Experiencing Lag
makosi
Hi,
I'm getting a great deal of lag this evening (and last night too) and I'm wondering if anybody else is also having this. I'm freezing roughly every 10 seconds for 2-5 seconds at which point all the attacks I've mad and spells I've cast within the lag freeze then occur in rapid succession when I unfreeze.
I rarely have lag issues and I'm guessing it's to do with the halloween event. Could anybody else post if they're having a similar problem? This way I'll know for sure if it's soley my connection (which I doubt since other applications are fine) or if it's some routing centre that is faulty.
Thanks.

I am in exactly the same situation. Lag is usually extremely rare for me, but yesterday was bad, and today is almost unplayable, ping times range from 1000ms to 25000ms or more. I've killed skeletons and had them disappear before I could capture them, because the server took so long to respond.
I am simply pointing my heroes at a spot on the ground... some time later, the screen will unfreeze, I will find myself at that location... and hopefully the heroes killed everything nearby. It's like playing by email :-P
I'm in the UK. Tracert doesn't reveal any slow/bad hops, it looks fine. All districts are the same - European, American, International, Asian. All my other internet stuff is working fine, business as usual.

I'm on VirginMedia too.
Could be that, could be a UK thing. Depends on others' input. Cheers.

Why is it that over the past month everyone decides to make a new thread every time they experience lag?

I'm in Southern Ontario, Canada and I was experiencing quite a bit of lag while doing the Halloween quest earlier today. It probably just has a lot to do with the event.

I'm from Manitoba, Canada, and my lag issues are even worse. Every 5 seconds I freeze FOREVER, sometimes I get the option to attempt to reconnect, usually I have to wait 10 mins for that though. It sucks, I can't do anything! Could be my ISP though, it's storming here
cantalus

I'm running PingPlotter and it says there's packet loss 20-30% at:
ae-32-80.car2.Dallas1.Level3.net
4.69.145.132
Does this mean the issue is in Texas?

I've noticed that anet servers always screech to a halt during special events and right before a big update, particularly in heavy traffic instances like popular farming and quest locations.
I have to give anet props though, I've suffered some rubber banding, but it's been nowhere near as bad as the last few holidays when bots were allowed to run amok.

Virgin media, UK, lancs here.
Given up on gw for last 3 days as nothing but rubber banding.
Gone back to x3:TC, will return after derv update today or end of festival event.

because this is unusual lag, and to let people like you have something negative to say

Old players are returning for HoM rewards. And then everyone that only logs in for events have begun logging in for halloween.
This lag happens every single holiday, how is it unusual? The only difference is the added players for HoM

My ping is good again today during the daytime. In the past two days it has gotten laggy in the evenings (18:00GMT onwards) so if it happens again I'll consult support.

I note that there was a "severe broadband problem" logged on Virgin Media's national service status page last night (it claimed it only affected SE England hmmm). That item is no longer showing, indicating it should now be fixed.
I hope that was the cause of my problems, and things are back to normal when I login tonight.

It's incredibly rare that I get problems with lag, even during events. Ping times typically rise during events, but not to "problem" levels, and certainly not to 25,000ms or more, and disconnects.

My connection is back to normal, lag problems gone.

Packet loss of up to 60%. This can't be my fault, right?

Same here - it's fine, and then suddenly spikes to 20 seconds+. Been getting it for 2 days now.

Turns out this is a VirginMedia problem.

WoW and Aion players are lagging too and a techy on the VM website said it'll take a few weeks to fix.
It's only affecting me in the evenings for some reason.
Edit: Someone on a WoW forum suggest the following command (paste it in to "Run") and it's worked for me too.
