Are skills getting over used?
Junato
I always notice Anet changing skills nerfing and whatnot, but this is what I want to know everytime someone brings a new build to the game there is a nerf waiting to happen around the corner. So, why is it that everyone has to put on their thinking caps to go around the nerfs.
Example, the SF nerf everyone either managed to went to go around it or quit playing the game. So my question is, is it fun going around these obstacles?
I can never go around these obstacles, because I am not elite like the others. Is this why people rather play PvP, because the obstacles in PvP differ from PvE and it is not as much as a big deal?

PvE-wise, nerfs only occur for farming/speed-clear related things. 'Proper'/balanced builds never get nerfed because Anet wants to promote that over gimmicky stuff like SF (hence why 99% of PvE is trivial). I don't recall ever being bothered by a skill change. I suppose for the people that speed clear it (nerfs) invalidates old records and new ones need to be set, but other than things like that I don't think there is any getting around obstacles.
PvP-wise, the meta is more relevant because skills get both buffs and nerfs. They force people to work with whats relevant.

The people who quit the game from the Shadow Form nerf obviously didn't stick around long enough to see it still needs nerfing.
Nerfs can add balance to what balance we still have in the game.

Skills do get overused for a certain amount of time. Since PvE is always static in regards to the skills that the AI uses; people figure out ways to exploit this with the skills that Anet provides.
For example, the Shadow Form skill gave a whole new meaning to solo farming and speed clears. I think it was in the best interest of the community for Anet to balance certain overused skills like SF.
In PvP though, the skill sets are more varied. Since there is no rigid structure of skills that people CAN use, it always changes.
Because of this and the fact that PvE gets highly redundant at times, I think people tend to migrate over towards PvP.
I just like to do the fastest, easiest and most simple way of getting what I want. That's why PvE is what it is. Builds get more popular and the most efficient way of farming becomes the norm (overused skills), until an update or nerf. I think....
Sorry for such a long reply loll tl;dr

Well there was the R/A sway that went on for wayy too long and let people faceroll their rank in HA, after the nerf I would say... at least 40% of them quit pvp, I was also observing some HA matches today and saw at least 8 consecutive halls matches where people were running the same build and its been like this for a while- no update yet. [there are the rare occasions where someone isn't running the same thing as 80% of the people playing HA today are]

People will always seek the way of the least resistance. Why bother with a 3 hour clear of UW when it can also be done in half an hour with the right combination of skills?
Junato
Okay, I think I kind of mind myself unclear.
I have done UW once and that was when I was alone and was and still am a noob. I would like to do it alone however, the issue is that I can never get good enough to do manage the build or either I can never get people to help me out. These days people go to dungeons and SC with ppl they trust however for the average joes I can never get a team together to help me out on some dungeons.
That is why some people would want to do things alone and rely on youtube to show them how to do clears. Like I even have hard times getting up to the vaetirrs and I give up on the third death. I can't get better, because skills are changing due to nerfs and I have a hard time getting around.
Does anyone know what I mean? Its a hard time for people who are intermediary to get around these obstacles once things change. It's like in economics class the richer get richer and the poorer get poorer in this case the pro's are getting better while the noobs are getting noobier.

Junato: since you mention that you can never find people to do anything with you. Are you in a guild? I can understand that if you aren't, and you are just venturing it alone out there, it would be near impossible to find someone for more high end stuff.
You should find an active guild whose members like helping out guildies etc, as that's probably the best way to find fun and nice people to do things with.

I have a question related to this; Why does ANet nerf all farming builds, when they want us to farm? Or maybe I'm stupid and they don't want us to farm at all D; ?
Arduin
What makes you think Anet wants us to farm?
Xiaquin
They're ok with farming, they claim that there is a line somewhere though. How we are supposed to interpret that, I don't know. They let keg farming go on forever before a nerf, and SF is still overpowered. Something tells me that while they, as a whole, have a policy toward what is ok and what isn't, the team disagrees a lot, so we see silly things get nerfs and others left alone.

It's also worth noting that "farming" is not defined as only a "solo" thing. You can "farm" with any number of players, up to a full party. In many cases it's can be fastest to use 2 or 3 party members - you get less per run, but get more runs done. (The classic 600/smite team is an example.)

Reseach. Then...
Practice.
You will never get better at any of the farms or dungeons or missions if you don't find out what needs to be done and how and then try it out maybe several times. I remember when we first started running Bogroots as a guild, must have been a year ago or more before the builds were posted on PvX. It was brutal running and dying in a pile at the bats trying different builds. Until one day...it worked.
There are always skill changes in this game and you have to learn to adapt. The good thing is those changes happen so infrequently (see any number of QQ threads on lack of updates) that you can learn a new one and not worry about it's immediate demise.
As someone else said, find a guild that does what you want to do. Builds are pinged in Guild Chat all the time.
If you think the entry to PvE is difficult, don't try PvP. Monsters don't call you names, dance on your corpse, and laugh at you when you die.
Wait, what was the purpose of this thread again???

The purpose of this thread was to see if skills are overused to a point that it updates as much as a woman and her period.
