New Laptop: bloatware, flashing, and more. (How?)

I'd be tempted to re-install the entire operating system again, making sure you have every driver safely stored for the entire computer somewhere (usb - external hard drive) before doing so, making re installation a breeze.

But then I like a totally clutter free laptop or desktop and I know the utter crap that comes bundled with newly bought computers - it's all trial software and extensively huge resource hogs.

Reinstall the OS (which should be fine) or try PC Decrapifier.

If you have an install disc for Windows and have the drivers all lined up, then a complete wipe and new installation is hands down the best way to go for you at this time.

I agree - reinstalling Win7 is the best option, and like others have said, make sure you have all the necessary drivers ready. It might not be necessary to actually have copies of the drivers on hand, if the network adapter works (after the initial install of Win7) and you can access the internet to get the drivers from the manufacturers website.

Doing a clean install of Windows won't void the warranty.

You shouldn't need to flash the BIOS unless a newer version corrects some problem you are having or adds features you want. But, in any case, many flashing apps give you the option to save the current BIOS before flashing. Also, most manufacturers websites will list the original BIOS as well as the new one(s). So, you can just run the flash app again using the original BIOS as the source file if you want to flash-back.

Hey, G73JH owner here. I suggest reinstalling windows to get rid of the bloatware. Otherwise, i would keep the wireless console, ATK software and power4gear hybrid. The rest, it is up to you to decide if you keep it or not.

As far as the bios goes, check what version you have. If you either have bios 209 or 211, then you do not need to update it. The difference between 209 and 211 is the fan speed settings.

Check this link for the various problems and fixes that may occur. Note that some of them only affect a few users. Somewhere in this link it explains how to update your bios with minimum risk. Be careful to use the steps to update the bios and not the vBios (video card bios).

EDIT: If you didn't buy it yet, then it will in all probability come with either bios 209 or 211. There's also a new model, the -B1 i think that comes with the 740QM instead of the 720QM so you could get one with better performance. Otherwise, you can wait for the G73JW or G53 (the 15" version) that will both come with the GTX460M if you prefer nVidia over ATI.

EDIT: There's now a fix for the dead kb lights issue and a fix for owners having the GSODs in the form of a new video bios.
