overfilling his mouth with his own blood (so that it starts dripping down his chin) with a sinister/insane grin on it (may to out to be a joker-esque grin).
Not sure if that's scary enough though... given the right expression I suppose it could be but... :/

Konig, it's scary enough I think.
Maybe people should only be able to enter 2 mediums, 1 work each.
One entry into all possible mediums/categories would be too much. Who has the time to submit that many quality stuff anyways?
I'd love to see many different people win, even though I'd love to try for heaps of ectos.

Is it just a mis-link or is Penguin actually Esp? Because if it is, YOU'RE BLOWING MY MIND, ESP.

That's rather why I say it doesn't matter for an overall limit, but rather a limit per medium. Most people won't be able to do more than 2 or 3 mediums - maybe a fourth if they work fast, but that's highly unlikely. Most people probably wouldn't even have the talent to produce good work in multiple mediums as well.
Just saying that it feels like overkill. But it don't matter to me, as I'll just producing two works.

Some already imagining 2-3 art works even if they haven’t started on there 1st
I want to c some progress from people not arguments
I don’t think people will enter more then 1 art work since The lurker’s contest got like zillion ectos to win

Name: Frusti Rita
Art Form: Pencil/Coloured Pencil
Idea: A meeting with an ancestor (A ritualist and a spirit)
Progress Gallery: None yet
Artbook Award: [x] Why not.
Official Contest: [x] Yea, why not. I just need to make myself do it when the time comes!
Workshop Awards: [x]
So, am I allowed to let others know of what I was planning to do?
I guess I am, so: I was thinking about a ritualist in the dark, on the right hand side of the screen, looking like discussing something with a spirit (one like the aggressive spirits of GW, Bloodsong etc.). I though I would draw this with coloured pencils on an A3 black paper, trying to do something bigger and in a way inverted from what I usually do (white A4 and the usual pencil).
I only have two little problem-like things I'm wondering; the colour of the spirit and whether the Ritualist would wear a bandana or a headwrap. Really can't decide between a green+orange spirit or the GW-like aqua coloured one.
I'm assuming I could use something like up to 10 hours with the drawing, if my patience keeps me going
In other news: Penguin... You make me feel kind of jealous, that really is a great piece of work! Hope to see it finished soon, it really gets me excited about this whole thing!

I don’t think people will enter more then 1 art work since The lurker’s contest got like zillion ectos to win Hrmm, I think I'm the only one who mentioned doing 2 works. But one of them isn't art, but rather writing. And I'm a fast writer - I make short stories and finish them within 3 hours on average, if not less. A few times I took not even 45 minutes to write a 2 page short story that many people quite enjoyed.
