Will I Be Able To Fill My HoM From Scratch Before GW2?
Testoviron
I started playing Guild Wars when it first came out years ago & loved it. I played an Elementalist & managed to pretty much fill up my Hall of Monuments, with special accomplishments & expensive FoW gear etc.
Around a year & a half ago I stopped playing and took a break from gaming for a while. I decided to start playing again around 2 months ago but for the life of me I couldn't remember my login details. Believe me when I say I've tried everything to try & get my details back & have contacted PlayNC numerous times, but unfortunately they were unable to help me out.
As GW2 is coming out soon, I've been thinking about buying "Guild Wars: The Complete Collection" which includes all the games and is very cheap at the moment (£14.99). I want my Hall of Monuments accomplishments to be in GW2, but unfortunately due to the fact that I can't remember my login details, that won't be happening with my old account, so I was thinking of starting all over again from scratch.
I'm just curious though, do you guys think it'd be worth it to start all over again & try to fill up as much of my HoM as possible before GW2, and also do you think I'd have enough time if I were to start within the next week or so, to start filling up my HoM in time for GW2?
If you think it's a little too late now, then I may have to just leave it and wait until GW2 comes out & play it without all my GW1 HoM accomplishments but if you think I've got time, then I'll give it a shot.
Thanks guys.

How much time do you have to play GW now? I think it's doable even as a relatively casual player. A few hours a session a couple times a week and you could manage it easily, imho. Not that I'll have a full HoM anyway. That's not why I play GW.

Filling it is unnessesary I mean really all you get after 30 is titles. 30 you should have no problem getting to in a few months of work. The hardest part will probably be minis :\
50/50 might be a bit more difficult but still do-able if you work at it. Esspecially since we have no solid release date for gw2

You don't need a full hall to get rewards.
We don't know a release date for GW2 and as far as we can tell its at least another year (yes I want to hopeful but this guy deserves a reasonable answer).
It would be more than easy to get at minimum 20 points, as it take no work at all for those first twenty. You'll get them simply from playing through.
20 to 30 points is slightly more difficult though. It could take a little time, but not much if you are dedicated. And theres no real reason to go past 30 points since after that you stop getting item rewards and they are just titles.

Are they retroactive? If I play and meet whatever requirements for the hall BEFORE I get to install EotN will they apply instantly?
Just curious.

Though the character that has met the requirement needs to get to the Hall of Monuments and place the appropriate monument to be credited.
EDIT: Forgot about the Elite Mission statues. Those you will need to redo.

Here is a link to the wiki page for the Hall of Monuments which contains all the information we have on it. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Hall_of_Monuments
And here is a link to a great guide by Sky Marin for getting the points required for the rewards. http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/q...t10454314.html
You will gain most of the easier ones just by playing the game.

You will be able to display any statues you have earned for the Honor monument instantly, as soon as you arrive in the HoM. Other items (armor sets, weapons, minis, etc.) can be displayed as soon as you have hung a tapestry on the associated monument. Tapestries are earned as you play through the EotN story, or they can be purchased from other players.

Cool thanks, I just ordered EotN from Newegg for cheaps and it wont be here for a week, so I wanted to be sure of what I was going to need to do

Getting 30 points in your HoM is very easy. This is coming from someone who absolutely hates titles and grinding them.
novawhiz
if you already have experience in guild wars then youll get 30/50 or 50/50 easily before guild wars comes out. For most casual players it takes ~1 year to get GWAM, but someone like you could easily get it in less. (i cant see gw2 coming out any sooner than a year from now).
But you shouldnt play gw again just to get a Max HoM, which in itself has no use except to get more titles + status epeen stuff.
If you miss guild wars and wanna come back then buy the game again, if all you want is a jellyfish for gw2 then i wouldnt recommend it

Many thanks for the replies guys, that's great.
Although, you've said I get special rewards in GW2, if I start filling up my GW1 HoM. I never knew that. I thought all the HoM was for was to show you your accomplishments in GW1.
What rewards do we get exactly, based on how much of our HoM we've filled up? Is it game breaking stuff that will make us stronger in GW2 or is it just for show, like titles etc?

if you put your character name in there you can see what you have done already, and if you click on the sliding scale you can see what rewards are for each amount of points you have.
I just started a 2ndary mule account (while I do have access to a bunch of minis--) I have already gotten to 10/50 so it is very feasible to get to the highest reward level (30) in the time before gw2 comes out (especially since we still have no date for its release--so its months, if not a year away at this point).
(after 30 the rewards are just titles).....

