Extra key binds?

I remember Anet not liking third party hardwares being used with the game but what is the policy on using a hardware to for extra key binds for things like controlling my heroes better? I have a Razer Naga mouse that I am considering binding hero skills or focus on, but I don't want to put my account at risk.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. My mouse has extra buttons as well as my keyboard and I take advantage and map them to various things.

As long as you don't create some chain macro command using a logitech keyboard or some bot and do the work for you, you should be OK.

If you keep repeating the macros over and over and a lot of them at once you *might* get flagged as a bot.

Awesome, that's what I assumed as well but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't thinking off base for any reason. I knew macros were big no-no's and that key binds should be fine but I just wanted to be sure.

If you're binding them to things like "Mouse button 4" etc... there's absolutely no reason for alarm at all

What they are against is anything that allows you to walk away from the keyboard and the computer continues to play the game without you. So long-string, repeating macros will get you banned. Key-binds are not currently something they are punishing. They will not state that key-binds are OK, because sometime in the future it might become a problem.

ANet is more concerned about "software" (bots) than hardware. The only hardware aspect would be things like keyboards that record macros, but that's really still software.

From a overall perspective, the game reads keystrokes and/or mouse buttons. Whether or not these inputs come from an actual keyboard, or a virtual keyboard, or some other gaming gadget, is immaterial as long as they are individual keystrokes - not macros or bots.

You can even record macros on your mouse/keyboard without any trouble, as long as they are simple macros that don't essentially play the game for you. As long as there is human-to-device interaction at all times while playing, you ought to be fine.

P.S. How do you like the Naga?

Oh I've always loved the Naga since I got it. The buttons are all placed very well except for 10-12 which are a bit far back to reach comfortably but I rarely ever use those anyway. The ergonomics of the entire thing just work out great.
