I haven't been able to play GW for *months* now, and it's driving me batty. Whenever I log in to GW, I can get to the character selection page, and *sometimes* even into the game or character creation pages, but at some point the game will freeze. I still have mouse control, and music, but absolutely no response from the game. I've tried letting it be to see if it was just lag, but nothing happens.
Thing is, nothing has changed about my system, so I have no idea what changed.
Windows XP Pro
MSI MS-7309
AMD Sempron Processor 140 Processor, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.7GHz
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT
I have virus scanned, defragged, done everything but sprinkle holy water... I haven't uninstalled and reinstalled because my disks seem to be awol.
Any ideas?

trying uninstalling / reinstalling your graphics card driver.

There is a link to the driver you would need to download for your card.

Yeah, update your drivers to the latest available from NVIDIA. If that doesn't work, download a temperature monitoring program (HWMonitor is simple and has a small footprint) and run that when you try to play GW - then post the temps here.
Also, you can download the GW client from www.guildwars.com and then run the "-image" command to download the whole game, which takes roughly 6 hrs on DSL.