If you enjoy being bored 50/50 takes no time.
If you are a human being it will take a while.
This said, you can easily get full HoM before GW2.

imo force one of your friends to get gw too and play through it with him.
i cant imagine starting all over and getting to 50/50 by yourself would be that enjoyable.

If you are starting from scratch, that is, with 8 empty character slots, first, make what you feel will be your main character in whatever campaign you desire. I would then create up to 6 or 7 other characters in either Factions and or Nightfall. Just create and play far enough to gain enough gold to access to your storage. These characters will each generate a free mini in a year. Can't hardly beat free minis. You will pick up some bargain minis as you play. You can always delete one character should you decide to try that or another profession in a different campaign.

Don't forget you will need tapestries to be placed on the HOM panels before you can put the accomplishments in. And they come after finishing the GW:EN missions I believe. So to start your HOM up you also need to do EotN....

sure just buy some guys account and youll have it tomorrow as long as hes 50/50 then change names and whatever else you like.

Holy crap? I really don't understand how all of you guys are saying 30 points is easy? How is it so easy?
I have like 9/50 right now and I've "gone through" the games, and 4 of my 9 are from the minis...
Getting elite armor seems like a ridiculously long and boring task. All those rare materials, how are you guys getting them all? They are so difficult to find, or so expensive to buy, so armor is out for "being easy".
All the titles are obnoxious, I can't even imagine exploring the entire map, that is like the most boring thing I can think of. Hard mode in EVERY zone? BLARG. Doing every campaign over again in Hard Mode? These are all terrible tasks and are NOT "easy".
Same as armor, the weapons, it CANNOT be "easy", let alone fun at all, to grind after any of that.
I don't mean to sound like a whiner or anything, but how can you guys say all of this stuff is "easy".
30/50 seems impossible from where I'm sitting.

But really getting to 30 is not that hard, just like Vanquish every area is not that hard with maybe an exception for certain annoying areas.
If you dont like doing all of those things it will not get you to your 30/50.
Maybe a stupid thing to ask, but what do you like to do in the game?

Hah, I don't know, I enjoyed going through the stories and building up different characters...
I would put in the effort to go after some of these tasks, but I really haven't the faintest idea how to. I have no idea how all these people are building all this elite armor, seems like the most painstakingly long and boring ordeal... I guess it all boils down to gold, and I never have much of it, nor do I know how so many people are getting so much.
I guess the other hard part is, I don't know how to run all the crazy areas in the game, and I don't personally know anyone that plays, so I'm often stuck by myself with the bots.

To do it all from scratch... is going to take a looong time.
-you need to learn to play the game, which means getting all the heroes, all their skills (which means either unlocking them with faction or buying them, and just 3 unique builds will cost you 8x3x1000 gold for the skills alone. That's 24000 gold for a STARTING character - you don't do speed clears as a new character. The PvE skills will take an hour per, averaging out, and so on.
-you need to do all the missions. Assuming half an hour per mission (with many needing a whole hour to get the bonus, remember), you're looking a 50ish missions
-guardians, do it again - in HM. At least as much time, much more likely more.
-maxing out Lightbringer/Sunspear will probably have you doing the Salahja runs... for 500-1000 LBPP per run. And 15 mins per run.
-maxing out the EotN titles is "fast". A full NM mission book will yield 20k faction - and take 4 hours to fill out. And after 4 you'll need to go Hard mode. And 160000 is the max for the title. That's 4 NM + 3 full HM books. For ONE title. You can speed it up by grinding just three shortest missions, earning say 3k per half hour.
-elite skill hunting will mean 294 skills to cap. Say you only need half an hour to get to the boss... and say you earn as much from drops as you waste on signets of capture... and you get a lot of time spent. Remember - you can only cap skills of your own professions, and bosses are quite nicely spaced over so you rarely cap two per session. Oh, and you'll HATE tyrian random spawning bosses. Especially the 6 that only spawn in Mineral springs, where you need to cross two maps to even reach them...
And everything more takes even longer. For example, I have 10 caharacters, all of them triple protectors... and I don't think I got past 2000 opened chests and gold items identified. I've got 42 points so far.
Soon, someone will point out the wonders of titles that you can buy... except you A) need to earn the money to buy sweets/party items/booze B) need to find sellers that don't gouge the prices c) need to actually use them, which will be a problem with tonics and booze. Oh, and a million gold per title... it's NOT earned quite as fast as some think. Especially for people who play, say, 2h per day.
No, it's not fast, and it's not easy. It is in RETROSPECT - you forget how much you cursed the last boss you had to find in mineral springs on your 4th trip there. You forget how long it took you to earn all that money you spent on the armors. And so on and on.

