Skill Update Rotation Idea
jazilla
Hey all. I have a new idea. I was thinking about how new skill updates are few and far between and how it makes the game a little stale. Here is my idea: A Skill update rotation. The Test Krewe can come up with 3-4 different versions of builds based on the meta right now and rotate it monthly or every two months or whatever. That way, instead of working on an update that lasts for 4-6 months, we have a rotation that keeps it less stagnant. They can then tweak minor things that they see in each iteration and make minor changes here and there as the need arises.
Just so there isn't any confusion, I am not talking about 3-4 wholly separate builds that are from scratch and monumentally different. I am just talking about a few skills here and there that are based on our current meta so that we get some little differences in how the PvP and PvE are played. This way, you could have minor elite healing differences, differences in what type of melee professions are used and casting classes etc.
Any thoughts?

We would still have to test each of those before any of them went out for release. Working on several different skill "sets" at once to push out at once is going to take a lot more time than just trying to get the formula right once and then sticking with editing that.

Even if this were implemented it would take them about a decade to get round to it.

So instead of having to wait for one update (which takes ages), we'd have to wait for 4?

no ty, the updates are crap enough alrdy

/notsigned for same reason than Morphy
Anyway , i dont know when people will realize that skill updates aren't doing much in PvP .. maybe too late when areas will be more empty than now ..

sounds great, we'll get this update sometime around February 2039.

I think the OP is suggesting that more updates happen, and because they will be short-term, they don't need to be tested as much.
This is a bad idea. Testing is needed so that bugged or crazily overpowered skills are less likely to show up.
All skills in the game should be balanced against all other skills. If certain sets are popping up, there would be a lot of confusion about how they function, and any hope of homing in on a good balance (where each profession has a handful unique, effective, and fair builds) would be thrown out the window.

I see what people are saying about it getting in a long time from now. Long term though it would make sense because less would need to be done in the future and we would always have a rotation.
Also, I was saying to do it off the meta we have now. No major overhauls or anything.
@Skye Marin: That isn't what I am saying. I am saying they have 3-4 variations of the meta game as it is now and rotate between those builds from month to month or every few months.
EDIT** I appreciate the opinions without getting called names though. It's refreshing

HELL no
worst. idea. ever.
how about every game you play, skills and stuff spontaneously change with no warning?
The purpose is to achieve balance, not change for the sake of change.
Anyways, as a member of the Test Krewe, I will assure you that this will never happen.

I dont know... at the rate we are getting skill updates (disclaimer: fault lies in no part with the TK or the live crew, fault lies with anet who refuses to devote even a few more resources to GW1), change for the sake of change would be refreshing.

I started playing League of Legends recently, and my favorite character is Akali. Want to know why? Because as an assassin, she CAN shadow-step and blow up a single target while damaging enemies around her, and she even has a Shadow Form-like skill that works like a ward spell. She's amazing, and yet still a glass cannon. It's what makes her fun. LoL > GW1 imho because the game's fun, and many people play it. Also, no Dishonor or /report System that players can abuse.
Black Metal
go play League of Legends then.
I never stated that every skill is perfectly balanced. I stated that the goal of changing skills is to balance them, not merely to make them different than they were before.

Orly? So Smiter's Boon is what you all would call balance? Assassins being degraded warriors is balance to you? Last time I checked assassins are supposed to be able to shadow-step and deal some serious damage. B.Surge, E.Surge, and many other OP'd roll-face skills and builds out there and you want to talk about balance?! As a member of the GW1 Community, I will assure you that based on these facts, balance will never happen. Ya'll might as well just give up already.

Now , when i see how most players are doing on Hall map or shrines for example , woah ...I'm mystified at how some people cannot just look a map or a timer . Except in 1-2 bala and maybe 1 hex guild ( talking about tactics , not build ) , every HA player has no tactic and cannot play with no ts/vent ( harsh to say that for some bbwayers..)
