Rubbing Potassium on water fountains.

LF guild that teaches MTSC (did it long ago before gw2 came out and I quit...but I barely remember)

N/A

40/40
Energy Set
Quite possible a 40/20/20 staff
Shield Sets for every possible situation (theyre easier to keep track of if you make them different skins for each)
Low energy spear I think are also used as well.

Any actual serious PvP'ers feel free to correct me.

Keep in mind keeping track of all the weapon sets will be a pain.

The prices all depend.

You can get a cheap 40/40 by finishing eotn on 2 chars and using the keys on a focus and wand.
It's all a matter of skins, and collector weapons, and greens.

Things you should definitely have on hand:

-5 energy weapon with +5 armor
+5 energy weapon with +5 armor
r7 15 AL shields with +30 hp and +10 armor vs Slashing, Fire, Cold, Lightning, Piercing, Blunt
40/20/20 prot staff
40/40 heal
heal high set (20% recharge wand, +30 hp focus)

Stuff that you might want to have:
+5 energy weapon with 20% enchant (for alternate mid set or alternate high set on prot)
20/20 prot focus
prot high set
40/40 divine favor set
r7 shields for Earth and Cripple

For RA monking, I bring the following 4 weapon sets:

40/40 healing set. (wand + focus)

Furious Spear of Fortitude with +5 energy inscription
+30 Shield with +10armor vs Fire

Furious Spear of Fortitude with +5 energy inscription
+30 Shield with +10armor vs Blunt

Furious Spear of Fortitude with +5 energy inscription
+30 Shield with "luck of the draw" inscription

I use the 40/40 healing set (or prot if that's what you're running) when I'm under no pressure. Once I come under pressure, I switch to the appropriate shield set. If there's a fire ele (the most typical ele in RA I find) I usually just stay on the fire set and switch to another shield set as needed. If you're wealthy, you can use req8 tactics shields and bring up your divine attribute one more point.

As for builds go, use the meta ra monking build until you get a good feel on how to pvp. As I'm sure you may already know, you will almost always be attacked first out of the gate so be prepared. My advice? practice practice practice and ignore all the flamers that tell you how lousy you are. Monks always get the blame, regardless. Just ignore them and keep on working at it.

No other way.

You can put your most commonly used weapon sets in the 4 shortcuts. After that it is a case of having your inventory open and selecting the shield to use.

The first five seconds of seeing your opponent should be enough to decide which one's the best for the match.

Main things to remember: Hammer Warriors Blunt, Sword/Axe Warriors and Dervs Slashing, and most eles either earth or fire (if actually damaging). To be honest, these days piercing isnt as important because there isnt as much ranger spikes. Good to have if you got the room, but not as important. For me most important are Blunt, Slashing, Fire and Earth. Followed by lightning, then piercing and water.

+5 defence spear mods are useful to help reduce your damage taken, but at the end of your health if you have a spear with +30hp, and you can swap to it thats also good.

I'm dumb. You're right, blunt is definitely important to have around.

In order of commonality and importance in RA, I'd probably rank them Slashing, Blunt, Fire, Lightning, Piercing, Earth, and Cold. Priorities change in organized formats.

You can use one of the F# keys (don't remember which as i can't check the game now), to keep open only one inventory's bag. I put it on a corner of the screen, always opened, and i have my shields there. If you have bought your shields (7/15 ones) they will probably have different skins. However you can also try to dye them to quickly remember what each shield does, or put them in some order inside the bag, for example the physical ones on the left, and the elemental ones on the right, or all these things together.

Something that's also useful is Disciple's insignia's on your armor. And the anti-daze/deep wound rune.

Particularly useful when using draw conditions, which is the best condition "removal" skill for a monk, I think.
