Hero battles removed, wtf
Archedgar
I registered on this site a long time ago and I recently came back to Guild Wars to see how things had changed in my absence.
I played some matches in RA and then decided to check out my old stomping grounds and much to my extreme chagrin
THEY WERE REMOVED ENTIRELY
What the @#*&#$%
Is this what I should expect from Guild Wars 2? developer laziness? I did a search and the most recent topic about this was closed because of what I perceived as too much (out)rage by everyone who commented.
So, is there anyone who knows what the real reason for the total removal of one of the games' best modes was?

Apart from the fact that it was impossible to balance?
Anyways... I expect this to be closed shortly too.

I remember purchasing Nightfall years ago and being excited at playing the new arena. I can't even begin to understand why they'd remove it. "Balance" is not an answer, there were tournaments where very different builds were ran by players that resulted in even matches.

Well that's always a good answer. Except for the part where it isn't.

because everyone resigned in hero battles if they were red to farm zaishen quest and commander points... and it wasn't worth fixing
BlackSephir
It was a bad format.
Bad things go away.
You really hate GW, don't you?

It was exploited by Zaishen Combat on HB days for massive ZKey farming.

Wow, you've been gone for quite some time! Also, Anet's simple solution to a complex problem:
Missing HB
This thread going to be closed fast anyway , once again all people who never even went there are arguing here...
Well , real reason is that it was unfixable( and not resigns , RR , which happened after it was announced !!) and that they wanted to do some sealed deck arena .
However , what i don't get is that if they really don't care of PvP , why did they delete it and add codex arena seriously .....
But yes , what you can just expect from GW 2 imo is just that it will be a great game for PvE part with no doubt , but for PvP .. well emrm.. i suggest not to buy it only for pvp ....
off topic : is there a reason 3/4 of henchmen contest winners are in [ZoS]?

Oh? It has a major selling point(according to the advertising) of the Nightfall expansion.
In fact I remember it being "THE" selling point aside from the Dervish and Paragon classes. I wager to say that Arena net and NC soft completely forgot the original idea behind Guild Wars.
It was built from the ground up as a PvP game, but it seems they forgot about that and turned it into some lame PvE game since they completely closed my two favorite arenas for no real reason.
I hope this person isn't right, but he probably is.
Sigh. Stupid developers losing sight of what really matters.

Lol, it's this guy again.

lol, hero battles could be fixed easily. that was the main reason it was removed. unbalanced, unfair, very easy to out cap with certain build which just relied on you not taking any dmg. tbh, i do miss hero battles a little, but codex arena was definatly a better add on to the game imo.

The great thing about hero battles was that you didnt have to form a party to have a game, which allowed you to get into matches faster. With codex you have to form a party and the outpost if pretty empty unless it is a quest day.

HB was like RA without the scrubs on your team. Admittedly it was slightly different because it was cap rather then a death match, but still very much like RA interms of quick to set up, fun and relatively easy.
Im all for bringing it back, I was very disappointed at removing it. Remove the title, and remove the Z-Combat quest and youve got a good arena, that noones going to waste time red resigning on because they gain nothing from it.

Ah Hero Battles.
I can't even count the times I've been called a noob for not resigning when I was red. Turns out most people didn't even have builds loaded onto their heroes cuz they expected each match to end with someone resigning within the first 5 seconds. I won a lot.

I enjoyed them for a while, got pretty decent, did well in some daily ATs a few times, and of course abused RR when it was there. Actually, I had a lot of fun on HBZC days just playing people (my rank was high enough I got a lot of actual games) and only did RR the last two or three times it was available.
Having established that, it was a totally broken format. I played an aggressive spiker bar with meta R/P heroes. I would usually beat teams comprised of cappers since they couldn't outdamage my heroes and I could usually sneak several kills in, and that seemed to be one of the more popular hero lineups (the E/D's with Dervish defense, RoJ Dervs with a bunch of defense). I would always lose to capper bars though (Shadow Meld/Recall) that just kited and outcapped. In the end, what fun is that.
The removal was also part of the overall initiative to remove heroes from PvP. HA suffered from the same abusable AI issues because hero Mesmers are impeccable at interrupting and removing enchantments. That's what HB came down to almost entirely: abusing hero AI in one way or another.
My suggestion: don't bring back HB, but the maps could be brought back. Implement a 4 man, all human team. Make killing worth more than capping (capping can still produce points, but the battle should be the focus with perhaps a capper split option). Even this would be abusable though, and meta teams would arise where it was RPS all over again. But anything is better than Codex in my opinion. And what ruined Codex was (once again) the /rank discrimination.

Anyway , i don't believe , due to HoM rewards , that enough people would care of anything in PvP now ...;

Get over it. Or actually search the forum before you post a thread.
Anyway, there's no new discussion here. If you'd like to rehash old, ridiculous arguments, feel free to pm each other.