I've also never done ANY of the elite dungeons. So getting through UW, FoW, DoA, etc. will get me that many more trophies. I want to do them though, not for the HoM. Just because it's part of the game I'm interested in.

But redoing all the missions in HM for Guardian title? Yeah, I'll admit, I like that idea. So it's not grinding to me. It's fun. Which makes it seem easier.

You're not whining. I think people who play a whole lot, some of the more hard core players, understate the challenge. I wouldn't say easy. But I would say not hard. And fun. So what the hey! Just play and have fun. If you make it to 30/50 or even 50/50, good for you! If not, did you still have fun? If so, mission accomplished.

"Easy" is a relative term. My goal is 30 and I'm at 23 right now. I'm getting my fifth year minis, so that tells you how long I've been playing with only brief breaks to play other games.
I'm at 31 minis without buying any and giving many away to guildies. 6 points, no effort.
Just playing through the game you accumulate pets and heroes. Before the HoM calculator came along I was just giving my heroes the armor upgrades as desired, so have duplicates. I recently charmed the Phoenix then leveled it up with farmed balthazar faction. I'm at 6 points, no real effort.
I'm neither a grinder nor a farmer. I have the titles that I've acquired just from playing the games: no vanquishing, no cartographer, etc. 10 statues, 9 points, just playing the game. I have completed places like FoW and UW with the guild.
For armor, I'm at 2/8, just because I liked some of the elite armor and bought it. Right now I am doing some grinding, earning Jade through L-faction to get an elite luxon armor for my monk. I could get elite kurzick armor right now, but don't like any of them. After that, I'll do quests for rubies and sapphires for elite vabbi armor for my dervish, again because I want that set of armor and it adds to my HoM. Add one "regular" elite armor and I will be at 7 points. This is some effort and takes time away from what I might be doing otherwise.
I have no weapons in my HoM and only just started doing the War in Kryta.
I am also farming the zaishen challenge for 2000 faction on multiple accounts. It'll take me about 2 months, at maybe 25 minutes per day (running it twice), but I'll have the 3 point PvP title without buying any keys. That plus the armor sets will put me over 30 points.
Most of my gold nowadays comes from farming in pre-sear for gifts, (plus the gifts collected in post) then moving the gifts to post, opening them and selling the party, sweet, and booze. I'll easily get 200k-300k a pop doing that.
Take a good look at the HoM calculator and set some realistic goals. Play through the entire game on one character. Do something to earn money just for lockpicks, then open every chest for a chance at something useful and lucky/unlucky points. 30/50 really isn't too hard and doesn't require endless grind, just some time and focus.

