what's the story behind the tengu ? i only remember seeing them in the beginning of factions for a couple quests are we gonna see any of them in gw2 or are they just being brushed off i haven't played in a while but i don't think they had any role in anything other than just disappearing after leaving the beginning of factions.

The Tengu is a race of bird-human hybrid. They are found in Prophecies, Factions and Eye of the North.
There are quite a few categories (tribes, if you will) of tengu. The one you are talking about is known as the Angchu. They are friendly Tengu, such as Talon Silverwing. They are the main Tengu tribe in the factions campaign, though Talon is the only one you find off of Shing Jea Island. There is are two other tribes of Tengu in the factions campaign, the Sensali and the Star Tengu. The Sensali are the hostile Tengu on Shing jea Island, the Star Tengu are the hostile tribe that you encounter in the Nahui Quarter mission.
There 3 other tribes of Tengu that are scattered throughout the Prophecies and Eye of the North campaigns. These are the Caromi, Avacara, and Quetzal tribes.
The Tengu do play a role in the lore of GW: Factions, which you can play through as Master Togo if you have the Bonus Mission pack. The mission will show you that the tengu actually play a very major part in GW history.

Given the title, I half-expected the OP to start off their post with a picture of Seinfeld.
I think there were enough tribes of tengu around in Tyria that we won't be missing them in GW2. They obviously aren't one of the larger groups still around, but I feel like if they had been totally wiped off of the face of the continent, much like how the dwarves essentially became extinct when they all were turned into stone guardians, then we would have heard something about it.

They've been superseded by the Elevengu.
