Make the best of your loot
Cool Name
There is a similar thread here called "How to make money" but I think what I'm asking is a bit more specific.
So I'm farming UW and getting loot and not sure what's best to do with it. Salvage, merch, identify, etc? Is there a known way that gets the most money, or is it preference?

Always identify everything. With the exception of early-area drops, identifying adds more gold than the cost of the use of the kit. Most stuff from UW is merch food. The reason is that the drops are uninscribable and thus very rarely 'perfect' (max inherent mod with a good requirement). Even then, most skins are not sought after. So unless you get a perfect dual modded eternal shield or something, just identify and merch.

What about demonic remains? Worth the salvage for dust?

You can wiki any trophy item, and it will tell you the rough amount of salvage materials you can expect to get from it. Factor in the cost of the salvage charge and market value of the materials, and compare it to the amount you get selling the item to a merchant.
Maybe also consider if it's an item worth anything to a collector for weapons you might want. And how hard it is to farm in case Nick the Traveler wants it.
It's up to the individual player to weigh these things.

He references the link you posted so he obviously saw it. Go back to your bridge troll.
I would suggest salvaging the remains you get for dust. Use the basic 100g kit and sell the dust. I have also seen people buying the remains so if you don't feel like salvaging them you can look for someone buying them. I think I saw them at like 150g/ea or something close to that.
Also save up the ecto's and wait until they sell for around 14=98k or 14=100k. No point in selling 15e for 100k because the price usually fluctuates back to 14 for 98k(7k each) within a day or two.
Also if you find golds then I would suggest selling them as unid's. However, farming anywhere and getting a decent weapon is a nice way to equip your heroes if you still need to do that.

Demonic Remains? I'm trying to figure out why someone would buy them. According to their wiki page, they have no collectors -- I don't even think they're collected for track-progressing consumables during festivals. Except for the Farewell to Gaile....

At 150g a pop?

most generally Dust is used to craft con sets..
Essence of Celerity: Uses Feathers & Dust
Armor of Salvation: Uses Bones & Iron
Grail of Might: Uses Iron & Dust.
so anything you can salvage dust from is sought after for the Con Sets
and 1 full Con Set.. ie.. (Essence of Celerity, Armor of Salvation, & Grail of Might) sells for 8k a set in ToA, and sells for 8.5-9.5k in Gates of Anguish

Okay.... But, if Wiki is to be trusted, you can salvage 4-5 dust off of one Demonic Remains. If you're buying your Remains for 150g each, you're spending 30-37 gold per pile of dust. I have a feeling the material traders have that beat. Seems like a bad deal to me, if that's what people are buying them for.

150g each must have been when Nicholas was after them

Also, why did they make identify white items give them more valuable? Seems like a weird thing to add to the game..

You may be getting Demonic Remains, which drop in UW and salvage to 4-5 Dust, mixed up with DARK Remains, which drop in FOW and salvage to 12-13 Dust.
Players pay for DARK remains.
