Destruction spirit
Asrai
I have seen this skill in several builds and I have tried it repeatedly without much success. The damage advertised sounds good, but the problem appears to be that the AOE is fairly small... it doesn't seem to reach as far as my wand for example, and two, the spirit is usually still standing after the fight is over. It's like all the mobs are dead, now lets all go stand around destruction and watch him blow up :/ (I had him in slot 1 so he was always the first cast)
I'm guessing that he is really more applicable to large crowd control or mobs that take awhile to kill, and not a skill that you would load as your standard rt template... otherwise this skill seems like wasting a skill slot. Am I correct or am I not using him properly ? tia

Haggis of Doom
Try skills that destroy spirits. Gaze of Fury, for instance.

Ah... there's the catch. I only have the prophesies and factions campaigns atm. Actually, if I had the other campaigns I'd use the slot for agony or vampirism...
My current build is:
Signet of Spirits
Pain
Bloodsong
Shadowsong
Dissonance
Armor of Unfeeling
Painful Bond
Spirit Boon Strike
I wasn't using dissonance when I had destruction loaded, diss takes more energy than I like to give, but over all has been much better to me than destruction.

Ruptured soul is a great follow skill for destruction i used to use it when feather farming
Spell. Destroys target allied spirit. Deals 50...122...140 lightning damage and inflicts Blindness condition (3...10...12 seconds) to nearby foes.
1) cast destruction
2) pull mob close to spirit or use SS to shadow step the spirit to location
3) cast spirit rift (or prefered AoE skill)
4) when u see spirit rift about to explode cast Ruptured soul on destruction if done right and in a timely manner this is an easy (depending on foe) but an easy ~350-450 spike
youll have spirit rift dmg plus destruction dmg plus ruptured soul dmg and as a bonus you inflict cracked armor and blindness ^^

I missed that one somehow, thanks
Is there a quick way to target destruction or do you just keep him out of the spirit clump so he's easy to find ?

Press Alt and try to search the name.

It pains me so to always see ppl running the channeling/communing split.

Tbh Destruction kinda sucks when you don't specialize your build in the way the dmg is dealt. I'm talking about the minor aoe
Rt/A
DWG>Destruction>Target Destruction and walk to mob>Swap (autodrops DWG)>pop Rupture Soul
Whats even better if you equip By Ural's Hammer and I Am The Strongest ;p

I'd suggest taking Draw Spirit and Rupture soul, combined with DWG it can be really powerful.

Swap is a fun and gimmicky yet fairly effective option as well. Set up your spirit outside of battle, run in with a DwG or GwK (I prefer the latter as it makes for a better chance of spirit rift hitting). Cast Spirit Rift, run adjacent to the targets and swap out to your spirit, immediately casting Rupture soul afterwards. This can do a ton of AoE damage (especially with BuH). As an added bonus, when shadowstepping, any items held automatically drop so you don't have to manually drop your DwG or GwK.

It's a pretty awful skill. I've got a silly build that uses Soul Twisting and Rupture to try to move the DPS along, but at that point you've dedicated so much of your bar to PBAoE that you're really just a weirdo glaive clone with a bit of utility.

What I'm wondering is how good are heroes with this rupture soul? Anyone with some experience? Will they blow up the closest spirit at random? Destruction when there are x amount of enemies around? Any spirit when there are enemies around?
jcegt87
heros are awful with destruction ..and they will not activate ruptured soul on destruction
the reason they are so bad is because they cast the spirits way back meanwhile the fight is about 10 paces up so even if destruction goes off it doesnt hit anything unless you managed to move the mob closer to it

I wouldn't say there's anything fundamentally wrong with running a Channeling/Communing split like there is with, say, Monks with Fire Magic. It's just generally better to run with a dedicated Channeling Rit and a dedicated Communing Rit if you can. There are lots of good/decent skills in each line and you might as well split them up to get more use out of the attributes. This isn't going to happen though because you don't have Nightfall or EotN. I don't think you should worry about it too much. Sure, it's not optimal (though I would tweak it), but if you're happy with it it's fine.
PS: Unless you're running a purely caster based team, anyone with points in Channeling should have Splinter Weapon stapled to their bar. It's massively powerful.

Thanks Marty. About the only thing on my bar is either channeling or communing and both are max'ed as far as attribute points go (which left just a few left over I stuck in summoning). My build seems to deal a good bit of damage, the drawback is defense... I have to make a conscience effort to pull 'gently' to my spirits so they will take the hits. Its obviously not a pvp build, but for pve, it's been pretty successful. I look forward to some the healing spirits when I get the next campaign. I'll check out splinter weapon, thanks.
Essence Snow
Agree 100% with Marty.....If one has channeling and a melee in the group, they should have splinter weapon. It provides too much dmg to pass up. As a primary rit plz don't neglect spawning power. Look here for a breakdown on how spawning affects spirits.
