I still don't think I'm doing this right..

So I gave up on the Mox quest and went along with the nightfall quest line and came to Jennur's Horde. I found myself dying 2 seconds into mob group pulls (been like that no matter what lately).
So I watched a walkthrough and I don't feel like I'm playing the same game as everybody else.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9J8DMQa10s
This guy runs into an entire group of mobs and gets hit for maybe 10% of his life... I'm an ele and I do the same thing, except I avoid all contact with mobs and get hit for 250+ on single attacks. I pretty much have to run around and let my henchman do most of my fighting or else if I sit in one place too long I get two 250 hits simultaneously and I'm instagibbed.
This has been happening alot lately where I'll just engage a normal pack of mobs like I have been for the past 100 quests or so I've completed, except now I'm liable to die in a split second and not know wtf just hit me... I don't know if its the armor I have, the profession I chose... or what but this is nuts.
I gave up on a warrior because everytime I would go in to fight mobs, I would be slowed to 25% nearly ever pull and spammed with spells into oblivion until I died. Now as an ele I'm just running around praying I can get off a 1 second cast without having a proverbial house land on top of me and kill me instantly from some caster mob 10 miles away.
What do I do? Should I reroll to the ritualist build that guy plays? I just heard eles were good farmers and thought for the future with trying to fill my HoM, that a good farming profession would be best.

What are your stats on your armor and weapon?

I am on my phone, so it's hard to see the video. However, I do have a few words of advice:
1. Protection > healing
2. Max AL for your class
3. Don't pull using your aggro bubble. Use a longbow.
4. Kite.

250 damage shouldn't be right even for an ele. It's probably because your still using the armor that you got when you first started the game. Since you are an ele, you should be getting equips that have 60 armor.

I was looking at the vabbian armor but I'm quite sure I cannot afford that yet. I'm also using the Pyrewood staff or something, I got it a long time ago and can't figure out where to get weapons.
I guess that guy in the video has a "spirit spammer" build? I don't know I'm only assuming, but it seems to be effective.
Also, I dont see too many eles running around when I take notice of other's professions.. I mostly see warriors, necros, monks and dervishes..

If you are up to jennur's, you are past consulate docks. They have max level armor.

go back and buy armor at Consulate Docks. You'll be surprised how much easier things will be.
Some other things to consider are runes and insignias that can boost your health, armor, and/or energy. In general, you want either a minor, major, or superior (best but most expensive) vigor rune and a combination of radiant (if you want energy) or survivor (if you want health) insignias along with other runes of which elements you specialize in.
There are also some earth spells that can raise your armor, and earth wards like Ward against melee/foes will help you against melee opponents. Water magic is also good for blurred vision (AoE blind-like spell) and other snares which slow your opponents movements, making it easier for you to kite away from them. Air magic is good for blind spells like blinding Flash and Blinding Surge, and can also help you out if you're having trouble with a particular area.
EDIT: To answer your concerns about eles in PvE... In general, elementalists are awesome in normal mode and for various solo farms, but once you get to hard mode (if you ever want to experience the hard mode content), eles become a little less effective, as monsters have greater resistances to magic. This isn't to say you can't be successful, though, elementalists can still fill many roles in even hard mode battles.

First off as mentioned you should always pull with a long bow. For 2 reasons.
1. You can get back to you team before you get spiked.
2. It will allow you to pull the group farther away from other groups so your heroes or henchmen don't accidentally aggro another group.
I would also like to briefly expand on the prots>heals.
If you are going to run in head first to aggro instead of using a longbow Make sure to have one of your heroes cast Protective spirit on you. That will prevent you from taking more then 60 damage for the duration of the enchantment (assuming you have 600 health which you probably don't). It is much easier to heal 60 damage per hit then 250 damage per hit. Your healer should easily be able to keep your health up during the initial pull.
For your first set of armor just go for the cheap stuff. Vabian and other elite armors require both materials and a decent amount of gold to obtain.
As for weapons you should have received enough drops by now to salvage and create a decent weapon. I would suggest figuring out what you want and then actively looking for the modifications you need as you ID and salvage items.