its not easy and not going to be handed to you....having multiple characters does help so that you are doing things with different ones (also helps on getting armor...if you have say 6 characters and get one set of elite--you have that monument filled....and if one was kurzick and one was vabbian...you have 2 more points, etc).... I had to work to save up for my armors, I made sure to pick up all drops and not to spend --used the kourman coins, luxon totems etc for id kits/salvage kits ....
some of the things are just playing the game and making sure you finish things--like getting masters/bonus on missions....while you play cap skills of your professions ....
getting hero armor: do the challenge missions (dajkat and the remains are pretty easy to get a few pieces and taking the right heroes with you will get you the nexus)....you dont have to get all of them!
minis....most of us have had our accounts for sometime, thus accumulating yearly birthday minis, yes some are duplicates, but outside of the sty of wallows I have gotten a fair amount of the others as well.....
for the titles--not all of them require max level and some are quite buyable (or if you do nic gifts you can trade the alcohol for the party points and sweets, clicking a whole lot of times is easier than 6 days of 'drinking')....or play when special items drop--we have 2 major ones coming up--halloween and wintersday.
remember you dont have to get 50/50 to enjoy most of the 'reward' since only title exist after 30---so make a list of which things you think you can accomplish (and give you points for doing them)...and you will see that you are quite far along if you just stick to that.

@OP HoM is not that bad. It depends on your skill level in the game, amount of time you can play, and when GW2 actually releases. I say you have a good 6-8 months. If you can devote a couple hours a day for that period and have descent skills in the game you should be fine. To get a full 50 in that time, you better have more time and good money making skills.
@stooz getting 30/50 is easy there is nothing hard about it. However easy is a relative term. You have to remember this game has been out for a while. Even those like myself that quite for a few years, that are now back, played for some time before leaving. If you just play the game missions, HM etc you can get pretty close to 30 w/o even trying. It does take time. IF you are working towards 50/50 it takes alot more time. Hard never really factors in unless you are short of time. The less time you have the harder you have to work to be efficent, and make money to buy things to help you make your goal. To me your problem seems to be not having a good guild. If you are playing with bots all the time have little xp in HM, and have not done elite areas go join a guild and you will have fun learning so much more the game has to offer not to mention get to 30/50 pretty quick.

The tasks themselves to get 30 are easy, but it isnt an overnight thing. It'll take probably 3-6 months. Could be less, but for most I'd say this is correct. Theres plenty of things everyone can get easily. Only if you want a full 50 does it become grindy, e.g. 40 titles, obsidian, 50 minis.
The way I'd do it is - one of the lux/kurz. Only need to earn 200k, which is 400k on your title. Plenty of double weekends too. You could also use this as a chance to get some jade or amber for your faction armor, although it will slow the title a little. In addition, if you do cantha hm (noted just below), its a 120k rep book.
All 3 campaigns, + leg guardian. 10 "titles". The HM stuff can be done via zquest pugs, and is a nice source of cash as its 1k or so per quest, + mission reward and you can trade your zcoins for things like bags which sell for a nice amount.
Sorrows furnace, FoW, urgoz and the deep. The latter two are zquests. Fow can be done rather easily 2man with 6heroes. Sorrows is very easy with henchman, although the last quest is annoying. The coming full hero party update will make these more accessible too. This will also mean 15 titles on your honor statue and 10 points of your thirty.
---
Get all 30 hero armors/pets. These can all be played to. If you really dont want to, you can skip, buy a few, though I'd save your cash for armors. Another 8 points, bringing us to 18.
---
Play EotN a bit, try and get r5 in two of the titles. A story book will secure you one of these. This allows you to get the two of the cheapest elite sets, and it makes you play some of the pretty nice dungeons (save your diamonds and onyx!). Do these via zquests if they prove too challenging. Then use the cash from leg guardian to get 2 sets (80k+mats), and get a factions set (60k+mats). Probably around 170k inc mats, which should be largely funded by leg guardian and playing the game over the past months/years, provided you have wasted money on pointless things. This gives an extra 4 points. 22 in total.

Weapons. Play WiK for an oppressor weapon. Then, using those onyx and diamonds that the dunegons (cruelly?) rewarded you, craft a destroyer weapon. Another 3 points, taking us to 25.
---
Minis. I'd wait for these to drop in price more before considering buying any. First, do the mini moa quest for a greenie, buy/get lucky and recieve a gold pet. That takes us to 28. For the final two points - wait it out/ get some cheap white minis to make 20 and take us to 30 points. Prices will fall in a month or so, and there'll be thousands of wallows, whiptails et al.

