What will having a 20 in party do to XP?

Hi there! I was just curious - I can't seem to find anything that tells what affects having a level 20 in a party with say a level 6 will do to that level 6's xp (this would be in a zone native to the level 6... so say a level 20 helping a newb out in Shing Jea Monastery).

Any help would be great. =D

It shouldn't have much effect, yes it'll divide the monster exp (i think), but regardless after the division what you get depends on your level vs. the monster's level. Anyway you don't have much to worry about, because at least in factions you'll get the majority of your EXP from quest rewards and mission bonuses, which go directly to you without being divided.

Yeah I mean either way you'll get to level 20 eventually, and as the previous poster said you'll get all of the experience from quests and missions anyways. The experience you get from monsters is a small portion of the pool of experience it takes to get to level 20, usually.

I don't think it would matter to your character whether the other party member is level 6, 16 or 20.

I've had a friend bring along a level 20 character to help out a couple of my own low levels on occasion (often lower than lvl 6) and from what I could see, the xp my character gained didn't appear to be impacted in any way.

The only thing that affected my xp, aside from party size (not level) was whether or not I contributed to the fight. No contribution usually = no xp points.

The XP is split between party members depending on the level vs the monster's level. There is a table on the wiki at http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Experience_point that shows the split. So while you will get more XP than the level 20 (who will most likely get 0), it will still be half of what you would have received alone.
