Check the discussion page on wiki, there's a lot of advice.
Best tip: Take swap, and move all the spirits away from Duncan.
I kept him Kd'd while heroes were flagged around him spamming RoJ and other dmg stuff.
Good luck!

I need hm duncan too for my hm dungeon book. Lmk if you want to try with my necro and heros too. No worries if you need to H/H it.

Key to Duncan is to swap spirits as stated above, but also to avoid spirit rifts. Be sure that you're either taking all the spirit rifts yourself, or you're entirely paying attention to when Duncan uses it so you can flag your henchmen out of it. This is most easily done if you don't have to deal all the damage(meaning you don't hav to be focusing on Duncan all the time), and if you're using the group flag instead of individual flags.
Beyond that, spiritway or EFGJack's hero team both steamroll Duncan very easily in HM. While forge is considerably more difficult than Duncan, the sub bosses don't have to be done in HM to get credit which makes it really easy.

Swap is a must, espically in HM, if your using a Necro, take Spinal Shivers, move all his spirits away from him, make sure all pop ups are popped, have your heros use cold damage weapons, cast it on him and go,
We did this in HM, getting to Duncan was actually harder than killing Duncan himself.

You're not bad if you can't H/H Duncan. Sure, it may mean that you're not good, but it doesn't mean that you're bad. Just take a look at the number of people in Seeking Services who need it.
Good luck

For Hard Mode, you need Protective Spirit on a hero - this is so you can micro it on yourself or whatever (as a physical you may want this on yourself all the time in hard areas).
For Slaver's Exile in HM, you probably want Frozen Soil (unless you can really blow up mobs very quickly).
For Duncan, you want Swap.
Those three things are what you need to do Duncan HM in the conventional manner, fitting those three things onto your and your heroes' skill bar is a good starting point.
Ritualist heroes are excellent additions to your team - as a physical they can provide extra damage using Splinter Weapon and Ancestor's Rage whilst providing a wall of spirits to divert and deal a lot of damage.
I try and take two Rit heroes these days, but if I really can't take both, I always take the SoS Channeling Rit. This hero can take on a hybrid role (Restoration Magic is useful, particularly Mend Body and Soul and PwK is decent) and can easily take Swap or Frozen Soil.
The second Rit I try and take is an offensive Communing Rit - this is a more focused hero but can still take Spirit to Flesh if you want more healing power on your midline. Again, this hero is a good candidate for Swap or Frozen Soil.
The third hero is a little bit more tricky. If you're trying to do this on a caster, then I recommend making it a Minion Master with Prot Spirit and Aegis - AotL, Bone minions and Death Nova are the minion skills. The rest is up to preference.
With a physical player character, I suggest either an ER Ele with the key prots and Strength of Honor or a Monk with a similar setup (maybe a Smiter-Prot hybrid).
Another hero that may interest you is a Mesmer hero with Panic or Psychic Instability. This is a little less effective at Necs, Monks or Eles for using Prot Spirit but it can take it and it provides very useful disruption that you may otherwise lack. Obviously you wouldn't take this if you've gone for a disruption build yourself (Fevered Dreams Mes or Nec, Panic or PI).
Good luck in your attempts. Don't worry if you still can't manage to push through it, many cannot. Remember to take your time; don't rush ahead and risk triggering a large pop-up when you're unprepared.

Do the 4 minor bosses in NM because they arent required in HM to verse duncan in HM.
In terms of versing duncan, just take it slow. Becareful to only pull one mob. Make sure that your team has frozen soil because the summit rez like fiends. Try and body block the first parts of their team, and get your team to drop their damage on them. Bring Pain Inverter for the Warders usually knocks them out in one skill. Make sure you have a Prot Spirit.
When you get to duncan, swap everything out of range. Then theres a slow but safe trick to killing duncan. If you put a necro at gap to the right of the stairs you can hit duncan, but not be hit by the upstairs spirits etc. Flag 1 hero there, flag the other heroes in healing range but not too close, and micro prot spirit on him. As yourself run up and die right next to duncan, and have the hero spam signet of sorrow on him all night long. Takes about 15 minutes in NM, so probably 20 in HM but its quite easy, and pretty much fool proof as long as the necro stays prot spirited.
Otherwise what everyone else said.

can close this one
managed it with 100b + 2 rit + 1 mm + mes/fire/monk/prot hench
was a piece of cake, not 1 whipe without cons.
only need to pull carefully
Marty: Done, PM me if you want this reopened

There's almost no reason to do that.
