The updated plan:

On a predesignated day in the not too far future (Saturday 30th seems good, just before halloween kicks off) at around 8pm EST (1am GMT) participants head to Shing Jea Monastery, US, District 2. If D2 isn't open and there's space in D1, that can be filled instead. If it's big enough, it'll spill over into the other districts anyway.

Characters arrive for a couple of minutes before the event starts with a transmogrifier tonic on hand and wait until 8. As soon as it's time, everybody takes their tonic and heads to the plaza where a few of us will be trying our best to organise people into rough lines to start a synchronised thriller dance (if anyone here fancies helping out with that it'd be greatly appreciated).

A short while later we'll disperse and empty the district.

Hello!

We're really not sure if anything like this has been done before in Guild Wars (or on a large scale in any MMO) but figured this would be about the best place to gauge feedback.

We're thinking of organising a Flash Mob. Basically just to see if it can be done and what sort of community reaction it'll get.

Any advice on dates/times is appreciated (I'm actually from the UK but most of the chars will likely be from the US so it makes sense to set it at a sensible time for them), also if anyone can think of an actual purpose/cause to this madness, we'd love to hear it.

Currently there are a few people interested but the event is being spread entirely through word of mouth/guild/alliance chat. Ideally people won't start spamming it in normal chat channels at that will probably start annoying people. Once a time has been finalised (hopefully today) I can start trying to spread the word properly and if some of you guys were interested enough to help as well, I'm sure it'd get pretty big.

If you don't know about flash mobs, there's a wikipedia article here. They can quite often get to hundreds of people big, though hopefully this will far surpass that...

Any questions/clarifications, please feel free to ask. Any encouragement, criticism or flaming also more than welcome.

I think the naked dancing thing is pretty...meh... (you always see mobs of naked dancers)

I would do something unique like line everyone up in a huge conga line and do some sort of emote that will persist and match across all professions (like /drums or /flute).

We already had something like this.
It was called Pink Day in LA.

We thought of that but it'll be a beast to organise a lot of people in the same way. If you reckon it would work better though I'll have a look at it.

Similar, yes. And didn't you enjoy your pretty little head?

I would go only if the 'pointless act' was not getting undressed, but performing the same emote with the asterisk so its synchronized.

The one that would have the greatest effect would be /sit *.

I would be very glad to participate in a "Flash Mob" event...just decide on what we're going to do and let 'er rip!

Flashmobs by their very nature should seem random and therefore not really widely publicized. Pink Day was brilliant, but not a Flashmob per se.The point is that the "public" should be confused and amused.

Our alliance did one last year during Wintersday and it was fun for us at least. We made a huge "spontaneous" Snowman conga line in Kamadan and LA, and congaed out into the explorable.

How long does the asterisk delay the emote for? I don't think we're realistically going to get that many people sychronised within a decent space of time, certainly not if it's only 5 seconds or so. Though come to think of it, just sitting might work well enough if there were enough people.

It'd be better if it was the halloween themed costumes but i can imagine there are a lot of people that don't have any. Actually, maybe transmog tonics? It would cut the numbers down a bit but a district full of candy corn doing a thriller dance sounds like just the thing...

Indeed, which, if it does take off, is why I'm hoping people don't start spamming it in chat channels.

Months and months ago there was a flash mob randomly in Lions Arch mourning the death of MJ by setting up lines of synchronised dancers using the candy corn transmog tonic.
It was extremely fun to see. Would love to join something similar.

LA the day before Mad King Thorn shows up? Really??

There will already be 100+ districts of afkers who either don't know when he comes or won't be around for him so they just go there and leave GWs running.
You may want to pick a different time/place or both.

Ah yeah, that's an excellent point, thanks. This is why I ask for advice.

Different time is probably the best bet, Lions Arch is about the easiest place for most people to get to, apart from uber low level chars, so it's likely to get the best turnout. Any suggestions on time/date?

I'm definitely thinking Candy Corn transmog is the way to go though.

...district size limits make this kind of a lame idea. A busy district isn't uncommon during holidays and people coordinating stuff in sponsored districts has been done.

Sorry it's just... not that impressive to me.

Years and years ago before factions hundreds of Monks made a flash mob and went on strike in Thunder Head Keep and filled like 3 districts. It was so big even a AN poked their head in for a moment to see what was going on. They were on strike because of being blamed for all that went wrong and RESPECT or at least i think so though my memory might be wrong.

I remember this. It was dubbed "Monks Against Stupidity" because Monks in Thunderhead Keep were always blamed for the failure to complete the final defense waves and protecting King Jalis Ironhammer. However, it wasn't the majority of their fault as Warriors, Rangers and some Elementalists went stupid crazy and died from the hard hitting Jade Armors and Mursaat Elementalists faster than Monks could blink.

This lead to players with Monks to go naked and purposely lose for the group, or just stood around and did nothing.

Ultimately, those who complained got nowhere, other Monks that did do well overcame the negativity and Warriors were, in a beginning of sorts, to be unwelcome for their "demanding" ways.

Way back during the E3 event I joined a guild called the naked army and we did exactly this when the event was ending.

I'm not sure how I feel about the idea as a whole, but I agree that LA or Spamadan would be a bad idea right now, with all the people (who are mostly AFK). Why not pick someplace in Factions? Since it doesn't celebrate, it shouldn't be too hard to fill an outpost. If you do the transmog tonics idea, it could have a purpose: Bringing Halloween to Cantha.

Yeah, this isn't a half bad idea. Transmogs are going to be about the best bet at the moment, seeing as it's halloween plenty of people will have them and it'd look quite effective. And Shing Jea is just asking to be livened up a little.
