laptop that will "probably" run GW2

I really need advice on buying a laptop that will run gw2. For the past year, i have blown all of my money on movies, food, and videogames, but want to start saving up for a gaming pc. I was hoping that one of you fellow nerds have already figured out what is the best laptop for the money.

Do you have a rough idea of budget, or just the cheapest that will run GW2 with decent FPS and medium settings?

If you want a gaming notebook, expect to dump around $1500 on it. Other than that, until we have a budget, we can't make specific recommendations.

I wouldn't say that there's one laptop that will come above all the others in terms of price/performance. There are however a couple of them that always offer great hardware for their price.

As an example:

I'd take a look at the clevos, ASUS G73 and G53, the MSI GT and GX series to name a few and avoid alienware.

I would say my budget is around 800 - 1,250.

Avoid gaming laptops unless you don't have room for a desktop. Even the most expensive will eventually overheat leaving you with an expensive paperweight.

Here's an example of a laptop that would meet your needs and comes in at $1000 --- not saying it's the best out there, but it would be a heck of a laptop and ought to handle GW2 with ease at high or even max settings....

That always depends on how you take care of them and their thermal design. My 5 yrs old lappy is still alive and kicking...

At your budget, you can get something great. The one suggested by elder should blow through most recent games at it's native resolution.

One last question, any particular reason why you want a laptop. A desktop would give a lot more performance for your budget.

I wanted a laptop so i can do school work, play gw when i am not at home.

In regards to that, then go for it. Besides it's easier to bring a laptop at lans that to setup a desktop . Either go with the N61 or check the other deals at newegg.com.

You could check the best buy version of the asus G73, it should be at the upper limit of your budget, though i warn you that one is HUGE.

Something previously suggested was to get a really cheap net-book for school and a desktop for gaming purposes, not sure how viable that is as I didn't see the end of their thread.

It is viable as long as you don't need portability for your gaming rig. If you plan to be on the move often but want to game, a laptop is the best option. I your gaming purposes don't need portability, desktop all the way!

Why would you want to game in the train,bus or school?

Get a desktop nuff said and for lanpartys get a mini atx shuttle system

I've got a UL30A with a GMA4500HD. I was surprised to see how well it runs GW (albeit in low settings). Credit to the game, and how well it scales with hardware. Runs better and more consistent than Titan Quest, in fact.

I hope GW2 will achieve a similar goal, although I wouldn't expect it to run on Intel integrated graphics. Hopefully, AMD Llano (the new AMD fusion processors targeted at mobility notebooks and netbooks) will be up to the job. It's after all, a DX11 capable processor.

Sometimes, I quite like to slob around, and playing on the notebook. Can't do that with the desktop. And gaming laptops (MSI GX660 / GX740) are quite capable, and also GW2 should scale well anyway.

For my money, a MSI GX is good value for money (under £1000). If you want a 'proper' gaming laptop, anything with a HD 5870 Mobility / GTX 460M. Basically class 1 graphics (look at the notebookcheck site for graphics card comparisons).

Processors like a i5 are fine really. I don't think any game would max those already. But a i7 quad core has more power for sure.

However for GW and GW2, You could get away with a medium-class laptop, like the Toshiba L650 pro and a HD 5650 (around £600), or even a Asus 3810TZG wiht a HD4330 (around £400), for low-medium settings.

It depends the budget you have. It's difficult to say about GW2 though, since it's not out yet. But I'll definitely give it a go on my crappy CULV notebook and see what happens.
