READ ME FIRST: Comprehensive Hall of Monuments Guide

Nah, what I mean is, without checking the calculator, if I had 30/50 HoM done in GW1, then went to the calculator and checked a character, would it show 33/50 completed?

Therefore, would only 47/50 need to be done to get the full 50/50 done.

Sorry if I'm not making any sense, I haven't played GW1 since when it first came out. Just wondering if this is how it would work.

It may sound a bit rude but, why don't you just go to hom.guildwars2.com type your IGN and see your points?
The number there is what you have and that is it, no need to over-think and complicate it.

But just to try to make a bit more clear, the statues you have in the Hall of Monuments doesn't necessary counts as 1 point, for example if you have 4 heroes in your fellowship monument you'll have only 1 point in the HoM.

Because, as I stated, I don't play. I have the game but no character with any HoM stuff.

Thinking about it to get all the GW2 rewards though. Just curious if 47/50 is the max that would be needed to go to.

So how does it work then? 50/50 in the calculator means you have fully completed the HoM stuff? Or do you only need to do a certain amount to fill the calculator out.

This is correct. You gain points for meeting certain goals in your Hall of Monuments in the game. You do not have to do everything possible to meet all the goals. (You do not have to add every possible weapon, every possible armor set, every possible title, or every possible miniature. You do have to add every possible hero and pet statue, though.)

(I think this is all explained pretty well at the wiki, and the calculator is also pretty self-explanatory. I mean, play around with the resilience or valor or honor sections for very long and you'll see that you don't have to do everything to get all the possible points.)

Edit: Maybe the confusion is about where the point count comes from. It's entirely outside the game. It's just the calculator page. There is no counter for points in the game itself. There are just things you do in the game, which then count for points on a website.

Yeah, as stated the "points" in game isn't the same as in the calculator.
BTW, it is totally possible to reach 30/50 in the HoM starting from a new account in about 3~4 months, so you can still get all the items before GW2 launch (I doubt it will be released before June)

Hi, I'm sorry if this has been answered before. I googled and searched here and found nothing. I don't understand how to get 15 statues when only 11 are displayed. I assume it has something to do with the extra types of bows, but I"m not sure.

I have 10 now (5 destroyer and 5 oppressor) and I saving the last spot on display for a tormented weapon, but where do I get the last 4? I tried to get a different type of bow (destroyer longbow vs destroyer shortbow, but it won't let me display it) Gonna have to trade that bow away

What am I doing wrong?

Although you can only display 11, you can put in as many weapons as there are categories (i.e, one sword/axe/hammer/shield/staff/focus/offhand/spear/scythe/dagger/bow of each of destroyer/oppressor/tormented). So you can essentially forget about what's on display; it doesn't affect anything. If you've done any of the other monuments (particularly the hero/pet one) you'll see that you can only display so many at a time but you'll be able to put in a lot more.

PS: You can add something to your HoM if (and only if) it's displayed in the unobtained items listing on the side of the HoM calculator. You'll notice that 'Destroyer Bow' has only one listing; it's not 'Destroyer Flatbow', 'Destroyer Shortbow' and so on. One destroyer bow counts for all of them, as you've found. Thus, even though the display will only show 11 at any one time, you'll be able to put in a maximum of 33 items (11 items x 3 item types).

Ok thanks. So I should take one of the 11 types that I already have in destroyer form and get an oppressor of the same kind, or vice versa. My mistake was getting 2 destroyer bows. I guess 1 destroyer and 1 oppressor would have been ok.

I get it now. And now I get to see if anyone on gwauctions wants a Destroyer Shortbow

18/50 in HoM..just came back from a 4-5 year hiatus. Worth it to try and go for 30/50 or nah?

aka; is it going to take me epic time to get these last 12? And thats just what my calculator told me..so I'm guessing the calculator DOES NOT factor in the +3 for accounts being linked? (or so I'm reading?)

I have read guides that seem to imply that I should create a Ritualist and conquer the World. I have all the campaigns on my GW1 account (Proph, Factions and NF) and I just added the EotN expansion. So I'm assessing my Characters and I have the following:

Starting over with my Ritualist seems like a lot of lost progress. Logically, I would just continue with my Warrior that has explored 97% of Tyria. Any ideas are welcome?

Presumably people recommend Ritualist because spirit spam builds can be played effectively even if you have a grand total of two brain cells. They would be useful for farming, but other professions can farm too, both with their own builds and spirit spammer adaptations. They're absolutely non-essential to efficient HoM point collecting. Realise that many people (you, perhaps) get GW1 solely for the purposes of getting HoM points for GW2 and want to get it done with as little fuss as possible. If that's the case then brainless efficiency is what you're looking for, but for people who are actually willing to immerse themselves into what GW1 actually is, you won't have issues regarding profession choice. As such, if you've made significant progress with other characters I don't see a need to switch. With seven hero parties and the massive amount of power creep that has occurred you don't need to worry about playing a weak profession.

My recommendation is to go with whichever character you enjoy the most. You're going to be playing them for a significant amount of time so if you pick a profession you don't like because somebody on the internet told you it was better you're going to end up bored/frustrated/whatever, and if you don't play you make less progress than you would have with a "bad" profession.

Random advice: join a guild if you haven't. The game may seem empty outside of a few select areas, but a lot of that is because people are in explorables with hero teams rather than standing around. Being in a guild will help connect you to people.

I'm here partly for HoM, but I needed a break from GW2 and to revisit my old Characters and have some fun again. With a secondary, I have a lot of flexibility. Will look for a Guild. Thanks for all your suggestions!
