Should I GW?

I'm done with Aion...played for a year...I used to play War and WoW, each for a year as well...

Now I'm looking for something to do until GW2...is GW for me?

A little bit about me...I'm a PvP'er...that's all you need to know

So, I DL the 10-day/8hour or however long trial...not bad graphically for a game that came out a while ago...anyways, running felt a little weird...felt like I was floating through the world lol. I made it to past-whatever it's called in Ascalon where they blow up the wall...

Not sure if I can party with people or not yet...I logged off and then logged back on and found my NPC party was gone...I couldn't figure it out how to get them back...I think I need to pick up some "henchmen"? I'll look for that tab tonight...

Anyways, still looking for the "PvP"...that quest with the NPC fighting was fun...hopefully there is more of that...

So I guess my question is, with nothing out worthy to play...should I stick with this? Will GW keep my interest until GW2? When does the PvP come (hopefully soon)? Any tips? tricks? class?

I've never played the trial, but you can make a lvl 20 pvp character. That character is only available in pvp arena's.
In my opinion guild wars has still the best pvp, it's really a lot better than WoW/War/Aion(at least that's what I think).
And you can make a pvp character and unlock perfect items by pvp'ing, so you never have to do uber boring item grind like in those others MMO's.

Okay... Uh, I'm a PvE'er... I personally love this game. I don't play PvP, like, at all. Mean people scare me :P lol.

JK. Sorta. To play PvP in GW I suggest you play through the PvE part first to get the skills faster and easier... I guess to each their own though. I don't know what all you can do with a trial acct.. My friend had one and I couldn't give him stuff for armor or anything.

I guess you could try playing a pvp character, you can pick a random build I think? There's Alliance Battling, it's like PvP lite, then there are GvG's (Guild vs Guild battles) and HA, and/or HoH(I have no idea if HA was HoH at one point or not, I have only done it once about 3 years ago.

But you can get skills pretty quick and understand what the game is about.. It seems to me like a waste of money to just play PvP in a game that's both.


Although, then again, quite honestly I don't really get the point or draw of PvP- I'm *really* not looking for a fight, if someone who likes PvP and isn't going to flip out at me for this could pm me with why they in particular like it, I might finally get it <_< ANYWAY.

Henchmen. Sounds like you're playing PvE... Hit p when you are in town and there will be 3 tabs. The first one where people are trying to sell stuff and join groups, the 2nd for your heroes and the 3rd for Henchmen. You don't have Heroes, so click the henchmen tab. then just select them and add them to your party. When you are level 10 you can fight with other players in the pvp in Ascalon, assuming it isn't dead. There's also some in Yak's bend. I don't know much about the rest of it, I don't really PvP unless it's Alliance battling.


I personally adore this game and think you should get it, but explore a little. Maybe go to the PvP section of this site and ask there.

Yea, you can't just do the PvP character with the trial...

I ALWAYS PvE to max level so I learn my skills...also, if I'm forced to do PvE b/c there is some super sweet item or gear then I'm down

I'm gonna say buy it. I just bought about 5 months ago with a 2 month break because of summer. :P Got back into about 2 months ago and I'm having a blast. Best piece of advice I can give you is find a good guild. That alone will help you immensely.

Jumping straight into PvP after unwrapping the box really isn't advised. Unless you enjoy getting flamed

As for PvP, I would recommend you read this. And if you buy GW you should bookmark guild wiki.

Finally, if you do buy it, look on play.com. Just earlier today I saw all 3 campaigns and the expansion (Eye of the North) for £15. Considering I must have spent >£100 on campaigns this is a very good deal. Even if you don't play through them all, it's worth it for the skills (especially in PvP).

It is there but if I do order it from play.com, it might take a while b4 I get it...I think I get all 3 from nc for like $40 (which is like £20 I think) so I can be up and running tonight instead of waiting...thanks for the tip/help though...saving a buck is always good

You will find out that maxing level and gear takes less than 10 hours if you start in Factions or Nightfall. On the other hand, obtaining all the skills is something you *MUST* do for PvP, and it costs about 1M gold (or about the same in Balthazar faction, which is convertible to gold 1:1, so it's the same cost). However, you can choose to buy skill unlock packs in the game online shop; they're cheap and permanent, and if you're completely uninterested in PvE, you don't even need to buy PvE campaigns in that case - mind you, I would recommend against this as PvE is a good, safe learning environment for the game mechanics.

However, getting into the 'real' PvP, that is, HA and GvG, involves ferocious learning curve, stable guild to play with, and serious time investment.

as a pver i'd welcome you with open arms, however, since you mentioned you are a pvper, i think i ought to mention a couple other threads that seem relevant.

also if you don't want to pve, you should take into account that you should probably purchase the pvp skill packs to save a huge amount of time.

one last thing worth mentioning is the lack of minor rewards that gw1 pvp will earn you in gw2. the rewards are weighed heavily in favor of pvers

Yea, I know about the pvp packs, but I think I got a while to GW2 so I'll work on my skills and stuff (seems like there is a TON of combinations to pick from)...also, if I can get some rewards from pve-ing for GW2 I'll grind 'em out...

So I bought it...yay! I told a buddy who had it and we jumped right into some 4v4 v npc...better than the pvpve you have to search for hours to find in Aion lol.

I'ma start a fresh toon from lvl 1 today... wish me luck!