First off, it's hard to get the Destroyer weapons and Vabbian armor right now because of material prices. But those should stabalize before release...
If I were just starting off, I would work on the easy things first:
Just completing a campaign (not even the bonus!) gives you a state: Hero of ____.
So, that's 3 statues.
Then, completing the Bonus on each mission will get you another statue. Doing it in hard mode (not that hard with heroes or if you group with people during Zaishen Bounties... that's how I finished hard mode) will net you 4 more statues. (+1 for Guardian Title)
Vanquishing is not what I would call "easy": it's time consuming, it can be frustrating to find every mob, some areas are super tough. The advantage of Vanquishing is it gives you gold AND Faction/Sunspear/Lightbringer points in the appropriate area. I highly suggest downloading the Map Text Mod: http://www.mediafire.com/?k50zdqnehwn for easy Cartographer Title while Vanquishing.

(Here's a video explaining the very basics: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94UKg...eature=related)
Very useful to download this BEFORE you start Vanquishing, as it's easy to clear areas when everything is dead... much harder to go do this later.
BUT, even though Vanquishing takes time, it is worth it, because you get Two things you need: GOLD and POINTS for Other Titles (except Tyria). (Not to mention the drops).
BTW, all this stuff is going to get a LOT easier, because we're gonna get 7 Heroes allowed in the near future...
Again: This stuff is totally optional. But if you want to play GW, and you want to get rewards for GW2, there is no reason not to start working on Titles. It may seem impossible when staring at a 3 pt Reward Calculator, but the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step... and as you start earning those points, it will get easier and easier.
Good luck and have fun!

You guys are making me feel a lot better about all of this... I fully intend to give a lot of these goals a go.
Thanks for all encouragement and helpful tips, we'll see how I end up.
Yah, the guild thing is tough... Back in the day I started a guild with like 10 of my friends that played the game with me. Over time they all dropped out for various reasons, and even with all this excitement, they have no intention of coming back.
So I'm sitting in a guild by myself.
I try to be social in town but the chat is exploding with text that seems like it's coming from robots, people advertising guilds with terms I can't even imagine what they mean.
I'd better get in-game and get movin' on some of these goals.

sTo0z,
I have been playing GW only for about 1.3 years. So I do not have lots of minis or money on my account.
Here is what I did first:
Finished the three campaigns = 3 pts
Finished the three cartographer titles (texmods helped a lot) = 3 pts
Having 5 title = 1 pt
Having one mini cos of my 2nd char birthday (I deleted my first cos I didnt know) = 1 pt
Having a pet = 1 point
Having a phoenix = 1 pt
Having M.O.X = 1 pt
This gave me 11 points already.
I have 12 slots, 11 used. 10 running all over in all three campaigns. I would basically run them through till each get about 100plat and then go get the elite armor for that char (I would look at wikis before that for a long time to decide what I want to buy... cos I want my char to look good to me...It's a girl thing). 100plat because I am lazy plus busy. I buy the rare mats.
This gave me quite a few points on armors...
While doing the carto, I would try capping as many elites skills as I can. Might as well, right? And I have opened up all the secondaries. So I simply check what bosses are in the area and cap them according to the professions. - helps in getting the elite skills hunt.
The pacman solo mission thingy (Remains of Sahlahja) is the easiest for me to run and that gave me a few pieces to upgrade my heroes' armors.
This got me started on HOM.
Next came either vanquishing or finishing all the missions with bonuses. Text mod's helped a lot (In Game Mission Maps - IGMM.)
I did it the hard way too....

I can speak from my experience, I've set out to get atleast 30/50 for my HoM once the update came out(you get max item rewards). Before the HoM, I never played GW
It took me about 1 and a half month to get to to 30/50 while playing about 2-3 hrs per day and 4-5 hrs on weekend/fridays in which I dedicated mostly to trading
I had a smooth run since I got somewhat lucky while doing one of uw runs by getting mini dhuum in which I could relatively fund myself to getting 30/50 fast with minis/armor and crafting HoM weaps, but I am sure its possible by just dedicating a few hours to farm event drops
