I'm confused about Kryta...

First post here, obviously - but I've been lurking and reading for a few weeks ever since I bought GW and began playing. Now I find myself really confused by something (well, many things) and no matter how many different ways I try to search for an answer... well, I just end up more confused!

I've haunted the GW Wiki, pretty much always have it and GWG up in the background when I'm playing. GWG helped me FINALLY make sense of what everyone meant about "max armor/damage/etc." and how to recognize what's what! I'm in Kryta now and for timeline reference, my most recent completed mission was D'Alessio Seaboard, and quest-wise I just finished killing the undead outside of Beetletun.

Finding my next mission is no issue, nor is finding my next quest. What stumps me is the list of Prophecies' "Kryta Quests" posted on the GW Wiki. There are multiple quests involving Lion's Arch Keep, Fisherman's Haven, Temple of the Ages, etc. - but when I follow the links back and forth trying to figure out how I access them, it sounds like it requires the EotN expansion - yet it's on the page designated as specifically and ONLY Prophecies quests???

At this point, after further reading, what I'm gathering is that my Prophecies-only missions/quests are soon going to lead me out of Kryta... and then, back in at some point? Thus giving me additional access to areas/quests? Have I got that right?

I am planning on buying EotN, Factions & Nightfall... honestly was waiting for the Steam holiday sales to start. But I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and snag EotN off Amazon... especially if I'm in danger of stalling the storyline out without it?

I realize this all probably sounds simplistic to many of you, but please understand, I've been playing GW only for a little over two weeks and in that time I've taken in a huge massive amount of information, so much that I think some of it is becoming jumbled. This is my first experience with an MMORPG of this kind, so a lot of what seems "common sense" to many of you is pretty much foreign to me.

One more probably silly question - what do people mean by "spammable" in reference to items (Halloween stuff, I gather) and in reference to skills? I find a lot of people USING the word, but no one saying what it is... and asking in local chat has gotten me ignored, as did whispering two people who mentioned it in their Trade listings (actually, one laughed and told me to "GTFO n00b").

Thanks for any clarity you can offer me. I really am trying to make the most out of my first run at this game... I've definitely fallen in love with it, I just kind of feel like I'm drowning a little bit.

Hi, the kryta quests that you are seeing on wiki are WIK "War in Kryta" i wouldnt worry too much about them really, i believe that you would need eotn too actually start the quest line there, what you are best doing is sticking to your quest line in each outpost / town, they will lead you the right direction. You can always check what you need to do next by pushing "L" for log and following your primary quest, that will always lead you to the right direction.

What people meen as spammable is that for titles ( push H "hero button) to see your titles in progress, is they may buy sweets or party items or tonics and too get their titles quicker they prefer spammable versions.

Also don`t worry about rude people in gw there are plenty of them but they are overshadowed by the nice people who will help in anyway.

If you are in any doubt as to what to do at any point don`t hesitate to pm me in game i will help you best i can, Xx Ghost Of Rage Xx.

Also buying the other games / expansion will make your guild wars game that more exciting.

For Kryta, there was a big update around April this year that took us older players back to it for "The War In Kryta". That's the only quest line I can think of that requires EotN to play. Basically, it takes place a number of years after EotN (which in turn was a number of years after Nightfall, Factions, and Prophecies) and helps to bridge the Krytan story line into GW2. It involved higher level enemies and a storyline with 5 or so missions. It was a nice little jaunt for us back to one of our favorite lands!

As far as the storyline for Prophicies goes, you never return to Kryta once you leave it. However later on down the road, the overarching story of GW does take you back there for the WiK (War In Kryta) after you complete a few things in EotN, and after you've finished Prophecies. Now, all of those quests (minus the precursors) take place in the Prophecies map which is generally the way that things are geographically delineated in the game. So even though it's not part of the Prophecies storyline, it takes place in 'Prophecies'. If that is not what the case is (if you know what the WiK is and these are different) then could you give us a link to the specific quests you're talking about?