Man I love the community here, thanks for the responses as always guys. Well I'm en route to making the armor from the consulate docks and I'll give it a spin and see how it goes.

Side note: don't go for too many runes. One superior rune, tops, no more.

With the funds he specified, I'm pretty sure a 20k superior vigor is out of the guy's current budget...
Hey, just remembered:
OP, for the first play through, did you look up the nightfall treasures?
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Treasure
Read up carefully about where they are and how often they can be opened!

Good luck and buy better weapons too. If not, go out and kill some stuff till they drop a nicer elementalist weapon. and i.d those you don't need and savage those with nice runes you can use. what else....oh. customize the weapons. It gives more damage.

Mobs target the weakest so lowest armour or health makes you the prime target.
They also go for casters.
Use runes and inscriptions to boost health use collectors to get better armour till you can afford the best.
Carry a shield with decent armour and health boost for emergencies
Carry a Bow too so you can place your party and then draw enemies to them in smaller numbers.
Necro hero with minions is a good soak for spells and melee damage.
So are spirits.
I find triggering the enemies first attack is a great way to defeat them.
Put a spirit down then pull back the party.
Pull the enemy to your false spirit target.
Usually they will hit it with everything they have, just like the do to your party
Then attack I find that's great to get them to waste their initial barrage

A Major Vigor rune is satisfactory. +9 health is not worth 15-20k to a new player.
Hell, even a Minor Vigor rune will do.
Your first port of call is Consulate Docks. There you will be able to buy max armour (AL 60 for an Ele) for 1k a piece plus materials. The +30 you'll gain in Armour will almost halve the damage you take.
Non Elite max armour always costs 1k per piece. Elite armour can be as high as 15k per piece and has no statistical benefit. Hold off buying these things until your income/capital can sustain such indulgence and vanity.
General things:
A superior rune is a good increase in power, but the health loss can be a little scary. If you're finding the health loss too much, stick to Minor or Major runes. Do not take more than one rune that causes health loss.
A good start are Survivor insignias - though expensive at first (500-800g per insignia), they a good choice especially if you can only invest in one armour set. Blessed Insignia are also good, and if you buy two armour sets, I recommend wearing the set with Blessed and switching to the Survivor set if you ever rack up Death Penalty.
A minor Energy Storage rune is nice, but not necessary. Fill up the gaps with Vitae runes.
Rune up your heroes with Survivor's and Vitaes whenever you think you can afford them or find spares. Stick a rune of whatever att they use most on their headpiece, but I would stick to Minor runes for this purpose. Equipment is less important so you might as well give them high health staffs or something - perhaps shield sets for Eles or ones with no energy problems.
For more advice, you'll need to share your builds.

Have you read the guides on your profession in the Campfire section? There is a basics one at http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/b...t10314574.html and an advanced one http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/a...t10419956.html
Those should help you understand the profession better.
Hope things improve for you.
Overall, stop trying to rush through the game on your first go. Invest the gold in your armor and upgrades, then do some basic (go out and kill anything) farming. The missions are only going to get harder.

Max armor is absolutely necessary. Ab. So. Lootly. If I had to pin your deaths on a single factor, that'd be it. As mentioned, the targeting system will make mobs target you first, and you should almost never take 250 damage from anything but a boss (and sometimes not even then).
I have a friend who just started and got to the mainland in Cantha and was having the same problems as you, but even worse (she was still wearing starter armor -- 5 AL). Two things I helped her with that let her move on:
1. Max armor. Did I mention it's the most absolutely essential piece of equipment in the entire game? Well, it is.
2. A decent build. She was a "Fire Ele" with no Attunement (her e-management was Energy Tap with 0 Inspiration), 2 Fire skills (Flare and Fire Storm of course), Lightning Orb, and a handful of other skills. I felt bad ripping it apart, but it was for the best, and how could she know what made a good build? Needless to say, after re-shaping her bar she really began to enjoy the game! She could actually play it!
If you want some in-game help I'll be on most of the weekend. PM me here on Guru if you want and I'll give you my IGN. Sometimes, one good explanation makes a big difference.
