I got a r9 command plated shield from them about 9 months ago but not had a spear drop yet... plenty of staves, daggers & shields.

plated -> yes
serrated -> no

actually i think serrateds come from chests only? (not sure... can anyone confirm that?)

They DO drop spears, just not sure about serrated.

They drop scythes too, but now that I think about it, I'm not sure I've ever seen GOLD spears or scythes. Is that weird?