And spammable means just that - spammable. When you use some items, like tonics, you can only use one at a time. Or you can only use a few at a time for the sake of effectiveness, like alcohol for instance. When you're going for the title, alcohol only works in 5 minute increments, so you have to drink enough to get drunk for 5 minutes, then wait to drink the next batch. Spammable items, however, you can sit and just pop them off one after another as fast as you can click the mouse button.

As an example, if you got any items from Halloween, then with Ghosts in the Boxes you can just sit there and furiously click on a stack of them and get through all 250 in one huge spam fest and get 250 party points for the title. Absinthe, if you're going for the drunkard title, only works if you use 5 of them at a time, so you can't spam them.

If you have any other questions you can contact me in-game with the name "Countess Reapera" in game. Welcome to the community!

Yeah, the War in Kryta is part of Guild Wars: Beyond and is meant for players that have finished Eye of the North. It's basically a bunch of missions that have you kill off the White Mantle's leadership. Lore-wise it is meant to set the stage for Guild Wars 2 - in this case it is Princess Salma retaking Lion's Arch from the White Mantle.

For the Prophecies storyline though, you're right on track. You do D'Alessio Seaboard and move forward from there. Your next Mission story-wise is Divinity Coast. Prophecies is far from over and I think you'll not need to rush EotN or any of the campaigns.

Apart of 'War in Kryta' content, that is FAR beyond you in the timeline (a few years ahead of your character's moment, so to say), you will wander off from Kryta to Maguuma Jungle, and then come back to Kryta from there.
Fisherman's Haven is one of those outposts you'll discover after returning to Kryta from the Jungle.

If this is the page you are using to see what quests are available http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/List_...phecies_quests then I can understand your confusion. There is no indication of which quests are for now and which are for later.

This page might help as it shows the "skill reward" quests, which are usually the ones that are easy to miss and are all meant to be done prior to level 20. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/List_of_skill_quests (Although when you can change your secondary you can come back and do the ones you couldn't do with your original secondary.)

Thanks for the fast and detailed answers everyone.

Yes, the Wiki page Darcy linked to - List_of_Prophecies_quests is the one I was referring to. I hadn't come across the List of skill quests page previously (or if I did, I didn't realize what it was), so thanks for including that for me to look at.

When I was reading the information on the various quests (specifically ones involving the Princess and the multitude of assassinations, etc.) I was gathering that that part of the story line was "futuristic" from where I am right now in the time line - that's part of why I assumed I must be returning to Kryta at some point down the road.

I'm glad to hear it suggested that it's perfectly ok to hold off on EotN, Factions & Nightfall. I really was hoping to have the chance to appreciate the original game for what it was before adding anything to it. I've had a love affair with games since I was a kid with a C64 and a copy of Zork a friend of my parents gave us... and have fond memories of MUDs... but the cooperative MMORPG structure intimidated the heck out of me. I'm more of a single-player (or LAN with hubby and a few close friends) Diablo afficiando. GW however, has me hooked... and the people I met in pre-Ascalon made me feel very comfortable with being a newbie.

Post has been a little more intimidating - reading the Trades in Lion's Arch is a quick way to feel like you've learned NOTHING so far. LOL But I've been lucky to meet a few others who have been welcoming and willing to answer questions... I just couldn't figure out how to convey my confusion concisely enough for the text limit in a whisper. So I really appreciate the detailed answers here, and the offers of in-world assistance.

I know it won't take long for me to feel like all of this is "old hat," but in the meantime, I'm thankful there's someplace like this to ask questions and learn. I have to kind of resist the urge to want to know it all "RIGHT THIS MINUTE!!!!" and just sit back and enjoy the journey.

You will return to Kryta quite often in the future, as Lion's Arch is the port city for Prophecies and your gateway to the other campaigns. It is also a main site for festival events (Wintersday will take place in December) and for trading (as you noticed). But the storyline doesn't return here until you can access the War in Kryta (WiK) content.

