I have recently purchased the trilogy and have started my first character. I know very little about the game. I am interested in PvP and realize that I am taking a chance on 5 year old game. I would be interested on advice from the veterans on best paths to get started. I see some whining on the forums about GvG being dead and am growing concerned that I may be too late.
Thanks,
Ziflak
Noob advice please :)

FYI ... I did see the post about new/prospective PVPers on the 30th. I will be attending whatever portion I can make of that.

Lot more PvP than the GvG stuff, and that was just one players overwhelming gripe at all things Pvp he didn`t like.

The best advice I can give you is to ignore PvP until you have beaten the trilogy and EotN or at least most of it.
Then start out easy with Jade Quarry and Alliance Battles. Use Balth faction to unlock skills when needed and experiment with wiki builds and make your own.
Start experimenting with RA and or Codex (not as fun as they once were). Once you feel ready, look for guilds recruiting PvP and find out what you need to do to get in.

personally I'd say try some Costume Brawl. It's a casual format of PvP. The 'bars' (that is the 8 skills which you will be using) have been pre-selected (and are the same for everyone of the same profession), so that levels the playing field.
The matches are fast and there's no pressure. Teams are chosen randomly so don't worry about finding a group or getting in a suitable PvP guild.

Definitely costume brawl to get the hang of the PVP atmosphere, then work through the campaigns to unlock skills to use in RA/Codex.

All,
Thanks for the advice. I plan on playing through the Trilogy but I will pop into the costume brawls when I feel the need to PVP
Thanks Again!

If you're really interested in getting into high-end pvp, I'd advise checking out the pvp section on teamquitter.com there's some great guides on equipment and how to play various roles there. There's also a section where you'll be able to find pvp guilds looking for players. First and foremost though, you NEED to work on getting UAX. There's over 1500 skills in guild wars and even more equipment. To be successful in pvp you need to have all of it unlocked. You can do that by either purchasing a pvp unlock pack ( i think they're like 10-15 USD) or by using the Balthazar faction you earn to individual unlock skills.

Just join a GvG Guild and they will teach you the basics
