Alright. GW2 looks fantastic and so I was curious about GW. My girlfriend and I made accounts and DLed the game. We were really excited to check it out, and then found out...
1. We cant send tells?
2. We cant group together?
3. WHAT???
We tend to play MMOs together side by side.. so how in the world are we supposed to get a feel for the game if we cant play together? Sure, we know its a 10 hour trial and all that. We were actually considering buying the first box and playing the full game. But we first wanted to play a bit, try some classes, do some grouping. So, we cant even explore the game together during the trial?
Not cool. Im not asking for a free ride, Id just like to play a few hours with my GF so we can decide if we want to invest in the game. Is that too much to ask?
Am I missing something? This feels more like a demo then a trial.
Just started a trial account.. questions!

Not cool. Heck now in LOTRO you can play a huge chunk of the game for free. Im not asking for that, Id just like to play a few hours with my GF. Is that too much to ask?

ahem...
before lotro went free to play it had as I recall an even more restrictive trial
Wow...has the same restrictions.
Most mmo's have the same restrictions.
Mostly for the same reason...
Trial codes are easy to get your hands on.(if you don't believe that go to yahoo and search guild wars trial code creator and check out the third link down) <---I don't send them directly to it so it's ok right?
A gold selling company can easily get a few hundred and use trial accounts to spam ad's for their company. Basically it's forcing them to use real accounts thus cutting into their profits when they advertise as they know those accounts will get banned. So gold selling companies are more limited in how they spam their sites because they don't want to cut into profit to much.

Eh I took out that part about lotro cause it sounded petty hehe. But the rest of my post stands. I understand what you are talking about with free trials but... it really restricts us. We were all excited about playing and now we arent sure if we are gonna buy the box sets cause we cant play together first.
It just doesnt seem like a good business plan to alienate your customers before they even buy in. We are still on the fence tho. Maybe we will get into it and have fun.

Try to explore the rest of the game while on your trial. If you know you can group in the full game, the inability to do so in the trial shouldn't stop you from making your decision.

I was able to group up with a friend while he was on trail in pre-searing but I was already a player. We could private chat with the only restriction that he couldn't trade with me.

Trial characters can't group? Odd...

For several years, ArenaNet had trials that were only available from a access code included in the game box. Those were unrestricted trials. Then the gold sellers began buying the access codes and using the trial accounts to spam WTB accounts and to transfer gold. ArenaNet put restrictions on the trials and a download link on their website. Don't blame the company, blame the gold sellers who like to destroy game economies to line their pockets.
Meanwhile try out the game solo and then you can vote on buying it or not. I've been playing for almost five years and still have fun in the game.

The trial is probably very limited to prevent gold sellers and the like abusing it.
Whoops, sorry Darcy, you just said that
