To buy EotN or not?
NeNe
Hi!
I've been playing Guild Wars since its release but stopped around the time the Eye of the North expansion was released for personal reasons. I have all the other expansions and completed ~about every major thing you could do in the PVE area. In PVP I completed what I wanted, got into HA final match (the one before choosing the winner), won numerous battles in random and team arena and so on.
Although I haven't touched the game at all during my break (expect very rarely for some random arenas) I have recently been having some interest in getting back to the game while waiting for the Guild Wars 2, yeah, Guild Wars 2 looks super awesome!
So my questions are;
Is it worth buying the Eye of the North anymore? Will I be all alone there or are there still new players around/players that are having their alternative characters in that area? Or am I way too late to buy the final expansion of Guild Wars?
I used to enjoy somekind of grinding but lately I have been so busy that I will not have any time to grind so does EotN require any grinding?
And the most important question of all, why is the EotN worth the low cost it currently costs (below 10€)? Because of Hall of Monuments? Anything else?
All opinions are appreciated
Thanks!
Yours,
NeNe

1) Heaps of people still play EotN. It's designed for people who have finished the other campaigns so it's harder but the rewards tend to be better.
2) EotN does not have any necessary grind, but if you enjoy that kind of thing there is a title for each major group (Norn, Dwarf, Ebon Vanguard, and Asura) that can take a little while to max depending on how you go about doing it.
3) If you really want to get back into it, it's worth it. The Hall of Monuments will give you something to work towards while waiting for GW2.
4) EotN is cheap probably because it's an expansion rather than a full campaign. It doesn't introduce any new professions and is probably a bit shorter than the full campaigns.

There are also quite a few good PvE only skills associated with EotN.

It's only 7 dollars on Newegg. There's no reason not to get it, it's a slot for less money than buying one.

It's quite good value and also gives you a bridge to GW2, alot of nice PvE skills to help you in hard mode and such.
No reason not to really.

Pro's: Gives you access to areas like Asuran and will no doubt help you understand teh Asurans in GW2 a lil more
Con's: Runners
Ps. If the Asuran's are still playing polymock in GW2, then we are all f*cked

Well, if you are interesting in GW2 get EoTN for lore reasons alone. Plus you get the HoM.

Personally, I would say it is very much worth the small cost. One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet is the world itself -- the EotN areas are beautiful, with many areas lush and green -- reminiscent of pre-searing. The burning forest is killer, and visually unlike any other area in the game.
The monsters are new, interesting, and have better skill bars and mixed profession groups, making them more fun to play against. Fighting dinosaurs is always cool and the Krait are awesome looking -- there are even giants in diapers. The bunny hole by itself is worth $7.
If you farm or grind at all the PvE skills that can be acquired in EotN are helpful in every campaign, even at low reputation levels. Plus, even though there were no new slots, professions, or storage spots opened up in EotN there were some new skills for every profession.
Buy it -- if you don't enjoy it you've only lost the cost of a mediocre meal which makes it a pretty good gamble.

We need a sticky for this. Yes, EOTN is totally awesome, the crown jewel of GW. I mean that quite sincerely. For all the reasons already cited here, plus one more thing I can add is an abundance of wit and pop-culture references.

If you still enjoy playing GW then I would strongly recommend getting it.

No, no, don't. Please save yourself the trouble of getting addicted (again).

In a game with finite content, and such fantastic value, it would be crazy not to. Think of it as costing the same as a month subscription to WoW.

If for nothing else, the skills in EOTN (especially the PvE) ones are going to help you so very much. Next would probably be the lore or newer heroes... but thats about it.
I would not suggest buying it just for the HoM because I don't think HoM rewards will ever come out anyways. It was just a marketing ploy that went downhill when they neglected it due to possible time constraints.

Yes there is some grindage, if you are looking for titles and the trek to the Asuran missions can be brutal (almost everyone hires a runner).
That being said, the pve skills are fun, there is a lot of humor in some of it, and if you want to play GW2 the HoM is very important.
Now there is GW:B which requires some EotN stuff (or at least is a lot easier with it). There's the War in Kryta and more stuff coming up.
The 5 people in the janitor's closet at anet are doing a great job to create new content while everyone thub twiddles waiting for GW2; and EotN is a good way to spend that time.

if you are really into titles this is the expansion for you. this expansion also makes survivor extremely easy to attain if you have not maxed it yet by doing the kilroy stonekin boxing and using scrolls. you can use the kilroy area just to level characters as well. you can enter eotn at level 10 and all of your stats are set to 12 i think for your primary profession. the pve only skills are a really fun way to play too.

EotN has, imo, some of the best PvE content in the game. The dungeons in particular have a few interesting mechanics that, at least, make them more than the "follow this path killing everything in your way" mentality of almost every other mission in the game. There are also quite a few novel quests (particularly the addition of solo quests) that bend the game's mechanics a bit. It's worth it. Plus, the HoM will be a welcome addition if you plan to pick up GW2.
Still Number One
To add to what everyone has been saying, it is also very important to have EotN if you want to be able to play higher end pvp. For RA it is recommended but not necessary. For HA or GvG, you really do need it, because it has so many great skills in it that you are gimping yourself without it.
So not only does it have a great PvE experience, but if you plan to PvP you are at a disadvantage without it.

In my opinion, EoTN was one of the more exciting add-ons/expansions. I really liked this one because it was so different from the others. It just did not have the same feel as the others. I liked it though, it was a nice change. And there are always TONS of people doing the quests/mish's there.

Yes, go get it! In addition to the campaign there are good quests. Perhaps some new armor you will want. And there are dungeons, lots. You will not run out of optional challenges.
New monsters including dinosaurs that really act like dinosaurs! They will give you a real thrill, no doubt of it.
It is a tad harder, be prepared to get your ar*e handed to you now and again. But to balance things out, you get some PvE only skills that are worth having. Then there are the skills you get through the quest lines for each faction. Gwen will join your party and with mesmers buffed as they now are, you will find her useful now and again.
You need to be level 5 in each faction to get the armor, but if you do all the quests you are usually mostly there when you finish.
Lot of fun, really. Oh ... and do beware of the bunny rabbits. Not all are as harmless as they look!
