Hello all,
I just installed the Guild Wars and have a big problem with camera smoothing. When I move the mouse from side to side, the camera movement does not map to my mouse pointer, when I move fast with my mouse and stop, the camera still moves for a brief moment !
This gives me serious headache as I expect the camera to follow my mouse without any smoothing or lag. It really is a brain torture.
FYI,
GeForce 480GTX
i7 Extreme 965 @4.0Ghz
The game is running at 630 FPS stable and 60 ping.
I play(ed) lot of other games: AoC, Aion, Quake, BFBC2 and so on, without any camera issues.
This is the first game I see such bad camera implementation where camera accelerates and decelerates... I just prey that there is some way to disable this stupid smoothing feature.
Any help ?
How to disable the camera lag or smoothing ?

It's not a camera issue, it's how the game is designed to run. I always found it pleasant compared to the jarring, sudden stop and go of a camera that isn't smoothed (granted, in shooters you want that ultra sensitivity, but in games like this the precision isn't necessary). Actually, when I tried other games (WoW, AoC and LotRO) and realized they didn't have the smoothing, to me it made them feel very cheap. Almost like something was broken or missing.
Off hand I don't know of any way to disable it. Give it some time and i guarantee you'll get used to it, even like it. Then go back to any other game (excluding shooters) and you'll immediately miss the smoothing.

I appreciate your input but to me it is just painful because I like the responsiveness of my input devices, I don't want to rely on some magic smoothing without at least having the possibility to tweak it myself to adjust it to my needs.
We are all different right ? I definitely don't want my head movement to be smoothed IRL and IG. Just imagine your eye movements are smoothed IRL and you'll find how I feel in this game
They should give us the option to adjust this kind of settings. A smoothing camera on/off check-box should be included but obviously it isn't...
I feel I wasted my money, but I'm happy to learn that at least some people actually like smoothing.

I completely understand what you mean, they should have put the option in to disable it. Almost every other game out there with mouse smoothing either lets you disable it or adjust it via a slider. Well, technically this isn't mouse smoothing but a camera smoothing. The effect isn't there on your normal cursor, only when you pan the camera.
I played GW for almost 2 years back in my hay day, and when I finally quit and moved on it was incredibly difficult to get used to the sudden camera movements in other 3rd person games. Even when I did adjust to not having the smoothing I always missed it. Now after taking a 2 year break from GW I'm having a tough time readjusting BACK to it :/
But I still prefer it

Been that way for 5 and 1/2 years now.

^^ Yep. I remember the first time I played GW. Panned my camera for the first time and was like "Wow, that's different." Made the game feel very high-end and polished to me.
I would think if enough people had thought it a problem, the developers would have implemented a way to disable it.

Think of playing GW as more of an RTS overview than a FPS twitch reaction scenario. I tend to look at the enemy's health/stat bar at the top of the screen, my active effects in the top left, my skill bar at the bottom, my heroes skill bars on the right side, as well as the health and stats of other party members. All that to say, who looks at the center of the screen and the camera movement anyway? I know I don't, at least not during a fight.

hi,
i dont know what you mean with the smothing but try turning off the post process effects or the anti-aliasing and vsync

im assuming you mean 60fps? vsync locks your fps to your monitors refresh rate, usually 60 on an lcd

Still, having vsync on wouldn't cause an issue like this. If triple buffering is enabled in his card's control panel while vsync is on it could cause something like this. But, it's still a function of the game. It'll be there regardless.

I'd suggest trying it with vsync ON.

He could be playing with low settings and vsync off. A lot of people (especially shooter fanatics) have killer rigs and still play at medium to low settings just to guarantee crazy high framerates. It actually makes a difference sometimes.

and vsync does cause mouse lag and triple buffering makes it worse - it always has, it really doesnt matter much in a game like GW but makes a big difference in fps like UT