You must finish Prophecies first, complete the last mission, before you can do any of the War in Kryta quests. So ignore all that. Just play through with the quests you can find right now. You are not ready to face groups of very ill-tempered level 24s yet anyways.

Later on you will be capable of doing that. You will also return to all of Prophecies to go through it in hard mode if you wish. You have to complete the game before you do hard mode. And it is well to have a good group of heroes from Nightfall before you do. In hard mode, the henchmen will all be level 20s.

Sometimes Nicholas the Traveler is in Kryta and you will come back to farm some drop for him and get his gifts. That is all in the future too. Guild Wars is vast and you have to take it one bite at a time.

This is, I think, the most difficult lesson for me to learn. I find myself trying to take it all in at once, learn it all right this minute so I don't miss out or mess something up. Good example - I was already well on my way when I learned about the whole "Defender of Ascalon" thing, for reaching lvl20 in pre. So, while I realize that's something I can do later, with another toon - for a few minutes, I felt like "well, there's a chance missed because I didn't know about it."

Believe me, I know how silly that sounds - I KNOW I could do it with another toon. I KNOW I haven't "missed" anything, and in fact would have enjoyed post much less had I come into it with a lvl20 toon.

Yet I still end up wondering, "well what else could I be doing/finding/exploring if I only knew it existed?"

I really need to get over this. LOL

I heard someone say the other day in local chat, "What I love about GW is there is something for everyone." I'm finding out just how true that is... my husband likes exploring... he'll end up being one of those people who maps 100%. But for someone like me - easily distracted by shiny things and more than a touch OCD - all the available content and options can be somewhat over-stimulating, so I guess I'm trying to find my niche, something to focus on.

I'll find it - somewhere in the multitude of opportunities in GW is just my thing.

Thanks for letting me talk this out here... and for the reminder to take small bites.

Just be happy that you didnt start off with the Nightfall game. There is no presearing there and just about the very first town you access is called Kamadan... most players call it Spamadan nowadays due to the fact that it is currently the main trading outpost. If you have Tradechat checked there, then it often happens that messages dissapear within less than half second from the screen and take about 10 seconds to completely dissapear from the displayable messages.

Pretty sure that would have made me apoplectic. LOL At least now I'm a bit more prepared for something like that... but coming into it cold? Yeah, I'd have run screaming... *grins*

I'm new to Guild Wars also, though currently playing the Trilogy and EotN. I wanted to add that I think Nightfall and Factions are set in the same time as post-Searing Prophecies, while Eye of the North is about ten years after the Searing AFAIK.

Spoiler possible for the original poster:

I like how Gwen is the connection between GW and the upcoming GW 2. It's good that there's a line of descent from her to the human character in GW 2.

Actually, this is how things roll out according to the wiki:

1070 AE: Present Day in Pre-searing

1072 AE: Present Day in Prophecies and Factions

1075 AE: Present Day in Nightfall

1078 AE: Present Day in EotN

1079 AE: Present Day during War in Kryta

As has been said, some of those quest have to do with the War In Kryta content that you'll get to much later.

Spammable, in this case, refers to items or skills that can be used quickly and repeatedly. For example, Ghost In A Box's can be used by simply double clicking on them and you don't have to wait for any cool-down or other delay, to use the next, so you can "spam" them by just repeatedly clicking.
On the other hand, Pumpkin cookies can only be "spammed" until your DP is +10% and then you have to do something to get a negative DP before you can use them again. So they're not as spammable.

Same with skills, sort of. Some skills, given enough of an energy pool and a quick recharge, can be used (spammed) repeatedly and often. Some others require a lot of energy and/or have long recharge times and/or other conditions, which makes them much less spammable.

Thanks, Gwendolyn. It's interesting to find out that several years separate the games.
