The app being developed for IPhone, IPad, Android and PC to track guild, auction and friends will also be able to work with the original Guild Wars, not just GW2. There will be a small download fee, but no other costs to use the app.

ArenaNet App will work for GW1 also

Does that mean that the auction system that they are implementing for GW2 has potential for being used by GW1 players as well? I'm guessing not, but it would be a nice development.
Due to restrictions on the friendslist size, it would be nice if we could store even more contacts within this app.

Auction House in GW1, I would say *quite* unlikely. That's a major feature of the game, and adding it after most people will abandon GW1 (to play GW2) would be a poor business choice.

Couldn't have said it better myself
I'm rather curious about this. In GW1 you can be added to anyone's friends list at any time, without your permission or even knowledge. Will this app require the permission of the person being monitored before others are able to see if they're online or not, or will you just be able to see the online status of anyone you've added to your friends list whether they want you to or not?
Personally, if permission isn't required, I'd rather that - outside of the game itself - my online status was only visible to people who are mutual friends, ie I'm on their list and they're on mine. I hope you're programming it this way.
